  • The sandwich structure, consisting of a core and a face sheet, is used for lightweight structural application. Generally, cellular structures like honeycomb, foam, and lattice structures are utilized for the core. Among these, lattice structures have several advantages over other types of structures. In other studies, curved lattice structures were reported to have higher mechanical properties than straight structures by converting shear stresses acting on the structure into compressive stresses. Moreover, the addition of vertical struts can have a positive effect on the mechanical properties of the lattice structure. For the purpose, two lattice structures with Circle Arch (CC) and Circular Arch with a vertical column (CC_C) were studied, which were fabricated by using selective laser sintering was conducted. The result showed that CC_C has dramatic performance improvements in specific strength, modulus, and strain energy density compared to CC, confirming that vertical struts played a significant role in the lattice core. Finite element analysis was employed to determine the cause of the stress behavior of CC and CC_C. This study is expected to help design structurally superior lattice cores and sandwich structures.

  • The master pattern manufacturing process is one of the most important processes in jewelry industry because the process takes 20% of total jewelry manufacturing costs. The previous jewelry manufacturing process has many steps of "rough design${\leftrightarro}$ detailed drawing${\leftrightarro}$ wax pattern manufacturing ${\leftrightarro}$ lime soda flask mold manufacturing ${\leftrightarro}$ silver master pattern manufacturing ${\leftrightarro}$ mass production of wax pattern ${\leftrightarro}$ investment casting process ${\leftrightarro}$ final jewelry product." A novel process that reduces processing steps by using a rapid prototyping system (RP) has been suggested. The process is "3D CAD design ${\leftrightarro}$ DuraForm mold manufacturing by RP ${\leftrightarro}$ manufacturing master pattern by low melting alloy ${\leftrightarro}$ mass production of wax pattern ${\leftrightarro}$ investment casting process${\leftrightarro}$ final jewelry product." Molds are made with DuraForm powder, of which melting temperature is 19$0^{\circ}C$, by a selective laster sintering type RP. An alloy of Pb-Sn-Bi-Cd, of which melting temperature is $70^{\circ}C$, is casted in the DuraForm molds. Spheres and rings of diameter 20 mm are made by this process. The dimension deformation rate is less than 2%, and the post processing of the castings is convenient. The casting made by the suggested process can be used as a master pattern of jewelry products.of jewelry products.

  • Additive manufacturing is a state-of-the-art manufacturing process technology in which three-dimensional structures are fabricated by laminating two-dimensional sections of a structure using various materials such as plastic, ceramics, and metals. The additive manufacturing technology has the advantage of high design freedom, while the surface property (roughness) of the finished product varies depending on the process conditions, which necessitates performing a post-process after the products are manufactured. In this study, the surface roughness of a structure made of polyamide 12, which was manufactured by SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) and MJF (Multi Jet Fusion) process was compared. The processing condition was classified by the building orientation of structure as 0, 45, and 90 degrees, which is the angle between the analytical surface and the horizontal plane of the fabrication platform. Structures with a hole of various diameters ranging from 1mm to 10mm were manufactured and the hole characteristics (ratio of hole depth to diameter) and results of the specimens were compared. As a result of the surface characteristics analysis, the surface roughness value of the specimens manufactured with a building orientation of $45^{\circ}$ was the highest in both technologies. In the case of the through-hole structure fabrication, the shape was maintained with 5mm and 10mm diameter holes regardless of the building orientation, although the hole forming was difficult for the smaller holes.

  • Selective surface densification is a tool for improving the mechanical properties of PM steels, such that the requirements for highly loaded gears can be matched. This paper describes the manufacturing and the properties of a helical P/M gear. The gear performance was evaluated on a 3-shaft back to back test rig, on a load bearing test rig and on a sound test bench. The results of these tests are presented and compared to data obtained from solid steel gear with identical geometry and surface quality. This comparison indicates that P/M gears have a load bearing capacity and noise level which are both well comparable to solid steel gears.

  • Recently, vector map has developed, used in many domains, and in most cases vector map data contains confidential information which must be kept away from unauthorized users. Moreover, the manufacturing process of a vector map is complex and the maintenance of a digital map requires substantial monetary and human resources. This paper presents the selective encryption scheme based on polyline simplification methods for GIS vector map data protection to store, transmit or distribute to authorized users. Main advantages of our algorithm are random vertices and transformation processes but it still meets requirements of security by random processes, and this algorithm can be implement to many types of vector map formats.

  • The investment casting process is used frequently to manufacture precise and complex shape metal parts. The previous wax pattern manufacturing process takes long time and high costs because the process is performed by hands. In order to improve the wax manufacturing process, a new process is developed to manufacture the wax pattern by using a rapid prototyping system. A CastForm pattern is made by a Selective laser Sintering type RP with CastForm powder. The CastForm pattern is dipped in the melted wax liquid, and the melted wax penetrates into the pores of the CastForm pattern. Wax pattern is obtained after cooling the CastForm pattern slowly. A stainless steel part has been manufactured by the suggested process. By obtaining the suggested process the manufacturing time and costs are reduced largely and the accuracy is improved.

  • This paper presents the experimental results of hydrophobic surfaces developed using a stereolithography-based additive-manufacturing technique. The additive manufacturing technique can be used to manufacture objects with complex geometries from computer-aided design data. Several additive manufacturing methods, such as selective laser sintering, fused deposition modeling, stereolithography apparatus (SLA), and inkjet-based system, have been developed. The SLA is a form of three-dimensional printing technology used to create prototypes, patterns, and production parts in successive layers through photochemical processes. Light causes chemical monomers and oligomers to cross-link together to form objects composed of polymers. Moreover, this method is economical for fabricating surfaces with high output resolution and quality. Here, we fabricate various surfaces using different shapes using an SLA. The surfaces with micro-patterns are fabricated for 10 cases, including the biomimetic surface. The fabricated surfaces with various micro-patterns are evaluated for hydrophobicity performance based on the static contact angle. The contact angle is measured three times for each case, and the averaged value is used. The results indicate that the arrangements in a staggered structure have a larger contact angle than those in a line when the same micro-pattern is applied. Moreover, the mimetic surfaces exhibit more hydrophobic characteristics than those of artificial micro-patterns.

  • The use of 3D printing (Additive Manufacturing) technology has expanded from initial model production to the mass production of parts in the industrial field based on the continuous research and development of materials and process technology. As a representative polymer material for 3D printing, the polyamide-based material, which is one of the high-strength engineering plastics, is used mainly for manufacturing parts for automobiles because of its light weight and durability. In this study, the specimens were fabricated using Selective Laser Sintering, which has excellent mechanical properties, and the flexural characteristics were analyzed according to the temperature of the two types of polyamide 12 and glass bead reinforced PA12 materials. The test specimens were prepared in the directions of $0^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ based on the work platform, and then subjected to a flexural test in three test temperature environments of $-25^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, and $60^{\circ}C$. As a result, PA12 had the maximum flexural strength in the direction of $90^{\circ}$ at $-25^{\circ}C$ and $0^{\circ}$ at $25^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$. The glass bead-reinforced PA12 exhibited maximum flexural strength values at all test temperatures in the $0^{\circ}$ fabrication direction. The tendency of the flexural strength changes of the two materials was different due to the influence of the plane direction of the lamination layer depending on the type of stress generated in the bending test.
