  • The performance of electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings is affected by electrode type, electronic parameters such as filtering, amplification, signal conversion, data storage; and environmental conditions. However, no single method has been identified for optimal EEG recording quality in all situations. Therefore, we aimed to provide general principles for EEG electrode selection as well as electronic noise reduction, and to present comprehensive information regarding the acquisition of satisfactory EEG signals. The standards provided in this document may be regarded as Korean guidelines for the clinical recording of EEG data. The equipment, types and nomenclature of electrodes, and the details for EEG recording are discussed.

  • Since the year of 2006 when the extended revision of the Codex Classification of Foods and Animal Feeds was undertaken, considerable progresses have been made in revising the Classification. This paper aimed to summarize the present status on revision of the Codex Classification of Foods and Animal Feeds, focusing remarkable achievements such as 1) the draft revision of the Codex Classification for the fruit commodity group and 2) the draft Principles and Guidance on the Selection of Representative Commodities for the Extrapolation of Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides to Commodity Groups, adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission in 2012. Additionally, it included information on lists of crop group or subgroup which are holding at Step 7 and were adopted at Step 5, and further have not been yet discussed by the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues. These information will be very helpful for a pesticide regulatory regime.

  • The findings from this study are summarized as follows : 1. It is questionable to define the term "Hanja" as "the Chinese Character used independently or used along with Hangul. 2. It is found to be a problem that the validity and objectivity in the selection of Hanja are lacking. 3. It is also a problem that there is neither principles nor consistency in styling of characters. 4. The system of arrangement has problems, too. The adoption of arrangement of Hanja by its Korean pronunciation results in lots of errors and mistakes. Besides, mistaken strokes and radicals produced considerable errors in the arrangement of Hanja. 5. The omission of the abbreviated Hanja in the Code can be considered to neglect the current trend of increased use of them. 6. The issue concerned with the Japanese-origin Hanja is that several number of Hanja deemed unnecessary are included.y are included.

  • This paper presents a new approach to evaluate reliability indices of electric distribution systems using genetic Algorithm (GA). The use of reliability evaluation is an important aspect of distribution system planning and operation to adjust the reliability level of each area. In this paper, the reliability model is based on the optimal load transforming problem to minimize load generated load point outage in each sub-section. This approach is one of the most difficult procedures and become combination problems. A new approach using GA was developed for this problem. GA is a general purpose optimization technique based on principles inspired from the biological evolution using metaphors of mechanisms such as natural selection, genetic recombination and survival of the fittest. Test results for the model system with 24 nodes 29 branches are reported in the paper.

  • Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has several advantages over conventional open surgery. Less pain, less morbidity, early recovery and better cosmetic outcomes are well-known benefits of MIS. However, indications of MIS are highly dependent on the experience of surgeon and the disease status, In the benign diseases with less surgical complexity, MIS can be performed relatively and safely. However. in advanced malignant diseases which require more complex surgical manipulation, the of patients and the principles of oncologic surgery should be considered before the selection of surgical methods, MIS would be performed more and more with aid or technologic advancement. However, long-term result with equivalent oncologic outcomes to open surgery is necessary to be one of standard surgical treatments in thoracic surgery.

  • Grinding is considered as a very effective machining technology to attain the good surface quality of a components. However, the grinding operation still needs the skill and experience of an operator because of a lack of scientific and engineering principles. Therefore, recent development focus on expert systems which deal with domain specific knowledge in order to solve this problem. This paper describes an expert system for selecting the optimism grinding wheel by using the fuzzy reasoning and operation conditions in grinding. By the system unskilled workers will be able to make use of the knowledge and experience of skilled workers. The system is consist of programs that, (1) selection of the best wheel form among avairable wheel by using fuzzy reasoning, (2) determine wheel depth of cut, feed and wheel speed for grinding, work speed, and dressing condition. The developed system perform in using the CLIPS as a software tool and run under the IBM PC/AT as a hardware tool.

  • Genetic algorithm is an efficient search method using principles of natural selection and population genetics. In conventional genetic algorithms, however, the size of gene pool should be increased to insure a convergency. Therefore, many memory spaces and much computation time were needed. Also, since child chromosomes were generated by chromosome crossover and gene mutation, the algorithms have a complex structure. Thus, in this paper, a compact stereo matching algorithm using a population-based incremental teaming based on probability vector is proposed to reduce these problems. The PBIL method is modified for matching environment. Since the Proposed algorithm uses a probability vector and eliminates gene pool, chromosome crossover, and gene mutation, the matching algorithm is simple and the computation load is considerably reduced. Even if the characteristics of images are changed, stable outputs are obtained without the modification of the matching algorithm.

  • Passive treatment systems are commonly used for remediation of mine drainage waters because they do not require continuous chemical inputs and operation. In this study, the selection and design criteria for such systems were evaluated, particularly the two most commonly used ones, i.e., permeable reactive barriers (PRBs) and vertical flow biological reactors (VFBRs). PRBs and VFBRs are operated on the same principles in terms of biochemical reaction mechanisms, whereas differences relate to configuration, engineering, and water management. In this study, each of these systems were described with respect to key design variables, such as metal removal mechanisms and removal rates, effectiveness and longevity, general design and construction, flow capacity, and cost. The information provided from this study could be used as a design guideline when a passive treatment option is considered for potential remediation of a mine site.

  • The discretization algorithms for continuous data have been actively studied in the area of data mining. These discretizations are very important in data analysis, especially for efficient model selection in data mining. So, in this paper, we introduce the principles of some mutiway discretization algorithms including KEX, 1R and CN4 algorithm and investigate the efficiency of these algorithms through numerical study. For various underlying distribution, we compare these algorithms in view of misclassification rate.
