Understanding of the color in composite resin (복합레진의 색에 대한 이해)

  • In clinic, esthetic restoration of a defective natural tooth with composite resin is challenging procedure and needs complete understanding of the color of tooth itself and materials used. The optical characteristics of the composites are different because the chemical compositions and microstructures are not same. This review provided basic knowledge of the color and the color measurement devices, and analyze the color of the natural tooth. Further, the accuracy of the shade tab, color of the composite resins before and after curing, effect of the water, food and bleaching agent, and translucency, opalescence, and fluorescence effects were evaluated.

EFFECT OF LIGHT SOURCE AND SHADE ON DEPTH OF CURE OF COMPOSITES (중합광원과 레진 색상이 복합레진의 중합깊이에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose of this research is estimating polymerization depth of different source of light. XL 3000 for halo-gen light, Apollo 95E for plasma arc light and Easy cure for LED light source were used in this study. Different shade (B1 & A3) resin composites (Esthet-X, Dentsply, U.S.A.) were used to measure depth of cure. 1, 2, and 3 mm thick samples were light cured for three seconds, six seconds or 10 seconds with Apollo 95E and they were light cured with XL-3000 and Easy cure for 10 seconds, 20 seconds, or 40 seconds. Vicker's hardness test carried out after store samples for 24 hours in distilled water. Results were as following. 1. Curing time increases from al1 source of lights, oui$.$ing depth increased(p<0.05). 2. Depth (that except 1mm group and 2mm group which lighten to halogen source of light) deepens in all groups, Vickers hardness decreased(p<0.05). 3. Vicker's hardness of A3 shade composite was lower in all depths more than B1 shade composites in group that do polymerization for 10 seconds and 20 seconds using halogen source of light(p<0.05), but group that do polymerization lot 40 seconds did not show difference(p>0.05). 4. Groups that do polymerization using Plasma arc and LED source of light did not show Vicker's hardness difference according to color at surface and 1mm depth(p>0.05), but showed difference according to color at 2mm and 3mm depth(p<0.05). The results showed that Apollo 95E need more polymerization times than manufacturer's recommendation (3 seconds), and Easy cure need polymerization time of XL-3000 at least.

Effect of Herbicide 'Kerb' on Growth of Perennial Ryegrass (Lolium perenne L. 'Accent') and Zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonca 'Zenith') under Shading Treatments (차광조절하에서 제초제 Kerb가 퍼레니얼 라이그래스와 한국잔디의 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to investigate an artificially transition method of perennial ryegrass(Lolium perenne L. 'Accent') overseeded on zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonca Zenith') with Kerb (3,5-jichloro-N (1,1-dimethyl-2-propynyl). We observed turfgrass growth and physiological responses of the two turfgrasses under the shading treatments. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse during April- August. Shading was generally using a black shade net product whose the shade level was done into 0, 35 and 75%, actual light intensities were 589, 378 and $135\;{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s$ PAR, respectively. The four levels of Kerb treatment were 0, 0.1 0.2, and $0.4\;g{\cdot}m^{-2}$. As shading was getting increased, growth of perennial ryegrass was increased slowly, but zoysiagrass was reduced and almost all of experiments showed significant differences statistically. Perennial ryegrass exhibited inclination that growth was reduced in more than Kerb $0.4\;g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ by shades. On the other hand, it was shown that the growth of zoysigrass was reduced by shades largely and it was not effected by Kerb. Through this study, it was determined that Kerb is effective for elimination of overseeded perennial ryegrass on zoysiagrass. Moreover, when excluding perennial ryegrass under the condition like shade, it is desirable for treating high concentration more than the basic processing amount.

A Study on the Effect of Air Temperature and Ground Temperature Mitigation from Several Arrangements of Urban Green (도시녹지의 기온 및 지온 완화효과에 관한 연구)

  • To study the temperature mitigation effects from urban green, several arrangements of green spaces were selected and air/ground temperatures were measured in Chongju city area. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; 1. It was found that the natural ground materials effect more affirmatively on the air and ground temperature than artificial ones do. The best results were recorded from the grass surface presenting highest mitigation effect and lowest daily temperature deviation. 2. Temperature mitigation effects of Tree-Shade on ground are different from season, ground material, and crown-size. Them most effects were found in interlocking block, the least in grass surface among recorded 2 seasons and 3 materials. In case of air temperature, the effects were more or less decreased in most cases. 3. From the survey, it was confirmed that the smaller urban greens can do its role of temperature mitigation as larger ones does. In case of this study, the effect was recorded about 2.3$^{\circ}C$.

  • Objectives: This clinical study evaluated the effect of light activation on the whitening efficacy and safety of in-office bleaching system containing 15% hydrogen peroxide gel. Materials and Methods: Thirty-three volunteers were randomly treated with (n = 17, experimental group) or without light activation (n = 16, control group), using Zoom2 white gel (15% $H_2O_2$, Discus Dental) for a total treatment time of 45 min. Visual and instrumental color measurements were obtained using Vitapan Classical shade guide and Shadepilot (DeguDent) at screening test, after bleaching, and 1 month and 3 month after bleaching. Data were analyzed using t-test, repeated measure ANOVA, and chi-squared test. Results: Zoom2 white gel produced significant shade changes in both experimental and control group when pre-treatment shade was compared with that after bleaching. However, shade difference between two groups was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Tooth shade relapse was not detected at 3 months after bleaching. The incidence of transient tooth sensitivity was 39.4%, with being no differences between two groups. Conclusions: The application of light activation with Zoom2 white gel system neither achieved additional whitening effects nor showed more detrimental influences.

Effect of Shading Period on Contants of Inorganic Components, Free Amino Acids and Fatty Acids in Thea Sinensis L. (차광기간(遮光期間)이 다엽(茶葉)의 무기성분(無機成分), 아미노산(酸), 지방산(脂肪酸) 함양(含量)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • The effect of shading on mineral elements, free amino acids, and fatty acids content of tea shoot was examined under different shading periods. The results are summarized as follows. The con­tent of $NH_4^+$, $K^+$. $Mg^{++}$, $PO_4^{--}, was increased, but that of $Na^+$, $Ca^{++}$, $F^-$, $Cl^-$, $No_3^-$, $So_4^{--}$ was de­creased with the passage of shade treatment periods. The content of Total- Nitrogen of tea shoot was the highest in the 55% 10days+95% 5days shading as 6.07%. The content to Total Free Amino Acid was hagher ranged from 20mg/100g to 80mg/100g in shading treatment compered with the un shading treat­ment. The content of Theanine was the highest in 55% 10days+95% 5days shading as 1834mg/100g,while that of unshading was the lowest as 1247mg/100g. The content of Theanine was decreased with the passage of shading periods. The content of Fatty Acid was the highest in the 55% 15days+95% 15days shading as 3164mg/100g, while the unshading treatment had the lowest in the 55% 5days+95% 5days as 2435mg/100g.

Effect of Drying and Extraction Methods on Antioxidant Activity of Gnaphalium affine D. DON (건조 및 추출 방법을 달리한 떡쑥(Gnaphalium affine D. DON)의 항산화 효과에 대한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of drying and extraction methods on antioxidant activity and total phenol content of Gnaphalium affine D. DON (GA). Hot-air, shade-drying, and freeze-drying were used for drying, after which magnetic stirring and ultrasonification were applied. Extracting solvents were water, 80% ethanol, and 80% methanol. Total phenol content was highest in 80% ethanol extract of freeze-dried and stirred GA. Total flavonoid content was highest in 80% methanol extract of freeze-dried and stirred GA. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity was higher in 80% methanol and 80% ethanol extracts than in water extract. 2,2-Azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical scavenging activity was highest in 80% ethanol extract of shade-dried and ultrasonicated GA. Reducing power was generally higher in 80% methanol extract than in 80% ethanol and water extracts of GA. Total phenol and total flavonoid contents were highly correlated with DPPH radical scavenging activity and reducing power, respectively. This result implies that the antioxidant activity of GA can be attributed to phenol compounds such as flavonoids. Conclusively, phenol compounds such as flavonoids are responsible for the antioxidant activity of GA, and there was no significant effect of drying and stirring conditions on antioxidant activity of 80% ethanol. Meanwhile, DPPH radical scavenging activity of water extract and reducing power of 80% methanol extract were higher in hot-air and shade-dried GAs than in freeze-dried GA.
