A novel thin-film nanocomposite (TFN) reverse osmosis (RO)/non-woven fabric (NWF) membrane was prepared by adding zinc oxide (ZnO) nanospheres ($30{\pm}10nm$) during the interfacial polymerization process of m-phenylenediamine (MPD) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) on self-made polysulfone (PSF) membrane/polyester (PET) non-woven fabric support. The improved performance of TFN RO membrane was verified in terms of water contact angle (WCA), water flux, salt rejection, antifouling properties and chlorine resistance. The results showed that the WCA value of TFN RO surface had a continuous decrease with the increasing of ZnO content in MPD aqueous solution. The water flux of composite TFN RO membranes acquired a remarkable increase with a stable high solute rejection (94.5 %) in $1g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NaCl aqueous solution under the optimized addition amount of ZnO (1 wt%). The continuous testing of membrane separation performance after the immersion in sodium hypochlorite solution indicated that the introduction of ZnO nanospheres also dramatically enhanced the antifouling properties and the chlorine resistance of composite RO membranes.
Silica membranes were prepared on a porous ${\alpha}$-alumina tube with pore size of 150nm by sol-gel and chemical vapor deposition(CVD) method for hydrogen separation at high temperatures. Silica and ${\gamma}$-lumina membranes formed by the sol-gel method possessed a large amount of mesopores of a Knudsen diffusion regime. In order to improve the $H_2$ selectivity, silica was deposited in the sol-gel derived silica/${\gamma}$-alumina layer by thermal decomposition of tetraethyl orthosilicate(TEOS) at $600^{\circ}C$. The CVD with forced cross flow through the porous wall of the support was very effective in plugging mesopores that were left unplugged in the membranes. The CVD modified silica/alumina composite membrane completely rejected nitrogen permeation and thus showed a high $H_2$ selectivity by molecular sieve effect. the permeation of hydrogen was explained by activated diffusion and the activation energy was 9.52kJ/mol.
Separation of naphthalene from pyrolyzed fuel oil, by product of Naphta cracking process (NCC) process, has been accomplished by the solvent extraction, distillation and purification process. The residual pyrolyzed fuel oil (PFO), called precursor of carbon materials, has been calcined at $300{\sim}800^{\circ}C$ in nitrogen gas to raw pitch. After the treatment of PFO by hexane and methanol, either a flake phased carbon at $350^{\circ}C$ or a carbon sphere at above $400^{\circ}C$ forms. As the calcination temperature increases, the shape of raw pitch changes from the flake phase to the sphere one, and the size of them decreases to several ${\mu}m$. Based on the BET and XRD spectrum, the carbon sphere is classified to a mesophase amorphous carbon with a cubic phase.

1,3,5-benzenetricarbonyl trichloride is a chemical substance in which three acyl chlorides are located at 1,3,5 position in the benzene ring, and is an important chemical for the area where the good physical and chemical properties are required through high degree of crosslinking. In particular, it is possible to form a three-dimensional structure having a certain pore size, it is used in various separation and purification fields. However, the high reactivity of acyl chloride has the advantage of a fast reaction rate, which means that it is difficult to control chemically to have a certain performance in other aspects. Therefore, in this study, we observed how the chemical change of 1,3,5-benzenetricarbonyl trichloride affected the membrane performance.
The selective removal and recovery of fermentation inhibitors during purification of sugars from biomass hydrolysates can increase the economic efficiency of the entire process to produce bioalcohol from lignocellulosic biomass. This study investigated the effect of furans in phenols-free biomass hydrolysate on acetic acid extraction in an emulsion liquid membrane system. Under specific operating conditions, more than 99% of acetic acid could be extracted within 5 minutes, and the degrees of extraction of furfural and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural were about 10% and 4%, respectively. The extraction rate of acetic acid was also lower at a higher initial concentration of furfural in the feed phase, which was greater for furfural than 5-hydroxymethylfurfural. Thus, if furfural is first removed from the hydrolysate prior to acetic acid extraction, emulsion liquid membrane would be a more economically efficient way of removing acetic acid.
In this study, we have investigated solvent extraction of Ga and recovery of high pure Ga solution from MOCVD dust for manufacturing of LED chip. Effect of extractan, concentration of extractant were examined for choosing the more effective extractant and high pure Ga solution was fabricated by multi-stage extraction/stripping process. For extraction/separation of Ga based on the analysis of raw-material in previous study, 3 different extractants PC 99A, DP-8R, Cyanex 272 has been investigated and the extraction efficiency of 1.5 M Cyanex 272 was 43.8%. It was conformed that extraction efficiency of Ga was 83% in multi-stage extraction and 5N high purity Ga stripping solution without impurities also obtained.
Several experiments have been done to investigate the removal of hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$) synthetic gas from biogas streams by means of chemical absorption and chemical reaction with 0.1-1 M Fe/EDTA solution. The roles of Fe/EDTA were studied to enhance the removal efficiency of hydrogen sulfide because of oxidizing by chelate. The motivation of this investigation is first to explore the feasibility of enhancing the toxic gas treatment in the biogas facility. The biogas purification strategy affords many advantages. For instance, the process can be performed under mild environmental conditions and at low temperature, and it removes hydrogen sulfide selectively. The end product of separation is elemental sulfur, which is a stable material that can be easily disposed with minor potential for further pollution. As the Fe-EDTA concentration increased, the conversion rate of hydrogen sulfide increased because of the high stability of Fe-EDTA complex. pH as an important environmental factor was 9.0 for the stability of chemical complex in the oxidation of hydrogen sulfide.

This paper presents the technology for the design, fabrication, and characterization of a microfluidic system interface (MSI); the purpose of this technology is to enable the integration of complex microfluidic systems. The MSI technology can be applied in a simple manner for realizing complex arrangements of microfluidic interconnects, integrated microvalves for fluid control, and optical windows for on-chip optical processes. A microfluidic system for the preparation of genetic samples was used as the test vehicle to prove the effectiveness of the MSI technology for packaging complex microfluidic systems with multiple functionalities. The miniaturized genetic sample preparation system comprised several functional compartments, including compartments for cell purification, cell separation, cell lysis, solid-phase DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction, and capillary electrophoresis. Additionally, the functional operation of the solid-phase extraction and PCR thermocycling compartments was demonstrated by using the MSI.
This thesis is a study on the symbolism of 'Yeondo', a prayer for the souls in purgatory of Korean Catholic Church as a 'psychic container' for the spiritual transformation in the psyche from a perspective of analytical psychology. Yeondo' could be the 'rites of passage' of the last judgement for the souls in purgatory which is in between the heaven and the hell. And both the bereaved and the dead go through the stages of separation, transition and incorporation which are the schema of the 'rites of passage'. In particular, they have a special sense of solidarity at the stage of transition, a middle state. The symbolic process of 'Yeondo' is a spiritual transformation of recovery of paradise which could access by the confusion of death, purification and the rebirth. A spiritual reborn process of death and rebirth takes place by contacting the collective unconscious. In 'Yeondo', the death is not the end of life but the beginning of the eternal life. The confusion and disintegration caused by death can be purified and start incorporating. The rites of a paradise recovery has the meaning of trying constantly for the recovery of a wholeness. Praying for the blessing of God and a help from saints in paradise for the sake of the dead means to require conscious cooperation for the Self-realization. Integrating and recognizing unconscious also means something beyond the conscious. The blessed souls in purgatory recovers the paradise experiencing specific purifying process heading towards Self. Going into the center, abyss of unconscious will be recognized as an absolute part of oneself. One becomes the inner man, the transformed personality who is reached by the path of self-knowledge, the kingdom of heaven within oneself and can have the transpersonal energy, which enables to access to God's world and union with God. All desire and the will become one with God. In the final analysis, praying for the blessing of God and a help from saints in paradise for the sake of the dead becomes the path for the more and more conscious expansion of the alive. Therefore, 'Yeondo' as an initiation is the individuation process of the alive and the dead to reflect on themselves.
A radioimmunoassay technique has been developed for the quantitative analysis of Abscisic acid (ABA). The antibody, obtained by immunizing rabbits against a conjugate of ABA with human serum albumin, had a high affinity (Ka=3.28x10$\^$13/l/mol) for ABA. The use of $^3$H-labelled ABA as tracer and of dextran-coated charcoal for separation of free ABA from antibody-bound ABA permitted detection of as little as 0.5x10$\^$-12/ mol ABA. The measuring range extended to 14x10$\^$-12/ mol. Because of the high specificity of this immunoassay, no extract purification steps were required prior to analysis. And then, only 2 hr in radioimmunoassay was required to ABA analysis. From these results, it is suggested using this assays that more than hundreds samples can be assayed sensitive and simple per day for ABA.
