Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is widely used as a method of removing nitrogen oxide in large-capacity thermal power generation systems. Uniform mixing of the injected ammonia and the inlet flue gas is very important to the performance of the denitrification reduction process in the catalyst bed. In the present study, a computational analysis technique was applied to the ammonia injection system design process of a denitrification facility. The applied model is the denitrification facility of an 800 MW class coal-fired power plant currently in operation. The flow field to be solved ranges from the inlet of the ammonia injection system to the end of the catalyst bed. The flow was analyzed in the two-dimensional domain assuming incompressible. The steady-state turbulent flow was solved with the commercial software named ANSYS-Fluent. The nozzle arrangement gap and injection flow rate in the ammonia injection system were chosen as the design parameters. A total of four (4) cases were simulated and compared. The root mean square of the NH3/NO molar ratio at the inlet of the catalyst layer was chosen as the optimization parameter and the design of the experiment was used as the base of the optimization algorithm. The case where the nozzle pitch and flow rate were adjusted at the same time was the best in terms of flow uniformity.
In order to increase the usability of H2-SCR, the NOx removal characteristics with catalyst powder of PtNi/CeO2-W-TiO2 using Ce as a co-catalyst was synthesized and coated on a porous metal structure (PMS) were evaluated. Catalyst powder of PtNi/CeO2-W-TiO2(PtNi nanoparticles onto W-TiO2, with the incorporation of ceria (CeO2) as a co-catalysts) was synthesized and coated onto a porous metal structure (PMS) to produce a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst. H2-SCR with CeO2 as a co-catalyst exhibited higher NOx removal efficiency compared to H2-SCR without CeO2. Particularly, at a 10wt% CeO2 loading ratio, the NOx removal efficiency was highest at 90℃. As the amount of catalyst coating on PMS increased, the NOx removal efficiency was improved below 90℃, but it was decreased above 120℃. When the space velocity was changed from 4,000 h-1 to 20,000 h-1, the NOx removal efficiency improved at temperatures above 120℃. It was expected that the use of the catalyst could be reduced by applying the PMS with excellent specific surface area as a support.

Research on exhaust aftertreatment devices to reduce air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions is being actively conducted. However, in the case of the particulate matters/nitrogen oxides (PM/NOx) simultaneous reduction device for ships, the problem of back pressure on the diesel engine and replacement of the filter carrier is occurring. In this study, for the optimal design of the integrated device that can simultaneously reduce PM/NOx, an appropriate standard was presented by studying the flow inside the device and change in back pressure through the inlet/outlet pressure. Ansys Fluent was used to apply porous media conditions to a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) by setting porosity to 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, and 70%. In addition, the ef ect on back pressure was analyzed by applying the inlet velocity according to the engine load to 7.4 m/s, 10.3 m/s, 13.1 m/s, and 26.2 m/s as boundary conditions. As a result of a computational fluid dynamics analysis, the rate of change for back pressure by changing the inlet velocity was greater than when inlet temperature was changed, and the maximum rate of change was 27.4 mbar. This was evaluated as a suitable device for ships of 1800kW because the back pressure in all boundary conditions did not exceed the classification standard of 68mbar.
The selective catalytic reduction system is a highly effective technique for the denitrification of the flue gases emitted from the industrial facilities. The distribution of mixing ratio between ammonia and nitrogen oxide at the inlet of the catalyst layers is important to the efficiency of the de-NOx process. In this study, computational analysis tools have been applied to improve the uniformity of NH3/NO molar ratio by controlling the flow rate of the ammonia injection nozzles according to the distribution pattern of the nitrogen oxide in the inlet flue gas. The root mean square of NH3/NO molar ratio was chosen as the optimization parameter while the design of experiment was used as the base of the optimization algorithm. As the inlet conditions, four (4) types of flow pattern were simulated; i.e. uniform, parabolic, upper-skewed, and random. The flow rate of the eight nozzles installed in the ammonia injection grid was adjusted to the inlet conditions. In order to solve the two-dimensional, steady, incompressible, and viscous flow fields, the commercial software ANSYS-FLUENT was used with the k-𝜖 turbulence model. The results showed that the improvement of the uniformity ranged between 9.58% and 80.0% according to the inlet flow pattern of the flue gas.

The Urea-SCR system commercialized shows a remarkable performance to reduce NOx emission in heavy duty diesel engines. However, Urea-water solution injected upstream a mixer, which is set up inside a exhaust pipe to promote exhaust gas-atomized droplet mixing, bumps up against the wall of a exhaust pipe as the droplets flow downstream through the exhaust gas. The urea deposited on the wall of the exhaust pipe is changed into the Urea-salt, resulting in the decreased life-time of the SCR catalysts. Therefore, the development of the urea deposition avoidance technologies is being treated as an important issue of the Urea-SCR systems. An experimental study was carried out to investigate the effects of the wall flow characteristics around the mixer-housing assembly with the variation of the mixer housing surrounding and supporting the mixer, which is designed to increase the wall flow and then to reduce droplet deposition. The flow characteristics was investigated by using a hot-wire anemometry for 2-D simplified duct model, and the housing tilt angles and the position of the mixer were changed : angle of $0^{\circ}$, $1^{\circ}$, $2^{\circ}$, $3^{\circ}$, and mixer positions of 0L, 0.5L, 1L. The results showed that the wall flow onto the exhaust pipe was improved with changing the tilt angle of the mixer housing, and the wall flow improved more when the position of the mixer was on 1L.

The NOx conversion properties of Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ and $V_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ catalysts were studied for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with ammonia. The performance of the catalysts was investigated in terms of their $NOx$ conversion activity as a function of the reaction temperature and space velocity. The activity of the Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ catalyst decreased with increasing reaction temperature and space velocity. However, the activity of the $V_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ catalyst increased with increasing reaction temperature. High activity of the Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ catalyst was observed at temperatures below $200^{\circ}C$. H2-TPR and XPS analyses were conducted to explain these results. It was found that the activity of the Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ catalyst was influenced by the thermal shock caused by the change of the initial reaction temperature, whereas the $V_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ catalyst was not affected by the initial reaction temperature. In the case of catalyst C, the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency decreased with increasing space velocity. The decrease in the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency with increasing space velocity was much less for catalyst D than for catalyst C.
Harmful air pollutants are exhausted from the various industrial facilities including the coal-fired thermal power plants and these substances affects on the human health as well as the nature environment. In particular, nitrogen oxides ($NO_x$) and sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$) are known to be causative substances to form fine particles ($PM_{2.5}$), which are also deleterious to human health. The integrated system composed of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) have been widely applied in order to control $NO_x$ and $SO_2$ emissions, resulting in high investment and operational costs, maintenance problems, and technical limitations. Recently, new technologies for the simultaneous removal of $NO_x$ and $SO_2$ from the flue gas, such as absorption, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), non-thermal plasma (NTP), and electron beam (EB), are investigated in order to replace current integrated systems. The proposed technologies are based on the oxidation of $NO_x$ and $SO_2$ to $HNO_3$ and $H_2SO_4$ by using strong aqueous oxidants or oxidative radicals, the absorption of $HNO_3$ and $H_2SO_4$ into water at the gas-liquid interface, and the neutralization with additive reagents. In this paper, we summarize the technical improvements of each simultaneous abatement processes and the future prospect of technologies for demonstrating large-scaled applications.

Diesel vehicles should be equipped with urea-selective catalytic reduction(SCR) system as a high-performance catalyst, in order to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide emissions. In this study, a three-dimensional Eulerian-Lagrangian CFD analysis was used to numerically predict the multiphase flow characteristics of the urea-SCR system, coupled with the chemical reactions of the system's transport phenomena. Then, the numerical spray structure was modified by comparing the results with the measured values from spray visualization, such as the injection velocity, penentration length, spray radius, and sauter mean diameter. In addition, the analysis results were verified by comparison with the removal efficiency of the nitrogen oxide emissions during engine and chassis tests, resulting in accuracy of the relative error of less than 5%. Finally, a verified CFD analysis was used to calculate the interanl flow of the urea-SCR system, thereby analyzing the characteristics of pressure drop and velocity increase, and predicting the uniformity index and overdistribution positions of ammonia.
We investigated vanadium (V) loading effects on selective catalytic reduction (SCR) activity and $SO_2$ resistance using commercial SCR catalysts applied on a power plant and incinerator with different amounts of V loading. These catalysts were characterized using XRD, Raman, ICP, BET analysis and found to contain $TiO_2$ (anatase) supported $V_2O_5$ added $WO_3$ and $SiO_2$. The SCR activity of the catalysts increased by increasing either the $V_2O_5$ or the $WO_3$ loading amounts; the SCR activity of the catalysts added $WO_3$ is higher than that of $WO_3$-free catalysts. As the V loading amount in the catalyst increased, the $SO_2$ durability decreased. The $V_2O_5$ supported $TiO_2$ catalyst added $WO_3$ and $SiO_2$ inhibits the deactivation process by $SO_2$. The $SO_2$ resistance of catalysts added $SiO_2$ is higher than that of catalysts added $WO_3$.
Selective catalytic reduction(SCR) catalysts are obtained from de-NOx system of thermoelectric power plant. A process was developed for valuable metals such as vanadium and tungsten recovery from spent SCR catalyst by using soda roasting followed by water leaching. Spent SCR catalyst having $V_2O_5$(1.23 mass %) and $WO_3$(7.73 mass %). For getting soluble metal forms of the targeted metals like vanadium and tungsten soda roasting process was implemented. In soda roasting process, sodium carbonate added 5 equivalent ratio at roasted temperature $850^{\circ}C$ with 120 min roasted time for $544{\mu}m$ particle size of spent SCR catalyst. After soda roasting process moved to water leaching for roasted spent catalyst. Before leaching process the roasted spent catalyst was grinded up to $-45{\mu}m$ size. The leaching time is 30 min at $40^{\circ}C$ temperature, 10 % pulp density. The final leaching efficiency obtained 46 % of vanadium and 92 % of tungsten from present process.
