A Study on Cost-effective Treatment of Wastewater and Odor Reduction for Southeast Asian Market Entry

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to apply a cost effective ultrasonic odor reduction method that generated micro-bubbles using ejector to the Southeast Asian wastewater market. Research design, data, and methodology - A leather maker located in Ansan-city, Gyunggi-do, South Korea was sampled from the collection tank to select experimental materials. Experimental setup consisted of circulating water tank-air ejector-ultrasonic device, and circulating wastewater. Sample analysis was performed by CODcr, T-N, T-P, and turbidity by the National Environmental Science Institute. Results - Experimental results show that it is most effective in removing odors when the frequency range of ultrasonic wave is 60~80 Khz and the output is 200 W. It showed that the concentration of complex odor dropped from a maximum of 14,422 times to a minimum of 120 times. Also, analysis of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide in specific odor substances has shown that they were reduced from 1.5 ppm to 0.4 ppm and from 0.6 ppm to 0.1 ppm, respectively. Conclusions - It is possible to shorten more than 12 hours in the treatment of micro-organisms. It can be seen that the processing time of odor after ultrasonic treatment in the pre-treatment facility is reduced by 25% when compared to the resultant micro-organisms after the chemical treatment, that is, the time of the bio-treatment of micro-organisms. Based on the results, it was confirmed that the pre-treatment method using the ultrasonic and the air ejector device of the experiment shows the effect of reducing the water pollutants and odor more effectively in a relatively short time than the conventional advanced oxidation method.

  • This paper presents a low cost and flexible IoT enabled smart LED controller using Arduino that is used for emergency exit signs. The Internet of Things (IoT) is become a global network that put together physical objects using network communications for the purpose of inter-communication of devices, access information on internet, interaction with users as well as permanent connected environment. A crucial point in this paper, is underlined on the potential key points of applying the Arduino platform as low cost, easy to use microcontroller with combination of various sensors applied in IoT technology to facilitate and establishment of intelligent products. To demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the system, devices such as LED strip, combination of various sensors, Arduino, power plug and ZigBee module have been integrated to setup smart emergency exit sign system. The general concept of the proposed system design discussed in this paper is all about the combination of various sensor such as smoke detector sensor, humidity, temperature sensor, glass break sensors as well as camera sensor that are connected to the main controller (Arduino) for the purpose of communicating with LED exit signs displayer and dedicated PC monitors from integrated system monitoring (controller room) through gateway devices using Zig bee module. A critical appraisal of the approach in the area concludes the paper.

Optimal Charging and Discharging for Multiple PHEVs with Demand Side Management in Vehicle-to-Building

  • Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) will be widely used in future transportation systems to reduce oil fuel consumption. Therefore, the electrical energy demand will be increased due to the charging of a large number of vehicles. Without intelligent control strategies, the charging process can easily overload the electricity grid at peak hours. In this paper, we consider a smart charging and discharging process for multiple PHEVs in a building's garage to optimize the energy consumption profile of the building. We formulate a centralized optimization problem in which the building controller or planner aims to minimize the square Euclidean distance between the instantaneous energy demand and the average demand of the building by controlling the charging and discharging schedules of PHEVs (or 'users'). The PHEVs' batteries will be charged during low-demand periods and discharged during high-demand periods in order to reduce the peak load of the building. In a decentralized system, we design an energy cost-sharing model and apply a non-cooperative approach to formulate an energy charging and discharging scheduling game, in which the players are the users, their strategies are the battery charging and discharging schedules, and the utility function of each user is defined as the negative total energy payment to the building. Based on the game theory setup, we also propose a distributed algorithm in which each PHEV independently selects its best strategy to maximize the utility function. The PHEVs update the building planner with their energy charging and discharging schedules. We also show that the PHEV owners will have an incentive to participate in the energy charging and discharging game. Simulation results verify that the proposed distributed algorithm will minimize the peak load and the total energy cost simultaneously.

An original device for train bogie energy harvesting: a real application scenario

  • Today, as railways increase their capacity and speeds, it is more important than ever to be completely aware of the state of vehicles fleet's condition to ensure the highest quality and safety standards, as well as being able to maintain the costs as low as possible. Operation of a modern, dynamic and efficient railway demands a real time, accurate and reliable evaluation of the infrastructure assets, including signal networks and diagnostic systems able to acquire functional parameters. In the conventional system, measurement data are reliably collected using coaxial wires for communication between sensors and the repository. As sensors grow in size, the cost of the monitoring system can grow. Recently, auto-powered wireless sensor has been considered as an alternative tool for economical and accurate realization of structural health monitoring system, being provided by the following essential features: on-board micro-processor, sensing capability, wireless communication, auto-powered battery, and low cost. In this work, an original harvester device is designed to supply wireless sensor system battery using train bogie energy. Piezoelectric materials have in here considered due to their established ability to directly convert applied strain energy into usable electric energy and their relatively simple modelling into an integrated system. The mechanical and electrical properties of the system are studied according to the project specifications. The numerical formulation is implemented with in-house code using commercial software tool and then experimentally validated through a proof of concept setup using an excitation signal by a real application scenario.

연구연속제조업 일정계획 문제에서 기계고장을 고려한 통계적 시뮬레이션 Dispatching 방법 연구 (A dispatching policy for stochastic scheduling simulation considering machine breakdowns)

  • 본 논문에서는 연속제조 생산방식을 취하는 제조업에서 기계고장이 발생하여 생산 일정이 실시간으로 변경되어 야 하는 환경에서도 적용 가능한 dispatching 방법을 개발한다. 개발된 dispatching 방법은 생산지연으로 인한 재료의 재가열 비용과 설치비용, 잔여납기일을 고려하여 지표를 개발하고, 지표의 값이 가장 작은 재료에 우선순위를 부여하여 기계에 할당하는 방식을 취하고 있다. 개발된 dispatching방법의 우수성 입증하기 위해 SPT와 선입선출 방법을 비교대상으로 선출하고, 이들 방법을 통계적 시뮬레이션을 통해 도출된 손실비용을 비교분석한다. 통계적으로 유효성을 입증하기 위해 각 방법별로 200개의 데이터와 20번의 반복을 통해 실험을 실시하며, 실험결과 본 연구에서 제시한 방법이 비교대상 방법에 비해 유효한 손실비용의 감소효과를 보였다. 또한 본 논문에서 개발된 통계적 시뮬레이터는 대기시간에 발생 가능한 비용을 추가하거나 변경이 용이하여 불확실성을 고려한 생산일정계획부문에 유용하게 사용될 것으로 기대한다.

  • 선박 내 안전과 정보전달 시스템 구축에 대한 수요가 증대함에 따라 선내 신호전달 특성에 대한 측정이 새로운 사안으로 등장하고 있다. 선박 내에 기 구축된 유선망을 활용함과 동시에 부가적인 선내 안전서비스에 필요한 망의 구성을 위해서 구조물의 일부를 불가피하게 변경하는 등의 비용증가를 최소화하여 무선 감지기 망을 구축함으로써 비용과 구축시간을 단축하기 위한 향상된 방안들이 필요하다. 이 논문에서는 선박 내 무선신호전달 특성을 측정하고 분석하는데 적합한 서명 수열-세방향 패킷 방식 기반 선내 전파전달측정 시스템을 설계하고 기존의 양방향 시스템에 대한 특성을 살펴본다. 그리고, 모의 실험을 통해 동작특성을 검증한 후, 구성된 시스템을 기반으로 선박 내 환경과 유사한 상황에서 측정한 데이터를 분석한다. 이와 같이 새로운 측정 시스템과 알고리즘을 적용함으로써 신뢰성 있고 비용효율적인 선박 내 무선 망을 구성하고 안정성 있는 망의 구성과 유지를 할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • 최근 들어 선박 내 안전과 정보전달 시스템 구축에 대한 수요가 증대하고 있다. 선박 내에 기 구축된 유선망을 활용하는 방안이 있으나 이는 새로운 배선을 해야 하고 구조물의 일부를 불가피하게 변형해야 하고 이에 따른 구축시간의 증가와 비용증가가 크므로 이에 따른 무선 감지기 망을 구축함으로써 비용과 구축시간을 단축할 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 선박 내 무선신호전달 특성을 측정하고 분석하는데 적합한 서명 수열-양방향 패킷 방식 기반 선내 전파전달측정 시스템을 설계하고 모의 실험을 통해 검증한 뒤, 구성된 시스템을 기반으로 측정한 데이터를 분석한다. 이와 같은 선내 채널 측정시스템을 활용함으로써 신뢰성 있고 비용효율적인 선박 내 무선 망을 구성할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

개인휴대 통신망에서 공간적 국부성을 이용한 위치추적 방법 (A Location Tracking Strategy with Spatial Locality in Personal Communication Networks)

  • 무선단말기 사이의 호 연결을 위하여 유휴상태에 있는 무선단말기의 위치정보를 관리하는 위치추적방법이 사용된다. 본 논문에서는 움직임에 기반한 위치추적방법의 성능을 더욱 향상시키기 위하여 공간적 국부성을 이용한 위치추적방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법은 무선단말기의 실제 이동경로에서 공간적 국부성을 제거하여 가상 이동경로를 생성한 후 이를 이용하여 위치 갱신함으로써 불필요한 위치갱신을 줄일 수 있게 한다. 컴퓨터 모의실험을 통하여 본 논문에서 제안한 방법이 위치추적경비를 많이 줄일 수 있음을 보여준다.

캔 산업의 전과정평가를 통한 청정생산 적용에 관한 연구 (Study on the Application of Cleaner Production using Life Cycle Assessment in the Can Industry)

  • 포장 산업의 발전과 재활용 활성화로 인해 캔 산업은 급속히 성장하였으나 공급과잉에 의해 수익성은 낮아졌다. 그러므로 캔 산업이 경쟁력을 확보하기 위해서는 제조공정의 개선을 통해 공정을 최적화하고 또한 환경부담을 감소시키는 것이 필수적이라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 전과정평가를 이용하여 알루미늄 캔 제조공정의 주요이슈를 규명하였다. 그 결과 불량캔을 저감하고 타유를 제거하는 것이 주요이슈로 규명되었다. 도출된 문제점의 개선안으로 정수시설 도입과 살균타유분리시스템 설치, 세척노즐 변경, 초순수 가온시스템 설비를 도입하였다. 개선결과 6.4개월만에 투자비를 회수하며 연간 약 3억원을 절감할 수 있을 것으로 조사되었다.

다중곡률형상의 판재성형을 위한 가변롤성형 기술 (Flexible Roll Forming Technology for Multi-Curved Sheet Metal Forming)

  • The multi-point forming (MPF) process for three-dimensional curved sheet metal has been developed as an alternative to the conventional die forming process since MPF allows the manufacturing of various shapes using one die set and reduce the cost of production. However, the MPF process cannot provide high quality products yet due to defects occurring in the sheet such as dimples and wrinkles. It can also lead to economic loss because of long tool setup time and additional machining required outside of the sheet formed area. In this study, a new sheet metal forming method, called flexible roll forming (FRF), is proposed to solve the problems of existing processes for three-dimensional curved sheet metal. This progressive process utilizes adjusting rods, as well as upper and lower flexible rollers as forming tools. In contrast with the existing processes, FRF can reduce the additional production costs because of the possible blank size for the part longitudinal direction, which is unrestricted. In this research, methods and procedures of the flexible roll forming technology are described. Numerical forming simulations of representative three-dimensional curved sheet products are also carried out to demonstrate the feasibility of this technology.
