Purpose : Hand-held dental x-ray system is a self contained x-ray machine designed to perform intraoral radiography with one or two hands. The issue about its usage as general dental radiography is still in dispute. The aim of the present study was to assess the relationship between the amount of battery charge and the tube voltage in different handheld dental x-ray systems. Materials and Methods : Seven hand-held dental x-ray units were used for the study. Tube voltage was measured with Unfors ThinX RAD (Unfors Instruments AB, Billdal, Sweden) for 3 consecutive exposures at the different amount of battery charge of each unit. The average and the deviation percentage of measured kV from indicated kV of each unit were calculated. Results : Tube voltage of only 1 unit was 70 kV (indicated by manufacturer) and those of the others were 60 kV. Tube voltage deviation percentage from the indicated kV at the fully charged battery was from 2.5% to -5.5% and from -0.8% to -10.0% at the lowest charged battery. Conclusion : Tube voltages of all units decreased as the residual amount of the battery charge decreased. It is suggested that the performance test for hand-held x-ray system should be performed for the minimum residual charged battery as well as the full charged one. Persistent battery charging is suggested to maintain the proper tube voltage of the hand-held portable x-ray system.

A novel TEM resonator coil was developed for the imaging of small animals. The functional elements of the TEM resonator were 8 inner conductors, distributed in a cylindrical pattern and connected at the ends with capacitors to the cylindrical outer shield. The TEM resonator coil with cavity elements was robust to the surrounding influences due to the self-shielding structure. The TEM resonator coil with high Q factor could provide high quality MR images at 3.0T MRI system. Also, the TEM resonator coil has an advantage for a fine tune with length adjustment of each cavity elements. Thus, The TEM resonator coil at 3.0T, even higher field could be used in the research studies.

The aim of the study was to investigate the neural substrates associated with processing anger among young males with alcohol use disorders (AUDs) using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Eighteen individuals with AUD and 15 demographically similar non-abusers participated in the study. Participants were scanned on their brain functioning while they viewed an audio-visual film clip that was previously designed specifically to induce anger emotion, followed by anpsychological assessment. Greater brain activities were detected in the left inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) and dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC) among subjects with AUD compared to the controls during the exposure to anger-provoking stimuli. Despite the same level of subjective anger during anger induction, the greater activations both in the IFG and dACC regions may suggestthat individuals with AUD have a greater propensity to undergo cognitive control and self-regulation while experiencing anger.

Kikuchi's disease is a self-limiting benign disease characterized by cervical lymphadenopathy, but it can be mistaken for malignant disease, and when involved lymph nodes are unusually located, diagnosis can be more difficult. The authors report the case of a 19-year-old man with Kikuchi's disease, who had isolated intra-abdominal lymphadenopathy and increased 18-fluoro-deoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT). Although its incidence is extremely rare, intra-abdominal Kikuchi's disease with increased FDG uptake in PET-CT image should be considered in the differential diagnosis when constitutional symptoms mimic those of malignant lymphoma.

Multiple vertebral compression fractures are a rare condition and are a serious consequence of postpartum osteoporosis. This report describes the case of a 35-year-old woman who had given birth to her first child 2 months before the onset of pain. Magnetic resonance imaging showed compression fractures of 7 vertebrae. The patient was treated with both conventional, and Korean medicine methods including acupuncture and herbal prescriptions. The patient's progress was assessed using self-reported symptoms, scale scores and laboratory test results. Her pain was gradually alleviated and biochemical inflammation marker levels improved, but her functional status remained severely impaired. Clinical practitioners who treat women in the postpartum period must be aware of osteoporosis and potential vertebral fractures and need to consider Korean medicine as an alternative therapy to help such patients.

자체 설계 및 제작된 개방단말 동축선 프로브를 이용하여 마른 모래의 복소 유전율을 측정하였다. 프로브의 간단한 교정 방안으로 순수한 물에 대해 측정된 반사계수와 수치계산한 반사계수간의 위상차를 모래에 대해 측정된 반사계수의 위상에 뺐다. 그 다음 마른 모래에 대해 측정된 반사계수를 개선된 가상의 동축선 모델에 대입하여 복소 유전율을 환산하였다. 동일한 마른 모래에 대해 측정된 정확한 측정자료와 비교함으로써 본 측정방법의 정확성을 입증하였다.

The purpose of present study was to examine the differences in effectiveness of internet apparel advertising using avatars as determined by the avatar involvement. After conducting a pilot test for 35 high school students, final data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire survey from 324 high school students living in Seoul area from July 18 to July 19, 2003; 317 were used for data analysis. Data were analyzed by chi-square analysis, t-test, cluster analysis, descriptive statistics, ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test. As a result, the subjects were divided into 3 groups based on the level of avatar involvement: high, middle and low involvement groups. There were significant differences in avatar advertising effects among the groups divided by avatar involvement. Those who indicated the higher levels of avatar involvement were more likely to be positive in the cognitive responses, emotional responses, advertising attitude, brand attitude, the stimulus degree of connection, and the recall rates of the brand name. Also, Vector imaging ads were found to be more effective in the brand name recall rates.

In this paper, we propose a new architecture of Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks(FPNN) by means of genetically optimized Fuzzy Polynomial Neuron(FPN) and discuss its comprehensive design methodology involving mechanisms of genetic optimization, especially Genetic Algorithms(GAs). The conventional FPNN developed so far are based on mechanisms of self-organization and evolutionary optimization. The design of the network exploits the extended Group Method of Data Handling(GMDH) with some essential parameters of the network being provided by the designer and kept fixed throughout the overall development process. This restriction may hamper a possibility of producing an optimal architecture of the model. The proposed FPNN gives rise to a structurally optimized network and comes with a substantial level of flexibility in comparison to the one we encounter in conventional FPNNs. It is shown that the proposed advanced genetic algorithms based Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks is more useful and effective than the existing models for nonlinear process. We experimented with Medical Imaging System(MIS) dataset to evaluate the performance of the proposed model.

The authors treated a 30-years old female patient who visited the Department of Oral Medicine, PNUH due to the chief complaint of limitation of mouth opening. The magnetic resonance imaging following clinical examination was used for establishing an accurate and reliable diagnosis and the patient was diagnosed as having anterior disc displacement without reduction in the right joint and anterior disc displacement with reduction in the left joint. For managing acute anterior disc displacement without reduction, mandible manipulation was applied first focusing on pain control and then stabilization appliance was used for maintenance of joint stabilization. With time, the sign and symptom was remarkably reduced and an active exercise program was recommended to maintain of normal muscle length, increase joint range of motion and develop normal coordination arthrokinematics. As a result of treatment, the patient did not complain discomfort of normal daily activities and it was difficult to consider that the displace disc was not reduced completely, but the improvement in range of motion and joint mobility were remarkably found. Therefore, an exercise program should be considered to maintain joint mobility and be effective as a self-care.
