  • In this paper, a study was made of the technology used to measure the remaining amount of energy in secondary cells, for which demand is ever increasing. First, the standard data were stored for measurement of the remaining energy and a compare/analysis algorithm was developed. Next, hardware was designed and a prototype that can display the SOC(State Of Charge) through an LCD displayinstrument was created. The small size of the prototype allows it to be portable and its performance is within ${\pm}4$[%].

  • This study set out to investigate the challenges to science teacher's teaching practices in the Anglophone sub-system of education in Cameroon secondary schools. A sample of 331 of these teachers was selected using the purposive sampling method. Data was collected by use of a questionnaire and was subjected to inferential analysis. The major findings from the multiple regression were challenges associated with the size and management of a science class have an effect on the teaching practices of a science teacher. However, challenges with availability of instructional resources did not have an effect on science teaching practices. Recommendations to solve the identified drawbacks include the provision of more classrooms to accommodate the ever growing population of students and the organization of many seminars through which teachers could be educated on how to handle classroom problems and improvise when necessary.

  • Steady state flow calculations are conducted for the newly-designed turbo-pump inducers to validate the performance of Tascflow code. Hydrodynamic performance is evaluated, and structures of the passage flow and leading edge recirculation are also investigated. The calculated results show good coincidence with the experimental data of the static pressure performance and velocity profiles near the leading edge. Upstream recirculation, tip leakage and vortex flow at the blade tip and near leading edge are main sources of pressure losses. Amount of pressure losses from the upstream to the leading edge corresponds to that of pressure losses through the whole blade. The total viscous losses are considerably large due to the strong secondary flow.

  • This study aims to explore secondary students' thinking while doing proof in geometry. Two secondary students were interviewed and the interview data were analyzed. The results of the analysis suggest that the two students similarly showed as follows: a) tendencies to use the rules of congruent and similar triangles to solve a given problem, b) being confused about the rules of similar and congruent triangles, and c) being confused about the definitions, partition and hierarchical classification of quadrilaterals. Also, the results revealed that a relatively low achieving student has tendency to rely on intuitive information such as visual representations.

  • In cognitive radios, exponentially distributed idle period(EIP) is considered in this paper. In the EIP case, durations of idle periods are be limited and varied by primary traffic arrivals. Accordingly, we first analyze the idle period utilization which can be achieved by the slotted ALOHA in cognitive radio communications. The idle period utilization is a newly defined performance metric to measure the transmission performance of the secondary network as effective time durations utilized for successful secondary transmissions in an idle period. Then, the idle period utilization is maximized through controlling the data transmission time. All technical processes are mathematically analyzed and expressed as closed form solutions.

  • In this study, we presented a method to inspect the mechanical defects of 4680 type lithium-ion batteries through image processing method. The raw X-ray images are filtered with CLAHE, then Radon inverse transformations are calculated to reconstruct 3D computed tomography of the battery. Using Haar-cascade, the ROI is targeted automatically, and the template matchings are applied twice. The variations of contrast between template and background show the appropriate values for detecting tabs. It was shown that the proposed algorithm can detect all the tab inside the battery and the distances between tabs. Finally, we successfully found the geometrical defects of battery.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the factors determining salary level of hospital. Methods: This study performed secondary analysis on the existing data. Data were collected from May 1, 2005 to September 30, 2005. Analysis of the results was carried out using SPSS win 12.0 program for t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression. Results: For the determinant factors on the level of nurse's salary, the R2 for this whole regression model was .72, indicating that approximately 72% of the variance in salary level of the nurses was accounted for by the linear combination of these three independent variables, the size of hospitals, the characteristics of a fund, and nursing delivery system. Conclusion: Salary is a major part of human resource management and is compensation for the labor of nurses and is a motive to nurses. Each hospital's salary needs to be more affordable to nurses.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine factors affecting quality of life among grandparents raising their grandchildren. Methods: This study carried out a secondary analysis of data from the 2014 Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA) and Statistics Korea. Data collected from 224 grandparents who reported raising their grandchildren were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, pearson correlation coefficient, and multilevel regression analysis. Results: The mean score of the participants' quality of life was 62.63. Significant predictors of quality of life of the grandparents included subjective health status, last year's total house income, number of last year's travels, frequency of last year's movie seeing, and number of children's parks per 100,000 population. Conclusion: These results suggest that public health nurses in improving quality of life of grandparents focus on children's parks and formal social supports as community factors as well as regular exercise as an individual factor in order to be more effective.

  • Purpose: This study investigated the mediating effect of perceived stress in the relationship between subjective health and depression in patients with coronary artery disease. Methods: This secondary analysis study used data from the 2016-2018 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). Study participants included 466 patients over 20 years of age with coronary artery disease. Measures included questions about general characteristics, subjective health, perceived stress, and depression. The data were analyzed using complex sample design, descriptive analysis, Rao-Scott 2 statistic, and multivariate logistic regression analysis with the SPSS 24.0 program. Results: Subjective health influenced depression, and perceived stress partially mediated it. Conclusion: To prevent depression in patients with coronary artery disease, it is necessary to develop effective stress management strategies.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify factors related to osteoporosis prevalence in postmenopausal women. Methods: This study was a secondary analysis research using data from the Eighth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VIII-1), 2019, which were downloaded from the KNHANES website. The subjects of this study were 1,791 postmenopausal women who participated in the KNHANES VIII-1, 2019. Data analysis was performed using the IBM SPSS 21.0 program and complex sample design analysis was performed considering factors such as weight, cluster, and strata. Results: Osteoporosis prevalence of in postmenopausal women was 17.5%. Factors related to osteoporosis prevalence were age (65~74 years old, ≥75 years old), house income (low), household type (one-person household), postmenopausal period (10~19 years), drinking (non-drinking). Conclusion: Interventions for osteoporosis prevention and management in postmenopausal women need to focus on women less than 10 years after menopause and one-person household women. Furthermore, it is necessary to expand bone density testing for the early detection of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
