  • This paper is concerned with the development of optimal algorithms for multi-stage flowshop scheduling problems with sequence dependent setup times. In the previous researches the setup time of a job is considered to be able to begin at the earliest opportunity given a particular sequence at the start of operations. In this paper the setup time of a job is considered to be able to begin only at the completion of that job on the previous machine to reflect the effects of the setup time to the performance measure of sequence dependent setup time flowshop scheduling. The results of the study consist of two areas; first, a general integer programming(IP) model is formulated and a nixed integer linear programming(MILP) model is also formulated by introducing a new binary variable. Second a depth-first branch and bound algorithm is developed. To reduce the computational burdens we use the best heuristic schedule developed by Choi(1989) as the first trial. The experiments for developed algorithm are designed for a 4$\times$3$\times$3 factorial design with 360 observations. The experimental factors are PS(ratio of processing time to setup time), M(number of machines), N(number of jobs).

  • An integrated framework of modeling the human operator cognitive behavior during nuclear power plant accident scenarios is presented. It incorporates both plant and operator models. The basic structure of the operator model is similar to that of existing cognitive models, however, this model differs from those existing ones largely in too aspects. First, using frame and membership function, the pattern matching behavior, which is identified as the dominant cognitive process of operators responding to an accident sequence, is explicitly implemented in this model. Second, the non-task-related human cognitive activities like effect of stress and cognitive biases such as confirmation bias and availability bias, are also considered. A computer code, OPEC is assembled to simulate this framework and is actually applied to an SGTR sequence, and the resultant simulated behaviors of operator are obtained.

  • This study was designed to determine what components of spoken language have been relatively neglected in the teaching of listening comprehension in Korea and to suggest a model of listening process. Two types of tests were undertaken using spoken and written forms of English with secondary school teachers of English and college students. Findings: Hearing power has been generally neglected in the teaching of listening comprehension. Hearing power which can be thought as an active process is defined as an ability to transfer the sequence of discrete phonetic segments without word boundary into the sequence of words in phonemic representations by using both nonlinguistic factors and linguistic factors including perception rules based on phonetics and phonology. Vocabularies, hearing-speaking power, syntactic structures and idiomatic expressions are to be taught for spoken English. A model of listening process was suggested and discussed.

  • Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) is the method for joining two overlapped base materials when high pressure and current is applied from electrodes. Due to the safety problem such high pressure and voltage, automation should be early adopted. In this paper, the spot welding is developed as a computational model of wheel house from GM Korea and the welding condition such as weld sequence is considered. The computational analysis is preceded as a static and elasto-plastic procedure and used thermal expansion coefficient represents a dependency of spot volume between two panels. In case of welding sequence, the efficiency which depends on the distance between current spot point and the other is calculated in several cases.

  • The cDNA of a firefly luciferase from lantern mRNA of Lampyroidea maculata has been cloned, sequenced and functionally expressed. The cDNA has an open reading frame of 1647 bp and codes for a 548-residue-long polypeptide. Noteworthy, sequence comparison as well as homology modeling showed the highest degree of similarity with H. unmunsana and L. mingrelica luciferases, suggesting a close phylogenetic relationship despite the geographical distance separation. The deduced amino acid sequence of the luciferase gene of firefly L. maculata showed 93% identity to H. unmunsana. Superposition of the three-dimensional model of L. maculata luciferase (generated by homology modeling) and three dimensional structure of Photinus pyralis luciferase revealed that the spatial arrangements of Luciferin and ATP-binding residues are very similar. Putative signature of AMP-binding domain among the various firefly species and Lampyroidea maculata was compared and a striking similarity was found. Different motifs and sites have been identified in Lampyroidea maculata by sequence analysis. Expression and purification of luciferase from Lampyroidea maculata was carried out using Ni-NTA Sepharose. Bioluminescence emission spectrum was similar to Photinus pyralis luciferase.

  • In this paper behavior of U-Channel Bridge (UCB) and the slab design considering construction sequence was studied. The segments of UCB are produced in the factory and transported to the site by trailers, and the segments are fabricated in the construction field. In this sequence the supporting conditions are changed. Four steps that were the segment precasting step, the segment carrying step, the segment placed on the erection beam step, and the completion step were chosen by supporting condition. In each step model using the frame and plate elements was proposed and structural analysis was performed. Four construction steps were to be considered in the process of slab analysis. The design method of slab was proposed considering construction sequence.

  • This paper focuses on disassembly sequencing, which is the problem of determining the optimum disassembly level and the corresponding disassembly sequence for a product at its end-of-life with the objective of maximizing the overall profit. In particular, sequence-dependent operation times, which frequently occur in practice due to tool-changeover, part reorientation, etc, are considered in the parallel disassembly environment. To represent the problem, a modified directed graph of assembly states is suggested as an extension of the existing extended process graph. Based on the directed graph, the problem is transformed into the shortest path problem and formulated as a linear programming model that can be solved straightforwardly with standard techniques. A case study on a photocopier was done and the results are reported.

  • Sequence homology analysis in the substances in the phenomenon of life is to create database by sorting and indexing and to demonstrate the usefulness of informatics. In this paper, Markov models are used in GenScan program to convert the pattern of complex eukaryotic protein sequences. It becomes impossible to navigate the minimum distance, complexity increases exponentially as the exact calculation. It is used scorecard in amino acid substitutions between similar amino acid substitutions to have a differential effect score, and is applied the Markov models sophisticated concealment of the transition probability model. As providing superior method to translate sequences homologous sequences in analysis using blast p, Markov models. is secreted protein structure of sequence translations.

  • This article derived a hybrid coupling technique using the higher-order displacement polynomial and three soft computing techniques (teaching learning-based optimization, particle swarm optimization, and artificial bee colony) to predict the optimal stacking sequence of the layered structure and the corresponding frequency values. The higher-order displacement kinematics is adopted for the mathematical model derivation considering the necessary stress and stain continuity and the elimination of shear correction factor. A nine noded isoparametric Lagrangian element (eighty-one degrees of freedom at each node) is engaged for the discretisation and the desired model equation derived via the classical Hamilton's principle. Subsequently, three soft computing techniques are employed to predict the maximum natural frequency values corresponding to their optimum layer sequences via a suitable home-made computer code. The finite element convergence rate including the optimal solution stability is established through the iterative solutions. Further, the predicted optimal stacking sequence including the accuracy of the frequency values are verified with adequate comparison studies. Lastly, the derived hybrid models are explored further to by solving different numerical examples for the combined structural parameters (length to width ratio, length to thickness ratio and orthotropicity on frequency and layer-sequence) and the implicit behavior discuss in details.
