  • Since the spine radiography were explained differently at every several hospitals and textbooks. the technique has not been accurately defined and interfered each other. We would like to define the most appropriate positioning for clinical cases, and reference books, by comparing scoliotic angle and lordotic angle. From Mar 2009 to Sep 2011, 85 patient cases were studied, who had not been undergone surgical treatment among spondylopathy patients. Scoliotic angle and lordotic angle were measured, using Cobb's method. We analyzed statistically using t-test(SPSS 18), and evaluated spine general radiography position. Moreover, we researched on the actual condition at 10 university hospitals in Seoul. The results of scoliotic angle measurement, the value at erect position showed 20.98% higher than supine position, and it has statistical significance (p<.01). In lordotic angle measurement, the value at neutral holding position represented 29.3% higher than supine position, and it also has statistical significance(p<.01). The results of clinical survey, supine posine(70.0%) took much higher possession than erect position(30.0%). In conclusion, compare to supine position, erect position shows increased scoliotic and lordotic angle. It was agreed with the importance of clinical erect position radiography, which gravity affects. So clinical radiologist must recognize the difference, and conduct an accurate study.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop functional garment wear for patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) and to analyze changes in Cobb's angle and the COM of the body and the pelvis during gaits in order to identify the effects of the functional garment wear. The subjects of the study were 9 patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, who wore the functional garment wear for 12 weeks 12 hours a day. As for the research methods, the scoliotic angle was measured using Cobb's angle, and the shoulder angle and the COM of the body and the pelvis during gaits for the AIS patients were calculated using five high speed infrared cameras. As a result of the study, it was found that the scoliotic angle (Cobb's angle) was reduced significantly and that the smaller the original scoliotic angle, the greater the effects. As for the shoulder motion angle, a significantly larger angle was found 12 weeks after wearing the functional garment wear, and particularly, larger shoulder motion (activity) was observed at the phase of right heel contact. As for the motion of the body and the pelvis, the moving ranges were significantly reduced after wearing the functional garment wear for 12 weeks, which stabilized gait in the patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

  • Objectives This study analyzed the correlation between body parameters measured using X-ray and Chuna posture analysis system to determine their clinical value in diagnosing and evaluating skeletomuscular diseases. Methods X-ray and Chuna posture analysis system were performed for 105 patients to measure physical characteristics such as Interacromial angle, Pelvic obliquity angle, Structural leg length discrepancy (SLLD), Midpatella-midtalus angle (MMA) and Q-angle, Anterior head translation (AHT), Anterior superior iliac spine to posterior superior iliac spine angle (ASIS-PSIS angle), Interscapular angle, Scoliotic angle and Cobb's angle. Statistical analysis using statistical analysis techniques and Pearson correlation coefficients was performed to assess the body parameters obtained by X-ray and Chuna posture analysis system. Results Significant correlations were observed between the values for Interacromial angle, Pelvic obliquity angle, SLLD, MMA and Q-angle, AHT, ASIS-PSIS angle, Interscapular angle, Scoliotic angle and Cobb's angle obtained by X-ray and Chuna posture analysis system. Significant correlations were also observed between right MMA and left Q-angle as well as between left MMA and right Q-angle. Conclusions Chuna posture analysis system can be used instead of X-ray measure body parameters and perform posture analysis in clinical practice. This study's findings are expected to serve as a basis for further research on the clinical application of Chuna posture analysis system.

  • This study examined the effects of the location and direction of the scolioti curve on postural balance in patients with idiopathic scoliosis. Fifteen subjects were divided into three groups: right thoracic curve group, left lumbar curve group, and double curve group. The dynamic trunk motion (angle variation in the lumbar, thoracolumbar, lower thoracic and upper thoracic region) and plantar pressure distribution (maximum force and peak pressure) were assessed using an ultrasound-based motion analysis system and Emed-at platform system. From the results, it was confirmed that patients with idiopathic scoliosis showed postural imbalance with an increased angle and pressure asymmetry according to the location and direction of the scoliotic curve for dynamic trunk motion and plantar pressure distribution. In addition, there were differences in the postural balance pattern between the single curve and double curve groups. Further studies for developing a rehabilitation training device will be conducted to improve the postural control ability and trunk balance as well as treat scoliosis based on the results of this study.

  • The present study was performed to investigate the prevalence rate of idiopathic scoliosis and to determine the effect of exercise training on scoliotic angle in elementary school children. In this study, two out of five elementary schools in Seosan city were chosen by random sampling. Seven hundred sixty four students (from four grade to the sixth grade student) were selected in two schools. Screening tests were conducted to find idiopathic scoliosis. Among the 764 individuals, 139 subjects who showed positive sign in physical examination took whole spine radiography. Thirty six subjects who had a curve of 10 or greater and consented to participate in the exercise program were selected for the exercise program. The exercise program was performed four times a week for 5 months. The results of this study were as follows: 1) One hundred thirty nine subjects showed positive sign in the scoliosis screening test. 2) The overall prevalence of curve of $10^{\circ}or$ greater in X-ray finding was 8.15%. The prevalencies of curve of $10^{\circ}or$ greater in male and female were 7.1% and 9.2%, respectively. 3) Scoliosis curves were observed at thoracic area (48.4%), at thoracolumbar area (27.4%) and at lumbar area(24.4%). 4) Right side curve was 59.7%, and left side curve was 40.3%. 5) After the 5 month exercise program for scoliosis, the Cobb's angle was significantly decreased. 6) There was no significant difference of Cobb's angle change respect to sex, grades, and scoliosis curve site. Results shown here indicates that an early detection and early exercise for scoliosis can result in decreased the Cobb's angle in elementary school children.
