In this study, a surface treatment method using accelerated Ar ions was experimented for exposing the carbon nanotubes (CNT) from the screen-printed CNT paste. After making a cathode electrode on the glass substrate, photo sensitive CNT paste was screen-printed, and then back-side was exposed by UV light. Then, the exposed CNT paste was selectively remained by development. After post-baking, the remained CNT paste was bombarded by accelerated Ar ions for removing some binders and exposing only CNTs. As results, the field emission characteristics were strongly depended on the accelerating energy, bombardment time, and the power of RF plasma ion source. When Ar ions accelerated with 100 eV energy from the 100 W RF plasma source are bombarded on the CNT paste surface for 10 min, the emission level and the uniformity were best.

A single use, screen-printed sensor for the measurement of liquid phase ethanol was developed and its electrochemical performance was investigated. Disposable type edthanol sensor was fabricated by serially screen printing the carbon paste, silverd pasted and insulator inlon a polyester substrate to pattern working and reference electrode sites and electrical contact. Alcohol dehydrogenase(ADH) or alcohol oxidase(AOD) together with appropriate electron transfer mediators was immobilized on the working electrode. To improve the sensitivity and reproducibility of carbon paste electrode, some pretreatment procedures were applied and their resultant electrochemical performance was examined. The disposable type electrochemical ethanol sensor developed in this study conveniently determines the ethanol in liquid samples such as blood and in fermentation process.
Disposable, amperometric glucose sensor was constructed using platinised carbon paste electrode. The sensor response was studied by amperometry and cyclic voltammetry applying sample solutions on the strip-type electrode. Platinization of screen-printed carbon paste electrode effectively improved the electrochemical reversibility of a mediator and the analytical characteristics of the sensor. The heterogeneous rate constant for $[Fe(CN)_6]^{4-/3-}$ was $1.45\times10^{-2}cm{\cdot}s^{-1}$. An applied potential of 0.3V vs. Ag/AgCl resulted in the best selectivity for glucose. The apparent Michaelis-Menten constant for glucose on the strip sensor, $K_m^{app}$, was 24.5 mM. To evaluate the analytical performance of the glucose sensor strip, a correlation study was performed with the NOVA S.P, Ultra M analyzer for 30 serum samples containing $80\~297mg/dL$ of glucose: the correlation coefficient value was 0.983. It can be seen that the strip sensor has satisfactory precision and accuracy.
The multi-wall carbon nano-tube composite mixed with carbon paste electrode presented more sensitive and selective amperometric signals in the oxidation of glucose than general screen-printed carbon electrodes(SPCEs). Redox mediators to transport electrodes from enzyme to electrodes are very important part in the biosensor. A novel osmium redox complex was synthesized by the coordinating pyridine group containing primary amines which were electrochemically immobilized onto the MWCNT-SPCEs surface. Electrochemical studies of osmium complexes were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry. The surface coverage of osmium complexes on the modified carbon nano-tube electrodes were significantly increased at 100 time (${\tau}_0=2.0\;{\times}\;10^{-9}\;mole/cm^2$) compared to that of the unmodified carbon electrodes. It's practical application of the glucose biosensor demonstrated that it shows good linear response to the glucose concentration in the range of 0-10 mM.
A surface treatment was performed after the screen printing of a carbon nanotube paste for obtaining the carbon nanotube field emission array(CNT FEA) on the soda-lime glass substrate. In this experiment, Ar ion bombardment was applied as an effective surface treatment method. After making a cathode electrode on the glass substrate, photo sensitive CNT paste was screen-printed, and then back-side was exposure by uv light. Then, the exposed CNT paste was selectively remained by development. After post-baking, the remained CNT paste was bombarded by accelerated Ar ions for removing some binders and exposing only CNTs. As results, the field emission characteristics were strongly depended on the accelerating energy. At 100 eV, the emission was highest and as the acceleration energy increases more then 100 eV, the emission decreased. This was due to the removal of CNT itself as well as binders.

The supercapacitors were fabricated using silver (Ag) nano paste and activated carbon paste on the polyimide (PI) film and 5% potassium polyacrylate (PAAK) was used for gel electrolyte. In this paper, the current collector film and the electrode film were fabricated using screen printing. The thickness of printed silver paste was $7.3{\mu}m$ and the sheet resistance has the range of $5-7m{\Omega}/square$. An activated carbon with a surface area of $1,968m^2/g$, an electronic conducting agent (SUPER P, TIMCAL) and poly (4-vinylphenol) were mixed in 2-(2-buthoxyethoxy) ethyl acetate (BCA) with a ratio of 7:1:3 to fabricate the electrode paste. To analyze electrochemical characteristics, cyclic voltammetry was performed to evaluate the stability of the devices under the voltage range of -0.5-0.5 V. The calculated specific capacitances were 44.04 and 8.62 F/g for 10 and 500 mV/s scan rates, respectively.
An activated carbon paste electrode was modified with the N-Hydroxysuccinimide(NHS) layer and applied to determine the dopamine in the presence of an excess ascorbic acid using square-wave voltammetry. The electrochemical properties of the modified electrode were examined in the solution containing dopamine/ascorbic acid using cyclic voltammetry(CV): the separation between the oxidation peaks of dopamine and ascorbic acid was largely dependent on the pH of the sample solution and became maximum at pH 4.0. Hence, the square-wave voltammetric determination of dopamine was carried out in a pH 4.0, 100mM phosphate buffer saline(PBS) containing 140mM NaCl. The detection limit and response slop were improved from $1.0{\mu}M\;to\;5.0\times10^{-2}{\mu}M\;and\;from\;0.93{\mu}A/{\mu}M\;to\;6.1{\mu}A/{\mu}M$, respectively, upon modification of the electrode surface by NHS.

In principle, the blood galactose level may be determined conveniently with a strip-type biosensor similar to that for glucose. In this study, we describe the development of a disposable galactose biosensor strip for point-of-care testing. The sensor strip is constructed with screen-printed carbon paste electrode (SPCE) and sample amount (< $100{\mu}L$). The developed strip the galactose level in less than 90 s using bienzymatic system of galactose oxidase (GAO) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP). The effects of pH, mediator (1,1-ferrocenedimethanol) concentration, ratio of enzymes, and applied potential were determined preliminarily with glassy carbon electrodes, and optimized further with the strip-type electrodes. The sensor exhibits linear response in the range of $0{\sim}400{\mu}M$ ($r^2$ = 0.997, S/N = 3). Since a low working potential, in principle, the fabricated disposable galactose biosensor has -100 mV (vs. Ag/AgCl), it is applied for the detection of galactose, interfering responses from common interferents such as ascorbic acid, uric acid and acetaminophen could be minimized. The sensor has been used to determine the total galactose level in standard samples with satisfactory reproducibility (CV = 5 %).
Trace analysis of Cd and Pb at surface modified thick film graphite electrode with Bi nanopowder has been carried out using square-wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) technique. Bi nanopowder synthesized by gas condensation (GC) method showed the size of $50{\sim}100$ nm with BET surface area, $A_{BET}=6.8m^{2}g^{-l}$. For a strong adhesion of the Bi nanopowder onto the screen printed carbon paste electrode, nafion solution was added into Bi-containing suspension. From the SWASV, it was found that the Bi nanopowder electrode exhibited a well-defined responses relating to the oxidations of Cd and Pb. The current peak intensity increased with increasing concentration of Cd and Pb. From the linear relationship between Cd/Pb concentrations and peak current, the sensitivity of the Bi nanopowder electrode was quantitatively estimated. The detection limit of the electrode was estimated to be $0.15{\mu}g/l$ and $0.07{\mu}g/l$ for Cd and Pb, respectively, on the basis of the signal-to-noise characteristics (S/N=3) of the response for the $1.0{\mu}g/l$ solution under a 10 min accumulation.
