  • Brushless DC Motor(PM BLDCM) is widely used in industrial applications due to its high efficiency and power density. In order to increase reliability and reduce system cost, this paper studies particularly applicable method for sensorless PM BLDCM drive system. The resulting third harmonic signal keeps a constant phase relationship with the rotor flux for any motor speed and load condition, and is practically free of noise that can be introduced by the inverter switching, making this a robust sensing method. As a result, the method described here is not sensitive to filtering delays, allowing the motor to achieve a good performance over a wide speed range. In addition, a simple starting method and a speed estimation approach are also proposed.

  • Recently, the study of sensorless drive of IPMSM is coming to be active. In sensorless drive, because the wrong estimation of the initial rotor position brings about the decrease of the starting torque, or a temporary reverse revolution, it is important to know the exact importation of the initial rotor position. In this paper, the initial rotor position estimation method is based on the current peak measured by applying the pulsewise voltage and the current peak is changed according to the rotor position owing to the saliency of the rotor. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by the experimental results.

  • This paper investigates the restart performance of sensorlessly controlled IPMSM Fan motor free-running in middle or high speed range just after inverter power off. There could be some difficulties to extract exact position information by using conventional sensorless control for restarting the motor because of stopped inverter operation. To solve this problem, we proposes to use low cost hall sensor. Using a hall sensor with SMO (Sliding Mode Observer) give us a solution to facilitate rotor position information extraction. The algorithm in this paper shows a certain way of the restarting method.

  • Using Observer, on the sensorless vector control system is a novel techniques for modern induction motor control. In this paper, a speed estimation algorithm of an induction motor using an extended kalman filter was proposed. Extended kalman filter can solve the problem, that have steady state error of estimated speed in flux and slip estimation method. The extended Kalman filter is employed to identify the speed of an induction motor and rotor flux based on the measured quantities such as stator current and DC link voltage. In order to confirming above proposal, computer simulation carried out using Matlab Simulink and show the effectiveness of the control drives for induction motor speed estimation.

  • This paper proposes a wide speed range sensorless vector control strategy. At low speed region, the difference of high frequency impedances is used in order to estimate the rotor flux angle. At high speed region this algorithm is combined with the adaptive observer. It enables the stable operation even at zero speed under the rated load condition This is verified by experimental results.

  • In this paper a new analytical model for the non-linear flux-linkage/current characteristics of the switched reluctance motors at different rotor positions is proposed. The model has been successfully verified by the simulation and the experimental results of the instantaneous current waveforms and the average torque values in both single pulse and multiple pulse operation of the motor. The uniqueness of the model lies in its defining a simple algorithm for determining the rotor position ($\theta$). Hence, sensorless operation of the motor can be easily implemented with the aid of this model.

  • Speed and torque controls of permanent magnet synchronous motors are usually attained by the application of position and speed sensors. However, speed and position sensors require the additional mounting space, reduce the reliability in harsh environments and increase the cost of a motor. Therefore, many studies have been performed for the elimination of speed and position sensors. This paper investigates an Improved sliding mode observer for the speed sensorless control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The proposed control strategy is the sliding mode observer with a variable boundary layer for a low-chattering and fast-reponse control. The proposed algorithm is verified through the simulation and experimentation.

  • A Switched Reluctance Generator attracts much attention in the generator because of high efficiency, simplicity, and ruggedness. However, they require rotor position information to operate. In many systems, the rotor position sensor is expensive, limited and undesirable. This paper describes a new approach to estimating the rotor position of a SRG from the measured terminal voltage and current for rotor position sensorless control. The proposed method Is based on the instantaneous inductance of the SRG. The proposed technique is very simple and it is able to apply to high speed operation under the stable condition because of its simplicity. The initial rotor position estimation algorithm is efficient and reliable. The proposed method is verified by computer simulation.
