The purpose of this study was to explore if, what kinds of, how much computational thinking (CT after this) practices could be included in STEAM programs, and what kinds of CT practices could be improved to make STEAM revitalized. The CT analyzing tool with operational definitions and its examples in science education was modified and employed for 5 science-focused and 5 engineering-focused STEAM programs. There was no discerning pattern of CT practices uses between science and engineering STEAM programs but CT practices were displayed depending on their topics. The patterns of CT practices uses from each STEAM program could be used to describe what CT practices were more explored, weakly exposed, or missing. On the basis of these prescription of CT practices from each STEAM program, the researchers could develop the weakly exposed or missing CT practices to be improved for the rich experience in CT practices during STEAM programs.
The cultivation of scientific literacy in recent science education can be improved by experiencing and understanding scientific inquiry by which scientific knowledge is formed. The National Research Council(NRC) released the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) including 8 practices of science that help students experience scientists' inquiry and subdividing achievement standards to perform 8 practices of science into by grade clusters. This study was intended to examine science inquiry activities included in 4 high school chemistry II textbooks developed by the 2009 revised curriculum using the 8 scientific practices and their achievement standards for 9th-12th grade. The science inquiry activities and the science practices included in the 4 textbooks were 173 and 678. The science practices included in the inquiry activities of 4 textbooks included the most ‘analyzing and interpreting data.’ The ‘engaging in argument from evidence’, ‘Obtaining, Evaluating, and Communicating Information’ were less than other practices. The ‘asking questions and defining problem’ and ‘developing and using models’ were not nearly included in the 4 high school chemistry II textbooks.
Even though identical science textbooks are used in elementary science classes, differences exist in teachers' teaching practices. The purpose of this study was to understand the relationships between elementary teachers' beliefs of science learning and their science teaching practices. An Likert-scale survey and interviews were performed on four elementary teachers to obtain information about the beliefs of teachers in science learning. In order to understand their teaching practices and the relationships between teachers' beliefs and their teaching practices, 2 classes per each teacher were recorded and instruction analyses were performed in the aspects of teaching contents, methods, and learning environments. The results showed that teacher A and B, who held traditional beliefs of science learning, taught their classes mainly based on teacher's explanation. While, teacher C and D, who held constructive beliefs of science learning, reorganized the contents of textbooks and applied various teaching methods and strategies in conducting their teaching practices. There were differences in teachers' beliefs of science learning and teaching practices. These differences in beliefs were related with their science teaching practices.
This study set out to investigate the challenges to science teacher's teaching practices in the Anglophone sub-system of education in Cameroon secondary schools. A sample of 331 of these teachers was selected using the purposive sampling method. Data was collected by use of a questionnaire and was subjected to inferential analysis. The major findings from the multiple regression were challenges associated with the size and management of a science class have an effect on the teaching practices of a science teacher. However, challenges with availability of instructional resources did not have an effect on science teaching practices. Recommendations to solve the identified drawbacks include the provision of more classrooms to accommodate the ever growing population of students and the organization of many seminars through which teachers could be educated on how to handle classroom problems and improvise when necessary.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the sustainable practices of nutrition science teachers and dietitians working in school food service operations, and identify the social and psychological factors which affect the overall efficacy of the system. The research model was constructed based on the Extended Theory of Planned Behavior (ETPB) in order to analyze how individual motivation affects the sustainable practices of nutrition science teachers and dietitians. The data were collected through e-mail and postal mail from nutrition science teachers and dietitians all across Korea, and self-administered surveys were conducted. SPSS and AMOS programs were used for statistical analysis. First, the sustainable practices of nutrition science teachers and dietitians were analyzed in 6 different categories. Second, the significant pathways were 6 out of 9 in the ETPB model. Sustainable food service practices in school can contribute to the formation of more a sustainable culture, such as through the encouragement of more healthy eating habits, and higher level of environmental awareness and community awareness. The factors influencing these practices can be applied to the design of improvement programs aimed at increasing sustainable practices.
The overall purposes of this study are to identify actions taken to counter predatory publishing practices as well as to propose an ICT-based model to detect such practices. The need to raise quantitative performance metrics to support career goals has created immense pressure on researchers to publish in the literature as frequently as possible. This "publish or perish" syndrome appears to be fueling a rise in scholarly journals and conferences that provide quicker and easier routes to publication. However, such avenues sometimes involve questionable academic practices with important ethical ramifications. One notable example is the proliferation of predatory publishing, including predatory journals and fake conferences. The widening impact of such activities is beginning to prompt academic societies, publishers, and institutions to take measures. This paper discusses the issues on predatory publishing practices, and some of the actions taken by various stakeholders to address these practices. In order to build a transparent and sustainable scholarly publishing ecosystem, this study highlights multi-dimensional and specific solutions, including reforms to research ethics codes, research management rules, and legal protection from exploitative practices. This paper proposes an ICT-based cooperative model for monitoring of predatory publishers as a potential solution to create a sustainable and transparent infrastructure for a scholarly publication system guarding against misconduct in publishing practices.
Purpose: This research aims to study the internal and external social practices of supply chain management along with economic and social performance of eight Portuguese companies from different industrial sectors. Through empirical data derived from eight case studies, five research propositions are suggested and tested. Research, design, data and methodology: The data was collected through 22 semi-structured interviews with general, procurement, and environmental/safety managers from eight companies from different industrial sectors. Secondary data was collected from reports, websites, and companies' internal documentation. Results: The analysis identifies the most important social practices considered by managers, as well as the performance measures that are most appropriate and most widely used to evaluate the influence of social practices on corporate economic and social performance. The results support four of the five propositions of this research. Companies' economic and social performance are affected by the implementation of social practices into the supply chain, namely the internal social practices. Conclusions: The findings confirmed that there is a positive relationship between internal social practices and economic performance. Internal social supply chain practices contribute to improve social performance. It also identifies the social practices which have negative effects on focal company performance.

Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the structural relationships among mothers' parenting practices, child's self-esteem, and child's well-being and to explore the mediating effects of mothers' parenting practices on child's well-being through child's self-esteem. Research design, data, and methodology: Data from the 10th and 13th waves of the Korean Child Study Panel were used for the study, and data from 1,213 mothers and child were analyzed using SPSS 28.0 and the R statistical program. Results: First, in the relationship between the mother's parenting practices, the child's self-esteem, and well-being, the mother's authoritative parenting practices were positively correlated with the child's self-esteem and well-being. Second, the mother's authoritative parenting practices in preschool directly influenced the child's self-esteem in late school, and the child's self-esteem directly influenced the child's well-being. Third, mothers' authoritative parenting practices in the preschool years had a static effect on child's Well-being through the mediation of child's Self-Esteem in the late school years. The direct mediation effect of the Child's Self-Esteem was confirmed. Conclusions: To promote child's Well-being, mothers should adopt authoritative parenting practices with affection and control and try to improve child's self-esteem. In addition, programs that focus on improving child's self-esteem can be expected to enhance school-aged child's well-being.

This study investigates science teachers' perceptions of science practices for science assessment. Science practices have information about students' ability to understand scientific knowledge and to perform scientific inquiry. For this study, seven science teachers, who have served for more than five years in secondary schools in Seoul, were chosen. A structured questionnaire consisting of twenty-seven items were used in National Assessment of Educational Achievement. And then, in-depth interviews followed. Co-workers analyzed and discussed the questionnaire and interviews. As results show, science teachers tend to determine science practices based on materials and way to present materials included in questions. Science teachers tend to recognize science practice as different, depending on information and thinking process, which is expected in solving them. In addition, they have a variety of the level of definition and understanding about science practices.
Many agile practices have been suggested for software development flexible enough to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. However, too many agile practices hinder computer engineers from deciding which agile practices are suitable for a given project. They need guidelines of the benefits an agile practice provides for a project, and how many of its benefits are effective. Therefore, this study investigates IT experts' perspectives on each agile practice's effectiveness in their projects using a repertory grid technique. Based on an analysis of data collected from 23 Korean IT experts about 33 agile projects, we elicit 361 cognitive effects categorized into 30 benefits using content analysis. Next, we identify agile practices that are primarily used and recognized as positive and further examine what benefits many agile practices usually bring. Finally, we evaluate the level of benefits overall that each agile practice provides.
