An Analysis about Inundation and Carrying Capacity of Drain Pipes in Urban Area (도시유역의 우수관거 통수능 및 침수특성 분석)

  • The localized rainfall happens frequently in urban areas recently and then, he drain pipes of urban areas do not drain well when the localized rainfalls happen. Specially, the inundation by the backwater on the lowland should be solved certainly in urban planning and sewer rehabilitation. In this study, it was examined whether the carrying capacities of the drain pipe are satisfied about a current design standard of the rainfall considering the outflows of the urban areas by the rainfall analysis. Also, the backwater in the drain pipe and the inundation on the lowland were analyzed considering the water level of the discharged river and the propriety of the design standard was examined by the analysis about the rainfall frequency. Also, the results offered the basic data to decide whether the detention reservoir should be established and the scale of the pump station.

The Study on the Analysis of Stormwater Runoff Using RMS (Remote Monitoring System) (원격수위계측기를 이용한 강우유출 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the quantitative change of water resources using RMS(Remote Monitoring System) which takes real time data with high reliability. Also, the characteristic of stormwater runoff was understood by the application of the above system for three streams (Jiam, Yulmun, and Gongji stream) in Chuncheon City. The detailed results of these studies are as follows; RMS(Remote Monitoring System) was constructed by the combination of the automatic water-level meter, which measures water-level of streams at all times, and the wireless communication system sending real-time data from the meter. This system is used to evaluate the stormwater runoff in watersheds and the quantitative changes of streams. It is possible to overcome the limit of field investigations needed, which takes a lot of manpower and time, and it is very efficient to provide the reliable flowrate data. Also, it can be applied to the disaster prevention system for flood because the change of flowrate in stream is monitored at real-time. For 3 streams with different watershed characteristics, correlation equations induced from the relation analysis results. In terms of the relation between water-level and flowrate, flowrate was increased rapidly as the water-level rises in case of small watershed and steep slope. The application results of the proposed system for 3 streams (Jiam, Yulmun, Gongji) in Chuncheon city are as follows; The remote monitoring system was very useful for acquisition of the flow rate in stream that are basic data to understand pollutants runoff in watershed. In case of no-rainy day, the runoff ratio for pollutant loading rate was the highest level in Yulmun stream(BOD:2.3%, TN:20.2%, TP:1.2%). So, it shows the management of pollution source is needed such as rehabilitation of sewer line. Runoff ratio of total phosphorus by rainfall in Gongji watershed was increased about 19 times than no-rainy day, which is estimated as the influence of sewer overflow.

Determination of operating offline detention reservoir considering system resilience (시스템 탄력성을 고려한 빗물저류조 운영수위 결정)

  • Recently, the number of occurrences of inundation and the severity of flood damage has increased rapidly as the frequency of localized heavy rainfall and the ratio of impervious area increased in urban areas. Most local governments focus on employing structural measures (e.g., the construction of detention reservoirs/pump stations, rehabilitation of drainage and sewer pipes) to prevent urban inundation. On the other hand, the effectiveness of implementing such structural measures is being dimished because there are already many inundation prevention facilities. The limitation of structural measures can be overcoming by employing non-structure measures, such as flood alerts and the operation of drainage facilities. This study suggests the pump operation rule (i.e., suggesting pump stop level) for a new detention reservoir operating method, which triggers the operation of a pump based on the water level at the monitoring node in urban drainage system. In the new reservoir operation, a total of 48 rainfall events are generated by the Huff distribution for determining the proper pump stop level. First, the generated rainfall events are distributed as frequencies, quartiles, and durations. The averaged system resilience value was determined to range from 1.2 m to 1.5 m is based on the rainfall-runoff simulation with rainfall generated by the Huff distribution. In this range, 1.2 m was identified considering the safety factor of 1.25 by the Standard on sewer facilities in 2011.

Development of an Optimal Trajectory Planning Algorithm for Automated Pavement Crack Sealer (도로면 크랙실링 자동화 장비의 최적 경로계획 알고리즘 개발)

  • During the last two decades, several tele-operated and machine-vision-assisted systems have been developed in construction and maintenance area such as pavement crack sealing, sewer pipe rehabilitation, and excavation. In developing such tele-operated and machine-vision-assisted systems, trajectory plans are very important tasks for optimal motions of robots whether their environments are structured or unstructured. This paper presents an optimal trajectory planning algorithm used for a machine-vision-assisted automatic pavement crack sealing system. In this paper, the performance of the proposed optimal trajectory planning algorithm is compared with the greedy trajectory plans which are used in previously developed pavement crack sealing systems. The comparison is based on computational cost versus overall gains in crack sealing efficiency. Finally, it is concluded that the proposed algorithm plays an important role in productivity improvement of the automatic pavement crack sealing system developed.
