A Study on Object Detection and Warning Model for the Prevention of Right Turn Car Accidents (우회전 차량 사고 예방을 위한 객체 탐지 및 경고 모델 연구)

  • With a continuous occurrence of right-turn traffic accidents at intersections, there is an increasing demand for measures to address these incidents. In response, a technology has been developed to detect the presence of pedestrians through object detection in CCTV footage at right-turn areas and display warning messages on the screen to alert drivers. The YOLO (You Only Look Once) model, a type of object detection model, was employed to assess the performance of object detection. An algorithm was also devised to address misidentification issues and generate warning messages when pedestrians are detected. The accuracy of recognizing pedestrians or objects and outputting warning messages was measured at approximately 82%, suggesting a potential contribution to preventing right-turn accidents

Estimation of Source Apportionment for Semi-Continuous PM2.5 and Identification of Location for Local Point Sources at the St. Louis Supersite, USA (미국 St. Louis Supersite에서의 준 실시간 PM2.5에 대한 기여도 추정 및 지역 규모 오염원의 위치 파악)

  • In this study, 1-hour integrated $PM_{2.5}$ mass and chemical composition concentrations were monitored at the St. Louis-Midwest Supersite in Illinois. Time-resolved samples were collected one week in each of June 2001 (22 June to 28 June), November 2001 (7 November to 13 November), and March 2002 (19 March to 25 March). A total of 427 samples were collected by CAMM (continuous ambient mass monitor) and 15 compounds were analyzed by AAS, PILS (particle-into-liquid sampler), and TOT (thermal optical transmittance) method. PMF was applied to identify the sources and apportion the $PM_{2.5}$ mass to each source for highly time resolved data. In addition, the nonparametric regression (NPR) was applied to identify the predominant directions of local sources relative to wind direction. Also, this study performed compare the NPR analysis and location of actual local point sources at the St. Louis area. The PMF modeling identified nine sources and the average mass was apportioned to gasoline vehicle, road dust, zinc smelter, copper production, secondary sulfate, diesel emission, secondary nitrate, iron+steel, and lead smelter, respectively. These results suggested that this study results will be help for $PM_{2.5}$ source apportionment studies at similar metropolitan area, establish $PM_{2.5}$ standard, and establish effective emissions reduction strategies in Korea.

  • For improvement of photobiological hydrogen production, Rhodopseudomonas El5-1, a photo-synthetic becterium capable of producing n high yield of hydrogen, was immobilized and conditions for hydrogen production by immobilized cells were examined. The optimum concentration for the combined matrix was obtained when sodium alginate was used at final concentration of 4%. The immobilized cells may reduce the inhibitory effects of nitrogen or oxygen. To minimize the diffusion resistance of the nutrients in alginate gel, the bend size less than 2 mm in diameter was desirable. The immobilized cells were also able to utilize n wide range of organic substrates for the production of hydrogen. The hydrogen producing activity of the immobilized cells was maintained for 20 days without loss of activity during semi-continuous operation of the reactor by feeding of new medium periodically and continuous production of hydrogen could be successfully performed for 30 days.

Sentence design for speech recognition database

  • The material of database for speech recognition should include phonetic phenomena as much as possible. At the same time, such material should be phonetically compact with low redundancy[1, 2]. The phonetic phenomena in continuous speech is the key problem in speech recognition. This paper describes the processing of a set of sentences collected from the database of 1993 and 1994 "People's Daily"(Chinese newspaper) which consist of news, politics, economics, arts, sports etc.. In those sentences, both phonetic phenometla and sentence patterns are included. In continuous speech, phonemes always appear in the form of allophones which result in the co-articulary effects. The task of designing a speech database should be concerned with both intra-syllabic and inter-syllabic allophone structures. In our experiments, there are 404 syllables, 415 inter-syllabic diphones, 3050 merged inter-syllabic triphones and 2161 merged final-initial structures in read speech. Statistics on the database from "People's Daily" gives and evaluation to all of the possible phonetic structures. In this sentence set, we first consider the phonetic balances among syllables, inter-syllabic diphones, inter-syllabic triphones and semi-syllables with their junctures. The syllabic balances ensure the intra-syllabic phenomena such as phonemes, initial/final and consonant/vowel. the rest describes the inter-syllabic jucture. The 1560 sentences consist of 96% syllables without tones(the absent syllables are only used in spoken language), 100% inter-syllabic diphones, 67% inter-syllabic triphones(87% of which appears in Peoples' Daily). There are rougWy 17 kinds of sentence patterns which appear in our sentence set. By taking the transitions between syllables into account, the Chinese speech recognition systems have gotten significantly high recognition rates[3, 4]. Study on Nursing Needs for Hospice Patients and their Families (호스피스 환자와 가족의 간호요구 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify nursing needs for hospice patients and their families in order to establish a foundation for appropriate Korean hospice care. To achieve the purpose of this study, 1 interviewed 50 patients who were going to die within 3 or 6 months and 42 family members of these patients who were registered in Pusan National University Hospital Hospice Program. The interview was done in the patient's room using semi-dialog style questionnaire. Data collection was done from March 1, 1999 to September 30. 1999. The important results of this study are summarized as follows : 1. Nursing needs that patients and their families have experienced were classified into six nursing domains; physical, emotional, economic, educational, spiritual and postmortal care. 2. Nursing needs of hospice patients are; pain control(80%), physical comfort(72%), consideration from medical personnel(68%), provision of information(64%), best treatment(60%), help of volunteers(36%), and continuous hospital treatment(32%). 3. Nursing needs of the families are; pain-control in Patients(97.6%), best treatment(97.6%), physical comfort of patients(95.2%), continuous hospital treatment(92.8%), provision of information(80.9%), consideration from medical personnel(76.1%), expectation of recovery(66.6%), emotional support of family(61.9%), and physical comfort of family(40.4%). It is concluded that there is a real difference between the nursing needs of patients and the nursing needs of their families. Therefore we must examine and intervene for the demands of patients and their families using a holistic approach in order to meet their hospice needs.

Sun Burn Incidence and Knowledge of Greek Elementary and High School Children about Sun Protection

  • Introduction: Overexposure to sun radiation and particularly its accumulation during childhood and adolescence is a significant risk factor for skin cancer development. The sun burn is particularly important. Aim: To estimate sun burn incidence in young pupils in a coastal area of Greece. Materials and Methods: Two surveys were conducted in a school population in the same district in Greece, over different periods of time, in young people 9 to 18 years old (n=2 977). Anonymous questionnaires were completed. Levels of significance were two-tailed and statistical significance was set at p=0.05. SPSS 17.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results: From the individual characteristics of the participants it was shown that the majority of them had dark hair and fair skin, whereas a significant percentage reported the existence of moles on face and their body (83.4% vs 68.1%). The sun burn incidence was high in adolescents and the younger pupils (41.9% vs 55.6%). The younger aged children who were living in an urban area had significantly higher rates of sun burn than those living in semi-urban areas (33.8% vs 24.8%, p=0.020). As far as the knowledge of pupils about the risks of sun radiation it was shown that the elementary school pupils had better knowledge than those at high school. Finally, those with better knowledge had the fewer sun burns (Mean 2.83 SD 0.87, p<0.001). Conclusions: The contribution of knowledge to the decrease of sun burn incidence is important as long as this is continuous. Therefore, the education should concern not only children but also teachers and parents in the context of continuous and systematic programs of health education.

ULTRAPRODUCTS OF LOCALLY CONVEX SPACES

  • In this paper, we try to generalize ultraproducts in the category of locally convex spaces. To do so, we introduce D-ultracolimits. It is known [7] that the topology on a non-trivial ultraproduct in the category T $V^{ec}$ of topological vector spaces and continuous linear maps is trivial. To generalize the category Ba $n_{1}$ of Banach spaces and linear contractions, we introduce the category L $C_{1}$ of vector spaces endowed with families of semi-norms closed underfinite joints and linear contractions (see Definition 1.1) and its subcategory, L $C_{2}$ determined by Hausdorff objects of L $C_{1}$. It is shown that L $C_{1}$ contains the category LC of locally convex spaces and continuous linear maps as a coreflective subcategory and that L $C_{2}$ contains the category Nor $m_{1}$ of normed linear spaces and linear contractions as a coreflective subcategory. Thus L $C_{1}$ is a suitable category for the study of locally convex spaces. In L $C_{2}$, we introduce $l_{\infty}$(I. $E_{i}$ ) for a family ( $E_{i}$ )$_{i.mem.I}$ of objects in L $C_{2}$ and then for an ultrafilter u on I. we have a closed subspace $N_{u}$ . Using this, we construct ultraproducts in L $C_{2}$. Using the relationship between Nor $m_{1}$ and L $C_{2}$ and that between Nor $m_{1}$ and Ba $n_{1}$, we show thatour ultraproducts in Nor $m_{1}$ and Ba $n_{1}$ are exactly those in the literatures. Spherical and cylindrical microencapsulation of living cells using microfluidic devices

  • Microencapsulation of cells within microfluidic devices enables explicit control of the membrane thickness or cell density, resulting in improved viability of the transplanted cells within an aggressive immune system. In this study, living cells (3T3 and L929 fibroblast cells) are encapsulated within a semi-permeable membrane (calcium crosslinked alginate gel) in two different device designs, a flow focusing and a core-annular flow focusing geometry. These two device designs produce a bead and a long microfibre, respectively. For the alginate bead, an alginate aqueous solution incorporating cells flows through a flow focusing channel and an alginate droplet is formed from the balance of interfacial forces and viscous drag forces resulting from the continuous (oil) phase flowing past the alginate solution. It immediately reacts with an adjacent $CaCl_2$ drop that is extruded into the main flow channel by another flow focusing channel downstream of the site of alginate drop creation. Depending on the flow conditions, monodisperse microbeads of sizes ranging from $50-200\;{\mu}m$ can be produced. In the case of the microfibre, the alginate solution with cells is extruded into a continuous phase of $CaCl_2$ solution. The diameter of alginate fibres produced via this technique can be tightly controlled by changing both flow rates. Cell viability in both forms of alginate encapsulant was confirmed by a LIVE/DEAD cell assay for periods of up to 24 hours post encapsulation.

Spatial Structure Analysis and Post Occupancy Evaluation of Jungja(Pavilion) Shelter for Rural Village Regeneration - On the Jungja Shelter in Gimcheom city and Kyeongsan city - (농촌마을 재생을 위한 정자쉼터 공간구조분석과 이용 후 평가 - 경산권, 김천권 정자쉼터를 대상으로 -)

  • This study is to analyze the spatial structure and POE of Jungja(pavilion) shelter for rural village regeneration. 14 Jungja shelter space at rural villages in Gyungbuk province, were investigated. An interview questionnaire was conducted for total 139 residents as POE. The use behavior and satisfaction for Jungja shelter space, were investigated. The statistical analysis were mean of satisfactions, reliability, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results and discussions can be objective data for rural village regeneration. In satisfaction level, 'Continuous use intention'(3.99), 'Well-suited approach'(3.87), and 'Helpful in resident living'(3.84) were shown to be high points of agreement in 5 point Likert type scale. But, the mean points were low as 2.01 in 'Surrounding landscape', 'Creation of green areas'(3.22), and 'Traffic safety'(3.22), respectively. Within use satisfaction, 5 factors were categorized, 'Use', 'Safety', 'Facility', 'Management' and 'Users'. By the result of multiple regression analysis, variables of 'Continuous use', 'Convenient location', and 'Image improvement', were shown to be main affecting variables to overall satisfaction. Furthermore, in spatial structure analysis, 4 types were categorized with the aspect of landform, roads, and location in village. The levels of satisfaction were shown to be high in village type of semi-open, road type of circular, and location type of center/back. Conclusively, these findings could be utilized as basic data and useful tool of space-structural satisfaction analytic method, and for each stage of planning/design and remodeling for rural village regeneration.

The Effect of Types of Weight-Bearing Surfaces on Muscle Activities of Lower Limbs and Weight Distribution During Semi-Squat Movement of Patients With Hemiplegia (편마비 환자의 반 쪼그려 앉기(semi-squat)동작 시 양하지 지지면의 형태가 하지 근활성도와 체중분포에 미치는 영향)

  • This study used an unstable platform to change the support surface type and position of both lower limbs in order to determine changes in weight distribution and muscle including the vastus medialis, tibialis anterior, lateral hamstring, and lateral gastrocnemius of both lower limbs were evaluated during knee joint flexing and extending in a semi-squat movement in 32 hemiplegic patients. The support surface conditions applied to the lower limbs were divided into four categories: condition 1 had a stable platform for both lower limbs; condition 2 had an unstable platform for the non-hemiplegic side and a stable platform for the hemiplegic side; condition 3 had a stable platform for the non-hemiplegic side and an unstable platform for the hemiplegic side; and condition 4 had an unstable platform for both sides. The normalized EMG activity levels of muscles and weight bearing ratio of both sides in the four surface conditions were compared using repeated measures ANOVA. A significant increase was found in the weight support distribution for the hemiplegic side in flexing and extending sessions in condition 2 compared to the other conditions (p<.05). A statistically significant decrease in significant decrease in asymmetrical weight bearing in flexing and extending sessions was observed for condition 2 compared to the other conditions (p<.05). A similar significant decrease was found in differences in muscular activity for both lower limbs in condition 2 (p<.05). The muscular activity of the hemiplegic side, based on the support surface for each muscle showed a significantly greater increase in condition 2 (p<.05). An unstable platform for the non-hemiplegic side and a stable platform for the hemiplegic side therefore increased symmetry in terms of the weight support distribution rate and muscle activity of lower limbs in hemiplegic patients. The problem of postural control due to asymmetry in hemiplegic patients should be further studied with the aim of developing continuous effects of functional training based on the type and position of the support surfaces and functional improvement.
