Luenberger observer (LO)-based sensorless multi-loop control of a converter requires an iterative trial-and-error design process, considering that many parameters should be determined, and loop gains are indirectly related to the closed-loop characteristics. Robust H∞ control adopts a compact sensorless controller. The algebraic Riccati equation (ARE)-based and linear matrix inequality (LMI)-based H∞ approaches need an exhaustive procedure, particularly for a low-order controller. Therefore, in this study, a novel robust H∞ synthesis approach is proposed to design a low-order sensorless controller for boost converters, which need not solve any ARE or LMI, and to parameterize the controller by an adjustable parameter behaving like a "knob" on the closed-loop characteristics. Simulation results show the straightforward closed-loop characteristics evaluation and better dynamic performance by the proposed H∞ approach, compared with the LO-based sensorless multi-loop control. Practical experiments on a digital processor confirmed the simulation results.

Low costed position sensor or sensorless control method is generally used in the motor control for home appliance because of the material cost and manufacture standard restriction. In conventional sensorless method, the stator resistance and back-EMF coefficient are varied by the motor speed and load torque variation. Therefore, position error occurred when the motor is operated by sensorless control method because of these variations. In this paper, the compensation method is proposed for sensorless position error using 2 hall sensors.

This application study presents a solution to control a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor without sensors. The use of this system yields enhanced operations, fewer system components, lower system cost , energy efficient control system design and increased efficiency. The control method presented is field oriented control (FOC). The sinusoidal voltage waveforms are generated by the power module using the space vector modulation technique. A practical solution is described and results are given in this application Study. The performance of a Sensorless architecture allows an intelligent approach to reduce the complete system costs of digital motion control applications using cheaper electrical motors without sensors. This paper deals with an overview of sensorless solutions in digital motor control applications whereby the focus will be the new Controller without sensors and its applications.

Various control algorithms have been proposed for the speed-sensorless control for an induction motor. These control schemes are mainly based on the speed feedback with the flux and speed estimations. This paper proposes another method for the speed-sensorless control for an induction motor. The proposed scheme is based on the torque and flux compensation without speed estimations, in which the same controlled stator voltage is applied to both the induction motor and the numerical model so that the differences between torques and fluxes of the model and the induction motor may be compelled to give access to zero. The results of experiment show the effectiveness of the scheme.

This paper presents an implementation of digital high-performance Position sensorless motion control system of an induction motor drives with Direct Torque Control(DTC). The system consist of closed loop stator flux and torque observer, speed and torque estimators, two hysteresis controller, optimal switching look-up table, IGBT voltage source inverter, and TMS320C31 DSP board. The stator flux observer is based on the combined current and voltage model with stator flux feedback adaptive control of which inputs are current and voltage sensed on motor terminal for wide speed range. The speed observer is using the model reference adaptive system(MRAS) with rotor flux linkages for speed turning signal. The simulation and experimental results are provided to evacuate the consistency and the performance of the suggested position sensorless control algorithm. The developed position sensorless system are shown a good motion control response characteristic and high performance features using 2.2[kw] general purposed induction motor.

This paper describes a control scheme of speed sensorless fuzzy direct torque control (FDTC) of permanent magnet synchronous motor for electric vehicle (EV). Electric vehicle requires fast torque response and high efficiency of the drive. Speed sensorless FDTC In-wheel PMSM drives without mechanical speed sensors at the motor shaft have the attractions of low cost, quick response and high reliability in electric vehicle application. This paper presents a new approach to estimate the speed of in-wheel electrical vehicles based on Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS). The direct torque control suffers in low speeds due to the effect of changes in stator resistance on the flux measurements. To improve the system performance at low speeds, a PI-fuzzy resistance estimator is proposed to eliminate the error due to changes in stator resistance. High performance sensorless drive of the in-wheel motor based on MRAS with on line stator resistance tuning is established for four motorized wheels electric vehicle and the whole system is simulated by matalb/simulink. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the new control strategy. This proposed control strategy is extensively used in electric vehicle application.

The paper proposes a sensorless speed control strategy for a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) based on a new SMO (Sliding Mode Observer), which substitutes a signum function with a sigmoid function. To apply robust sensorless control of PMSM against parameter fluctuations and disturbance, the high speed SMO is proposed, which estimates the rotor position and angular velocity from the back EMF. The low-pass filter and additional position compensation of the rotor are used to reduce the chattering problem commonly found in sliding mode observer with signum function, which becomes possible by applying the sigmoid function with the control of a switching function. Also the proposed sliding mode observer with the sigmoid function has better efficiency than the conventional sliding mode observer since it adjusts the observer gain by variable boundary layer and estimates the stator resistance. The stability of the proposed sliding mode observer is verified by the Lyapunov second method in determining the observer gain. The validity of the proposed high speed PMSM sensorless velocity control has been demonstrated by real experiments.

The PMSM position sensor using two rectangular hall sensors can restrictively acquire the 90[$^{\circ}$] position information of rotor according to electrical angle. Thus, the control method using this position sensor cannot react properly to a rapid load torque change. On the other hand, even though a sensorless method has the advantage of acquiring instantaneous rotor position information, the accuracy of position sensor can be determined by the gain value of estimator. This paper suggests a robust speed control method on torque fluctuation condition, which combines low cost two rectangular hall sensors and sensorless control method.

High efficiency operation is required for motors of vehicle to increase fuel efficiency due to the regulation of exhaust gas. This paper presents a control method of fuel pressure to increase fuel efficiency and a sensorless control method of BLDC motor to get higher efficiency than conventional brushed DC motor. Initial rotor position of BLDC motor is detected from current value that is occurred by test voltage pulse and rotor is accelerated by defined sequence to enter sensorless operation mode. The algorithm to control flow rate of fuel pump uses PI controller that is control motor speed to maintain the target fuel pressure commanded by ECU.

A sensorless speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) which utilizes MRAS based scheme to estimate rotor speed and position is presented. Considering an error between real and estimated rotor position values, a state equation of PMSM in the synchronous d-q reference frame is represented. A state equation of model system which uses estimated speed and nominal parameter values is expressed. To minimize the errors between the derivatives of d-q axis currents of real and model system, MRAS based adaptation mechanisms for the estimation of rotor speed and position are derived. On the other hand, for the acceleration stage of motor just before the sensorless operation, an acceleration scheme using only d-axis current control is proposed. To show the validity of the proposed scheme, experimental works are carried out and evaluated. During acceleration stage, the acceleration scheme using only d-axis current command shows good acceleration performance and controlled current level. For the sensorless operation, at low speed (5% of rated speed), a good performance is observed.
