  • In this paper, our main objective is to introduce the notion of conformal hemi-slant submersions from almost Hermitian manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds as a generalized case of conformal anti-invariant submersions, conformal semi-invariant submersions and conformal slant submersions. We mainly focus on conformal hemi-slant submersions from Kähler manifolds. During this manner, we tend to study and investigate integrability of the distributions which are arisen from the definition of the submersions and the geometry of leaves of such distributions. Moreover, we tend to get necessary and sufficient conditions for these submersions to be totally geodesic for such manifolds. We also provide some quality examples of conformal hemi-slant submersions.

  • The main goal of the paper is the introduction of the notion of conformal hemi-slant submersions from almost contact metric manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds. It is a generalization of conformal anti-invariant submersions, conformal semi-invariant submersions and conformal slant submersions. Our main focus is conformal hemi-slant submersion from cosymplectic manifolds. We tend also study the integrability of the distributions involved in the definition of the submersions and the geometry of their leaves. Moreover, we get necessary and sufficient conditions for these submersions to be totally geodesic, and provide some representative examples of conformal hemi-slant submersions.

  • In this paper, we mainly study the problem of the existence of homogeneous geodesics in sub-Finsler manifolds. Firstly, we obtain a characterization of a homogeneous curve to be a geodesic. Then we show that every compact connected homogeneous sub-Finsler manifold and Carnot group admits at least one homogeneous geodesic through each point. Finally, we study a special class of ℓp-type bi-invariant metrics on compact semi-simple Lie groups. We show that every homogeneous curve in such a metric space is a geodesic. Moreover, we prove that the Alexandrov curvature of the metric space is neither non-positive nor non-negative.

  • This work is a modified version of an earlier work that was based on ellipsoidal type feasible sets. Unlike the earlier work, polyhedral types of invariant and feasible sets are adopted to deal with input constraints. The use of polyhedral sets enables the formulation of on-line algorithm in terms of QP (Quadratic Programming), which can be solved more efficiently than semi-def algorithms. A simple numerical example shows that the proposed method yields larger stabilizable sets with greater bounds on disturbances than is the case in the earlier approach.

  • In this paper, we construct new classes from the idea of [6, Theorem 2.1] and show that the property of operators belonging to the classes is inherited by certain dilations. And we also prove that the existence of common noncyclic vectors for certain families is equivalent to the existence of infinite dimensional common semi-invariant subspace of operators.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the geometry of null curves in a 6-dimensional semi-Riemannian manifold $M_q$ of index q, since the general n-dimensional cases are too complicated. We show that it is possible to construct three types of Frenet equations of null curves in $M_q$, supported by one example. We find each types of Frenet equations invariant under any causal change. And we discuss some properties of null curves in $M_q$.

  • We continue the study of fully idempotent rings initiated by Courter. It is shown that a (semi)prime ring, but not fully idempotent, can be always constructed from any (semi)prime ring. It is shown that the full idempotence is both Morita invariant and a hereditary radical property, obtaining $hs(Mat_n(R))\;=\;Mat_n(hs(R))$ for any ring R where hs(-) means the sum of all fully idempotent ideals. A non-semiprimitive fully idempotent ring with identity is constructed from the Smoktunowicz's simple nil ring. It is proved that the full idempotence is preserved by the classical quotient rings. More properties of fully idempotent rings are examined and necessary examples are found or constructed in the process.

  • In this paper, we present a digital image authentication using semi-fragile watermarking techniques. The algorithm is robust to innocuous manipulations while detecting malicious manipulations. Specifically, the proposed method is designed for the purpose of the real time authentication of an image frame captured from a digital camera due to its easy H/W implementation, security and visible verification. To achieve the semi-fragile characteristics that survive a certain amount of compression, we employ the invariant property of DCT coefficients' quantization proposed by Lin and Chang [1]. The binary watermark bits are generated by exclusive ORing the binary logo with pseudo random binary sequences. Then watermark bits are embedded into the LSBs of pre-quantized DCT coefficients in the medium frequency range. Verification is carried out easily due to visually recognizable pattern of the logo extracted by exclusive ORing the LSBs of the embedded DCT coefficient with pseudo random number seeded by a secret key. By the experiment results, this method is not only robust to JPEG compression but also it detects powerfully alterations of the original image, such as the tempering of images.

  • In this study, using high cycle fatigue (HCF) criteria, the simulation of rolling contact fatigue is conducted under elliptical contact. The HCF criteria fall into three categories: the critical plane approach, the stress invariant approach and the approach based on the mesoscopic scale. The accurate calculation of contact stresses and subsurface stresses is essential to the prediction of crack initiation life. Contact stresses are obtained by contact analysis of a semi-infinite solid based on the use of influence functions and the subsurface stress field is obtained using rectangular patch solutions. The simulation results show that the critical load is decreasing rapidly and the site of crack initiation also moves rapidly to the surface from the subsurface when the friction coefficient exceeds a specific value for all of three fatigue criteria.

  • Local feature extraction methods for images and videos are widely applied in the fields of image understanding and computer vision. However, robust features are detected differently when using the latest feature detectors and descriptors because of diverse image environments. This paper analyzes various feature extraction methods by summarizing algorithms, specifying properties, and comparing performance. We analyze eight feature extraction methods. The performance of feature extraction in various image environments is compared and evaluated. As a result, the feature detectors and descriptors can be used adaptively for image sequences captured under various image environments. Also, the evaluation of feature detectors and descriptors can be applied to driving assistance systems, closed circuit televisions (CCTVs), robot vision, etc.
