For an efficient software download in cellular CDMA systems, session admission control based on area (SACA) is presented. In the SACA scheme, the base station only allows mobile terminal to start session when the mobile locates near the base station of a cell. A mobile that is located near cell center can request software download session, but the mobile that is far away from the center can request session only after arriving near the cell center. Session duration time follows exponential and Pareto distribution. Performance is analyzed in terms of handoff rate, mean channel holding time, session blocking probability and handoff forced termination probability. As analysis results, handoff rate between cells in the proposed scheme is reduced to 30 ~ 250 % compared to conventional scheme, according to traffic characteristics such as terminal speed, session duration time and the size of the allowable zone area in a cell for the start of the session. And new session blocking probability slightly decreases to 5 ~ 20 %, but handoff session forced termination probability drastically decreases to 35 ~ 220 %.
NGN is a packet-based converged network to support session and non-session based services in QoS-enabled broadband transport technologies. Resource and admission control functions(RACF) of NGN have been considering COPS and SNMP as resource management protocols to collect network topology and resource status information of transport network. This paper defines requirements of resource management in NGN transport network, and proposes protocol independent information model to keep consistency of data models of each resource management protocol. Based on this information model described with UML class diagram, we designed and implemented NGN resource management system on Web Services.
Our paper deals with a method for supporting multiple call/sessions in a mobile terminal. The different identifier for each protocol layer is assigned to each session when a mobile terminal sets SDP for multimedia services. In particular, QoS based tasks are used for managing the traffics in radio interface. Also, queuing, admission control, load control, resource allocation and scheduling are done based on the priority of sessions. The various multimedia services which is different in the requirement of resource allocation are able to be serviced simultaneously because a mobile terminal can provide the various services based on this scheme.
In broadband convergence network(BcN), heterogeneous broadband wired & wireless subnetworks and various terminal equipments will be interconnected. In order to provide end-to-end realtime multimedia services on such heterogeneous networking environment, as a result, two major problems should be resolved: i) Multimedia session establishment & negotiation that adjusts the differences in the capability of multimedia data processing at the end terminal nodes, ii) quality of service(QoS)-guaranteed connection establishment or resource reservation with connection admission control(CAC) in each heterogeneous subnetworks along the path. The session layer signaling(e.g., SIP/SDP) should be extended for QoS negotiation, and must be tightly cooperating with network layer signaling or resource reservation with CAC function. In this paper we propose a session and connection management architecture for the QoS-guaranteed realtime multimedia service provisioning on BcN, with Q-SIP/SDP, resource reservation protocol with traffic engineering extension, and CAC functions. The detailed interaction scenario and related algorithms for QoS-guaranteed realtime multimedia session, resource reservation and connection establishment are explained and analyzed. From the experimental implementation of the proposed scheme on a small scale BcN testbed, we verified that the proposed architecture is applicable for the realtime multimedia service provisioning. We analyze the network performance and QoS parameters in detail.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an individualized cardiac health education on self-care behavior and serum cholesterol levels patients with coronary artery disease. Methods: Twenty-two patients in the intervention group and 22 in the control group were assigned randomly in this study. The intervention group received an individualized cardiac health education program which consisted of four different sessions for a total of four sessions. Specifically, two sessions occurred during the patients' hospitalization with a third session at the time of discharge with a fourth session scheduled via telephone one week post discharge. Data were collected through a questionnaire for self-care behavior and a blood test for total cholesterol at the time of admission and the two weeks after discharge. The questionnaire for self-care behavior was a standardized instrument and serum cholesterol was measured by Accutrend GC (Roche, Germany). Results: Self-care behavior scores included diet, medication, exercise, risk factor, blood pressure measurement, and visits to hospital were significantly more in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: The above findings indicate that the individualized cardiac health education was effective in increasing of self-care behavior.
In order to meet the different requirements of a wide variety of user applications, the network should support the different quality of service requirements for different applications. While 3GPP has specified a number of QoS profiles for a 3G-GPRS (or UMTS), the implementation of QoS management is an issue. This paper presents the QoS management functions in the 3G-GPRS. The QoS management involves service manager, translation function, admission/capability control, and subscription control of users, and mapping function, classification function, resource manager, and traffic conditioner of user traffic. It also describes the QoS Management procedure during the session management when setting up the bearers.

In this paper, we design and implement a QoS control function in the SIP-based VoIP system. As a network infrastructure for VoIP service, we select the Intserv over Diffserv architecture where the network resources are managed by a call admission control mechanism. The SIP protocol extended to support QoS signaling procedure is modulized to operate independently with the infrastructure. The performance of the QoS-enabled VoIP system is verified by experiments.

In Hierarchical Mobile Ipv6 (HMIPv6) networks, the mobility anchor point (MAP) handles binding update (BU) procedures locally to reduce signaling overhead for mobility. However, as the number of mobile nodes (MNs) handled by the MAP increases, the MAP suffers from the overhead not only to handle signaling traffic but also to Process data tunneling traffic. Therefore, it is important to control the number of MNs serviced by the MAP, in order to mitigate the burden of the MAP. We propose an adaptive load control scheme, which consists of two sub-algorithms: threshold-based admission control algorithm and session-to-mobility ratio (SMR) based replacement algorithm. When the number of MNs at a MAP reaches to the full capacity, the MAP replaces an existing MN at the MAP, whose SMR is high, with an MN that just requests binding update. The replaced MN is redirected to its home agent. We analyze the proposed load control scheme using the .Markov chain model in terms of the new MN and the ongoing MN blocking probabilities. Numerical results indicate that the above probabilities are lowered significantly compared to the threshold-based admission control alone.
In this paper, we propose a method for supporting VCR operations in a patching based multicast VOD system. Random access, pause and resume operations are supported in our system, and the channel and session scheduling algorithms for the VCR operations are proposed. When it is necessary to join a sharable multicast channel in the admission control for the VCR operations, the patching technique, which shares an on-going regular channel and allocates a new patching channel for the missing data, is used. Therefore, unlike the previous approach that allocates an excessive number of I-channels, service latency is minimized and channel usage is optimized in our system. Moreover buffered data. which is saved in disk during patching, is reused to prevent unnecessary patching channel allocation. For this. the patching management information is extended and a buffed data management scheme is proposed. In our system, the First-Come-First-Served scheduling is used to inform clients the service latency for the VCR operations immediately.

We propose a scheduling algorithm, Bandwidth Allocation Scheme (BAS), that guarantees bounded delay in a switching node. It is based on the notion of the GPS (Generalized Processor Sharing) mechanism, which has clarified the concept of fair queueing with a fluid-flow hypothesis of traffic modeling. The main objective of this paper is to determine the session-level weights that define the GPS sewer. The way of introducing and derivation of the so-called system equation' implies the approach we take. With multiple classes of traffic, we define a set of service curves:one for each class. Constrained to the required profiles of individual service curves for delay satisfaction, the sets of weights are determined as a function of both the delay requirements and the traffic parameters. The schedulability test conditions, which are necessary to implement the call admission control, are also derived to ensure the proposed bandwidth allocation scheme' be able to support delay guarantees for all accepted classes of traffic. It is noticeable that the values of weights are tunable rather than fixed in accordance with the varying system status. This feature of adaptability is beneficial towards the enhanced efficiency of bandwidth sharing.
