Both Japan and Korea provide population-based screening programs. However, screening rates are much higher in Korea than in Japan. To clarify the possible factors explaining the differences between these two countries, we analyzed the current status of the cancer screening and background healthcare systems. Population-based cancer screening in Korea is coordinated well with social health insurance under a unified insurer system. In Japan, there are over 3,000 insurers and coordinating a comprehensive strategy for cancer screening promotion has been very difficult. The public healthcare system also has influence over cancer screening. In Korea, public healthcare does not cover a wide range of services. Almost free cancer screening and subsidization for medical cost for cancers detected in population-screening provides high incentive to participation. In Japan, on the other hand, a larger coverage of medical services, low co-payment, and a lenient medical audit enables people to have cancer screening under public health insurance as well as the broad range of cancer screening. The implementation of evidence-based cancer screening programs may be largely dependent on the background healthcare system. It is important to understand the impacts of each healthcare system as a whole and to match the characteristics of a particular health system when designing an efficient cancer screening system.
Owing to the rapid growth in automated manufacturing systems, screening inspection becomes an attractive practice for removing nonconforming items, and it has been suggested that inspection will essentially become an inherent part of modem manufacturing processes. In this paper, we propose rectifying screening inspections which allow quality practitioners to use performance and surrogate variables interchangeably in real-time applications. Two screening inspections are considered; a statistically-based screening inspection to reduce the current proportion of nonconforming items to a specified AOQ(average outgoing quality) after screening, and an economically-based screening inspection where the tolerance limit is determined so that the expected total cost is minimized. It is assumed that the performance variable and the surrogate variable are jointly normally distributed. For two screening inspections, methods of finding the optimal solutions are presented and numerical examples are also given.
Objective: Despite government efforts to increase participation in gastric cancer screening, the rate is still suboptimal in Korea. Therefore, we explored barriers to and predictors of gastric cancer screening participation among a nationally representative sample. Methods: We used the Health Interview Survey sub-dataset derived from the Fourth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2008 (KNHANES IV) to evaluate participation in gastric cancer screening and factors associated with attendance in individuals age ${\geq}40$ years. We enrolled 4,464 subjects who completed the questionnaire and were not previously diagnosed with gastric cancer. Four groups of factors were considered potential predictors of gastric cancer screening in a multivariate analysis: sociodemographic, health behavior, psychological and cognitive, and dietary factors. Results: Overall, 41.3% complied with the gastric cancer screening recommendations. Younger age, lower education level, living without a spouse, frequent binge drinker, and current smoker were significantly associated with less participation in gastric cancer screening. Conclusions: To improve participation in gastric cancer screening, more focused interventions should be directed to vulnerable populations, such as groups with low socioeconomic status or unhealthy behavior. In addition, there should be new promotional campaigns and health education to provide information targeting these vulnerable populations.
Due to large in-field current carrying capacity and strong mechanical strength, a REBCO wire has been regarded as a viable high temperature superconductor (HTS) option for high field MRI and > 1 GHz (>23.5 T) NMR magnets. However, a REBCO magnet is well known to have an inherent problem of field inhomogeneity, so-called 'Screening Current induced magnetic Field (SCF)'. Recently, 'field shaking' and 'current overshoot operation' techniques have been successfully demonstrated to mitigate the SCF and enhance the field homogeneity by experiments. To investigate the effectiveness of current overshooting operation technique, a numerical simulation is conducted for a test REBCO magnet composed of a stack of double pancake coils using '2D edge-element magnetic field formulation' combined with 'domain homogenization' scheme. The simulation result demonstrates that an appropriate amount of current overshoot can negate the SCF. To verify the simulation results, current overshoot experiments are conducted for the REBCO magnet in liquid nitrogen. Experimental results also demonstrate the possible application of current overshoot technique to mitigate the SCF and enhance the field homogeneity.

For the screening factor of the tunnel and overbridge structure in the electrified railway, the ITU-T regulation denotes only a theoretical estimation method, and the actual numeric values are notified differently by the official announcement of each nations. In this study, the factors which can affect the screening factor are investigated and analysed by FEM and a suitable calculation method based on multi-conductor line theory for the current pre-estimation formula for the induction noise voltage in the national notice is presented. The case studies are performed using the real data of the tunnel and the overbridge of the electrified railway, and a satisfactory formula for the determining of screening factor is derived.

The purpose of the study is to survey and identify the degree of cognition of women in their 20s in Korea for cervical cancer screening which has been expanded to those aged 20 as the age for the screening since January 2016, and to reveal its correlation with intention of screening. The responses to the questionnaire of the survey conducted on total 353 females in C region were collected for the data from Nov 1, 2017 to Nov 10, 2017. The frequency analysis, chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were conducted by utilizing 353 copies of the questionnaire. According to the result, only 129(36.5%) answered that they recognized the current system of cervical cancer screening. Besides, the intention of screening in case of recognizing the cervical cancer screening project was 1.63 times higher than when it is not the case. Therefore, it is required to raise the participation of screening of women in their 20s by intensifying education and promotion on cervical cancer screening for women who are not yet in their 20s in linkage with health care projects at schools.
The present study suggests ways to improve the Korean proficiency screening test through an analysis of WIDA tests. A review of WIDA Screener, WIDA MODEL, and W-APT reveals that each of these three tests consists of four or five tests, corresponding to grade-level clusters. In addition, the WIDA screening tests assess both English for social communication and academic English, according to WIDA's five English Language Development (ELD) standards. Thematic folders of the ELD standards have different ranges of item difficulty, and the WIDA screening tests are adaptive tests. Lastly, the writing tests consist of performance-based tasks, and the rubric is holistic. As suggestions for improvement for Korean screening tests of the KSL curriculum, this study proposes (a) to devise items to assess academic Korean, so as to evaluate students' overall proficiency more accurately, (b) to utilize an adaptive method to screen students' proficiency more efficiently, and (c) to revise the writing tasks and rubric of the current KSL screening tests.

After a short historical resume, screening is discussed on the basis of the current philosophy of Life insurance compaines in leading countries. This is followed by considerations with regard to the future in areas of major bearing on Life insurance screening which have emerged as important within the last decade. HIV-antibody testing is dealt with from the screening point of view followed by aspects regarding the applicability of tumour marker use in Life insurance medicine. Last but not least genetic testing will be addressed, taking into account prospects for the future, as well as the resulting responsibility in medical and underwriting terms. The major considerations and suggested guidelines can be summarized as follows: 1) Screening in Life insurance is a prerequisite for underwriting and is a well-functioning selection instrument. 2) Screening technologies are medically well defined and have to follow general clinical rules, also in the future. 3) Screening parameters should follow the patterns of diseases according to age and risk groups. 4) Screening parameters for prognostic use are legitimate as long as they are considered in conjuction with clinical medical observations and rules. 5) Screening technologies of a sensitive nature require very special rules for handling in the sense of "consequential ethies". 6) Screening parameters like HIV-antibody testing require ongoing scientific feedback in their new testing dimensions. 7) Screening in the form of genetic testing is as yet not used in Life insurance; its potential future role in Life insurfance medicine must, however, be discussed responsibly and in time. 8) Screening enables the insurance industry to rule out possible antiselection and provide for equal knowledge on the part of the insurance applicant and the insurer about impairements which shorten life expectancy. 9) Screening, informed consent, counselling and confidentiality must go hand in hand both now and to an even greater extent in the future.
The PTS reference temperature of reactor pressure vessel for one of the Korean NPPs has been predicted to exceed the screening criteria before it reaches it's design life. To cope with this issue, a plant-specific PTS analysis had been performed in accordance with the Regulatory Guide 1.154 in 1999. As a result of that analysis, it was found that current methodology of RG. 1.154 was very conservative. The objective of this study is to examine the effects of changing various input parameters and to determine the amount of conservatism of the current PTS analysis method. To do this, based on the past PTS analysis experience, parametric study were performed for various models using modified VISA-II code. This paper discusses the analysis results and recommendations to reduce the conservatism of current analysis method.
