The main purpose of this study was to clarify the validity with patient's general background of Korean Pain Measurement tool. The subjects of this study were 195 patient from the 8 Med-Surgical wards in H. University Hospital in Seoul. The study was conducted over a 40 day period from Oct. 5, 1985 to Nov. 15, 1985. All patients had pain. Korean Pain Measurement tool and simple discriptive pain scale as Graphic Rating Scale were used to measure the pain, The Pearson Correlation Coefficient test was exercised to measure the correlation between the two kinds of pain tools. To clarify the Sensitivity of Korean Pain tool was used frequency with patient's response. To compare the difference in Pain levels with patient's general background, ANOVA and t-test was employed. To compare the difference in pain levels existed due to pain area of the body used mean numbers. The outcome of the study was as follows : 1. A positive correlation did exist between two pain measurement tools. (r=.2028∼.7768, p <0.002) 2. The sensitive subclass in Korean Pain Measurement tools was 7 subclass. The 7 subclass are inflammatory repeated pain, simple stimulating, traction pressure, dull pain, cavity pain, digestion related pain, suffering. related pain. 3. The existence of levels of pain in accordance with patient's general background, the department of hospital, pain area of the body and school age was supported. Age, sex, religion, marrital status, economic status, acute or chronic status was not supported. 4. The existence of higher pain levels of the body area was anus, chest, and lower pain levels of the body area was eye, ear, nose and throat. Based on the above results, it was found that sensitive subclasses of the Korean Pain Measurement tool was 7 subclass among all of 20 subclass. Thus it can be concluded that Korean Pain Mea-surement tool when partialy used and supplemented, can be an effective tool of pain measurement for the patient in Korea.
Few studies on the biomechanical analysis of hand postures and tool handling tasks exist because of the lack of appropriate measurement techniques for hand force. A measurement system for the finger forces and joint angles for the analysis of manual tool handling tasks was developed in this study. The measurement system consists of a force sensing glove made from twelve Force Sensitive Resistors and an angle-measuring glove (Cyberglove$^{TM}$, Virtual technologies) with eighteem joint angle sensors. A biomechanical model of the hand using the data from the measurement system was also developed. Systems of computerized procedures were implemented inte- grating the hand posture measurement system, biomechanical analysis system, and the task analysis system for manual tool handling tasks. The measurement system was useful in providing the hand force data needed for an existing task analysis system used in CTD risk evaluation. It is expected that the hand posture measurement developed in this study will provide an efficient and cost-effective solution to task analysis of manual tool handling tasks.s.
An experimental investigation was performed to study the characteristics of laminar water flow in a horizontal circular tube by using liquid crystal. A simultaneous measurement technique has been employed to measure the temperature field in a two-dimensional cross section of fluid flow. This study found the temperature distribution for Re =900~1,500 along longitudinal sections and the results appear to be physically reasonable. To determine some characteristics of the laminar flow, 2D PIV technique is employed for temperature measurement and liquid crystal is used for heat transfer experiments in water. The experimental rig was manufactured from an acryle tube. The test tube diameter of 25mm, and a length of 1200mm. The used algorithm is the gray level cross-correlation method by using Kimura et al. in 1986.

This paper presents the design, fabrication sequence and measurement results of a highly sensitive capacitive-type humidity sensor using a polyimide film without hydrophobic elements. The structure of the humidity sensor is MIM (metalinsulator-metal). For a high sensitivity, a modified aromatic polyimides as a moisture absorbing layer has been synthesized instead of using general polyimides containing hydrophobic elements. The polyimide film was obtained by synthesizing and thermally polymerizing polyamic acid composed of m-pyromellitic dianhydride, phenelenediamine and dimethylacetamide. Characteristics of fabricated sensors which include sensitivity, hysteresis and stability have been measured. The measurement result shows the percent normalized capacitance change of 0.37/%RH over a range from 10 to 90%RH, hysteresis of 0.77% over the same %RH range and maximum drift of 0.25% at 50%RH. The result shows that the developed humidity sensor can be applied to evaluate a hermeticity of various sensors and actuator systems as well as micro packages.
One-dimensional Consolidation tests with pore pressure measurement were caried in the ANTE-US consolidometer in order to investigate the effects of loading conditions on consolidation behavior of the soft clay. Undisturbed specimens of a sensitive clay were loaded in load-increment ratioes 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0, and load increment duration of 1, 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours with the application of 40 psi of back pressure. There is no significant effect of load-increment ratio on compression-pressure relationship, but the test with one-hour load increment duration doesn't represent the same results of the standard consolidation test in the sensitive clay.
We examined high ozone episodes observed during the intensive measurement periods (11 May~21 June and 30 July~11 August 2009) in the Gulf of Gwangyang. During that period, there were a few events (or days) in which 1 hr averaged ozone concentrations were greater than 100 ppbv. The analysis of ozone budget and photochemical characteristics related to the ozone production was carried out using a photochemical box model. Ozone sensitivity to $NO_x$ and VOCs was also examined in the study area during the measurement period. Diurnal variation of ozone during the episodes was similar to that of odd hydrogen radicals ($HO_2,CH_3O_2$, and $RO_2$), suggesting significant correlation with photochemical production of ozone during the episodes. In general, ozone concentration in the study area during the measurement period was sensitive to VOCs, whereas ozone was sensitive to $NO_x$ under certain conditions. Ozone sensitivity assessment using a radical budget analysis and $NO_x$/VOCs-control strategy was consistent with that using indicator species ($H_2O_2/HNO_3$ ratio).
A novel measurement method to obtain the 6-DOF motions of arbitrary rigid bodies is proposed in this paper. The method adopts a specially fabricated mirror called 3-facet mirror, which looks like a triangular pyramid haying an equilateral cross-sectional shape. The mirror is mounted on the objects to be measured, illuminated by a laser beam having circular profile, and reflects the laser beam in three different directions. Three PSDs(position sensitive detector) detect the three beams reflected by the mirror, respectively. From the signals of the PSDs, we can calculate the 3-dimensional position and orientation of the 3-facet mirror, and thus enabling us to determine the 3-dimensional position and orientation of the objects. In this paper, we model the relationship between the 3-dimensional position and orientation of an object in motion and the outputs of three PSDs. A series of experiments are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method. The experimental results show that the proposed sensing system can be an effective means of obtaining 3-dimensional position and orientation of arbitrary objects and provide resonable measurement accuracy.
In this paper, the heat transfer coefficient measurement techniques using TSP(temperature sensitive paint) were introduced and the results of a comparative study on the heat transfer coefficient measurement by steady state and transient TSP techniques were discussed. The distributions of heat transfer coefficient by a single $60^{\circ}$ inclined impingement jet on a flat surface were measured by both techniques. Tested Reynolds number based on the jet diameter (d) was 30,000 and the distance between jet exit and target plate (L) was fixed at 10d. Results showed that the measured Nusselt number by both techniques indicated significant difference except near the center of impingement jet. Also, the heat transfer coefficients measured by the transient TSP technique were affected by the reference temperature of the jet. Based on the measured data, characteristics of both TSP techniques were analyzed and suggestions for applying them were also given.
In order to do continuous health monitoring of large structures, it is necessary that the distributed sensing of strain and temperature of the structures be measured. So, we present the temperature compensation of a signal from a fiber optic BOTDA (Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analysis) sensor. A fiber optic BOTDA sensor has good performance of strain measurement. However, the signal of a fiber optic BOTDA sensor is influenced by strain and temperature. Therefore, we applied an optical fiber on the beam as follows: one part of the fiber, which is sensitive to the strain and the temperature, is bonded on the surface of the beam and another part of the fiber, which is only sensitive to the temperature, is located nearby the strain sensing fiber. Therefore, the strains can be determined from the strain sensing fiber while compensating for the temperature from the temperature sensing fiber. These measured strains were compared with the strains from electrical strain gages. After temperature compensation, it was concluded that the strains from the fiber optic BOTDA sensor had good coincidence with those values of the conventional electrical strain gages.
