  • The aim of this study is to know the GPS absolute positioning accuracy after discontinuing of Selective Availability (SA). The GPS satellite clock errors and the observation station coordinates were calculated using GPS C/A code pseudorange and compared with the JPL precise ephemerides and the previous known coordinates. As the results, the correction or the GPS clock errors in SA-on is about $\pm$40m but in SA-off $\pm$2m. The 95% probable errors for the measurements in SA-on are about $\pm$65m but in SA-off $\pm$10m in X, Y and SA-off $\pm$15m in Z.

  • Nanostructured materials have attracted considerable research interest over the recent decades because of their potential applications in nanoengineering and nanotechnology. On the other hand, the developments in nanotechnology are strongly dependent on the availability of new materials with novel and engineered morphologies. Among the novel nanomaterials reported thus far, composite nanofibers (NFs) have attracted considerable attention in recent years. In particular, metal oxide NFs have great potential for the development of gas sensors. Highly sensitive and selective gas sensors can be developed by using composite NFs owing to their large surface area and abundance of grain boundaries. In composite NFs, gas sensing properties can be enhanced greatly by tailoring the conduction channel and surface properties by compositional modifications using the synergistic effects of different materials and forming heterointerfaces. This review focuses on the gas sensing properties of composite NFs synthesized by an electrospinning (ES) method. The synthesis of the composite NFs by the ES method and the sensing mechanisms involved in different types of composite NFs are presented along with the future perspectives of composite NFs.

  • 2-Aminothiazole ring as a bioisoster of catechol in dopamine has provided with good oral availability and lipophilic property. 2-Aminoindan, is a rigid form of dopamine, was evaluated as a dopamine D3 agonist with low neurotoxicity. Dopamine D3 agonist was evaluated as selective for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. In order to develop a novel dopamine D3 agonist, we tried to synthesize the aminothiazoloindenoxazine derivative that is a hybrid structure of aminoindenoxazine and thiazole ring. cis-2-Amino-1-indanol (2) was synthesized from 1,2-indandione-2-oxime by catalytic hydrogenation and it was treated with chloroacetyl chloride and NaH in benzene solution to give (${\pm}$)-cis-4,4a,5,9b-tetrahydroindeno[1,2-b][1,4]oxazin-3(2H)-one (6). Nitration of 6 by the mixed acid gave 8-nitro compound (7) and the carbonyl group of 7 was reduced with $LiAlH_4$ to afford compound (8). 8 was reduced to form (${\pm}$)-cis-8-amino-2,3,4,4a,5,9b-hexahydroindeno[1,2-b][1,4]oxazine (9) and finally it was cyclized with KSCN in glacial acetic acid to yield (${\pm}$)-cis-8-amino-2,3,4,4a,5,10b-hexahydrothiazolo[4,5-f]indeno[1,2-b][1,4]oxazine (10).

  • Autophagy targets cytoplasmic cargo to a lytic compartment for degradation. Autophagy-related (Atg) proteins, including the transmembrane protein Atg9, are involved in different steps of autophagy in yeast and mammalian cells. Functional classification of core Atg proteins in plants has not been clearly confirmed, partly because of the limited availability of reliable assays for monitoring autophagic flux. By using proUBQ10-GFP-ATG8a as an autophagic marker, we showed that autophagic flux is reduced but not completely compromised in Arabidopsis thaliana atg9 mutants. In contrast, we confirmed full inhibition of auto-phagic flux in atg7 and that the difference in autophagy was consistent with the differences in mutant phenotypes such as hypersensitivity to nutrient stress and selective autophagy. Autophagic flux is also reduced by an inhibitor of phosphatidylinositol kinase. Our data indicated that atg9 is phenotypically distinct from atg7 and atg2 in Arabidopsis, and we proposed that ATG9 and phosphatidylinositol kinase activity contribute to efficient autophagy in Arabidopsis.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the applicability of GPS data for real-time traffic information collection especially after SA removal. Two major results have been reported. One is the GPS data availability and/or useful data point density for travel time estimation using Circle-X algorithm. 87.23% of data points can be mobilized after SA whereas only 29.94% of data was useful in calculating travel time. The other is the possible reduction of the buffer size that is used for screening the points of all GPS into useful and useless data, respectively. With these outcomes, it is safely expected that the regular GPS alone can provide the data points for real-time travel time estimation instead of the more expensive DGPS system.

  • Background: Forest edges create distinctive ecological space as adjacent constituents, which distinguish between different ecosystems or land use types. These edges are made by anthropogenic or natural disturbance and affects both abiotic and biotic factors gradually. This study was carried out to assess edge effects on disturbed landscape at the pine-dominated clear-cut area in a genetic resources reserve in Uljin-gun, eastern Korea. This study aims to estimate the distance of edge influence by analyzing changes of abiotic and biotic factors along the distance from forest edge. Further, we recommend forest management strategy for sustaining healthy forest landscapes by reducing effects of deforestation. Results: Distance of edge effect based on the abiotic factors varied from 8.2 to 33.0 m. The distances were the longest in $Mg^{2+}$ content and total nitrogen, $K^+$, $Ca^{2+}$ contents, canopy openness, light intensity, air humidity, $Na^+$ content, and soil temperature followed. The result based on biotic factors varied from 6.8 to 29.5 m, coverage of tree species in the herb layer showed the longest distance and coverage of shrub plant in the herb layer, evenness, species diversity, total coverage of herb layer, and species richness followed. As the result of calculation of edge effect by synthesizing 26 factors measured in this study, the effect was shown from 11.0 m of the forest interior to 22.4 m of the open space. In the result of stand ordination, Rhododendron mucronulatum, R. schlippenbachii, and Fraxinus sieboldiana dominated arrangement of forest interior sites and Quercus mongolica, Vitis amurensis, and Rubus crataegifolius dominated spatial distribution of the open area plots. Conclusions: Forest interior habitat lies within the influence of both abiotic and biotic edge effects. Therefore, we need a forest management strategy to sustain the stability of the plant and further animal communities that depend on its stable conditions. For protecting forest interior, we recommend selective logging as a harvesting method for minimizing edge effects by anthropogenic disturbance. In fact, it was known that selective logging contributes to control light availability and wind regime, which are key factors affecting microclimate. In addition, ecological restoration applying protective planting for the remaining forest in the clear-cut area could contribute to prevent continuous disturbance in forest interior.

  • One of the most serious problems faced by billions of people today is the availability of fresh water. According to statistics, 15% of the world's total output of dye products is discharged into the environment as dye wastewater, which seriously pollutes groundwater resources. For the treatment of chemically and biologically contaminated water the advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) shows the promising action. The main advantage with AOPs is the ability to degrade the organic pollutants to $CO_2$ and $H_2O$. For this degradation process the AOPs generation of powerful and non-selective radicals that may oxidize majority of the organic pollutants present in the water body. To generate the various reactive chemical species such as radicals (${\bullet}OH$, ${\bullet}H$, ${\bullet}O$, ${\bullet}HO_2$) and molecular species ($H_2O_2$, $H_2$, $O_2$) in large amount in water, we have used the atmospheric pressure plasma. Among the reactive and non-reactive species, the hydroxyl radical (${\bullet}OH$) plays important role due to its higher oxidation potential (E0: 2.8 V). Therefore, in this work we have checked the degradation of various dyes such as methyl orange, methylene blue and congo red using different type of atmospheric pressure plasma sources (Indirect jet and direct jet). To check the degradation we have used the UV-visible spectroscopy, HPLC and LC-MS spectroscopy. Further, to estimate role of ${\bullet}OH$ on the degradation of dyes we have studied the molecular dynamic simulation.

  • Nitric oxide(NO) is a potent and selective pulmonary artery vasodilator. Erythropoietin(EPO) is produced in the kidney in response to reduced oxygen availability. In this study, blood samples were collected for determination of NO and EPO concentrations in 18 normal newborns and 16 newborns with respiratory distress syndrome(RDS). Serum was measured by Ding's method for NO concentration and by enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay for EPO concentration. Nitric ion concentration in serum was 14.9$\pm$3.2 $\mu$M in normal control group and 12.8$\pm$3.3 $\mu$M in RDS group. EPO concentration in serum was 16.2$\pm$3.4 mU/ml in normal control group and 21.2$\pm$5.4 mU/ml in RDS group. These results show the decrease of NO and increase of EPO in RDS newborn patients in comparison with normal newborns. Such imbalances may contribute to the development of several clinical symptoms.

  • W/O and O/W emulsions of tegafur (50 mg/5 ml/kg) were orally administered to rats to compare with their mesenteric lymphatic delivery effects. And also in order to demonstrate the lymph targeting associated to the oral route, it was deemed necessary to investigate the fate of solution after oral administration as a control. Lymph and plasma samples were periodically taken from each subject of mesenteric lymphatic duct cannulated rats. Then, lymph and plasma levels of tegafur and its active metabolite, 5-FU, were simultaneously observed. Also pharmacokinetic parameters were compared with each others. On the other hand, most previous studies of lymphatic transport have not addressed the question of whether an increase in mesenteric or thoracic lymph transport by the manipulation of a suspected variable was due to a selective delivery to the intestinal lymphatics or an overall increase availability. Therefore, based on a physiologically based pharmacokinetic model which represents the characteristics of lymphatic systems, we are also going to determine the contributions of mesenteric lymph transport versus thoracic lymph transport of tegafur reported in reference(13). In comparison with tegafur solution, AUC and mean residence time of plasma tegafur were significantly increased in W/O emulsion but significantly decreased in O/W emulsion. Lymph flow rates were similar in both solution and W/O emulsion but half in O/W emulsion. AUC of tegafur in mesenteric lymph and in plasma for W/O emulsion were 3.7 times and 2.9 times more than those for O/W emulsion, respectively. And AUC of 5-FU in thoracic lymph for W/O emulsion was 3.7 times more than that for O/W emulsion. These results suggested that lymphatic delivery or tegafur by W/O emulsion was more effective than that by on emulsion due to its differences or formation ability of chylomicrons.

  • After USA removed the Selective Availability (SA), Global Positioning System (GPS) has monopolized the world market and other countries have been depended on GPS, absolutely. So the other countries, Russia, European Community (EC) and Japan, which apprehend to monopolize in technical and strategic parts, are developing the next generation GNSS including GLONASS Galileo and JRANS. And the countries are planning to provide the another GNSS. This research has focused on the next generation GNSS system based on GPS and Galileo system with developing a GNSS simulation software, named as GlMS2005, which generates and analyzes satellite constellation and measurements. Based on the software, a variety of simulation tests have been carried out to recognize limits of GPS-only system and potential benefits of integrated GPS/Galileo positioning in terms of satellite geometry strength and solution accuracy.
