The purpose of this study is to analyze the tenth grade science textbooks as an origin of misconception on greenhouse effect concept and find incorrect descriptions on that concept and then suggest some improved schemes. Some incorrect descriptions, pictures. tables and experiments related to misconceptions on greenhouse effect were found in textbooks. They are considered to contribute to form and reinforce misconceptions on that concept : the most important gas of greenhouse effect, the role of $CO_2$ on the change of greenhouse effect. global warming. energy sources, greenhouse experiments and the physical processes of greenhouse effect. So some improved schemes were suggested
The types of misconceptions and their consistencies of the elementary school teachers about the characteristics of currents according to the connection methods of batteries in simple electric circuits were investigated. The misconceptions of the elementary school teachers about them could be divided into three types. Among the respondents of the 96 elementary school teachers for this study, the 2 elementary school teachers consistently understood the characteristics of currents on the basis of the misconception type of focusing only the number of batteries connected regardless of the connection methods of batteries, the 8 elementary school teachers did on the basis of the misconception type of confusing the series connection and the parallel connection of batteries, and the 4 elementary school teachers did on the basis of the misconception type of confusing the series and parallel connection of batteries with those of resistors. Also, they consistently applied these misconception types to not only the situations to use the learned concepts but the situations to use the differentiated concepts about the connection methods of batteries.
As one of the casting plans to improve the scientific inquiry ability of the students, the aims of this study are to develop and apply a basic inquiry program for the inquiry subject of Seogwipo fossil formation, and analyze the basis inquiry ability of the students to show in the inquiry activity process actually. The results obtained in 5th grade 48 elementary school students of Seogwipo-city are as follows; Students executed observing activity using an appropriate senses such as senses of vision and touch, and showed the tendency which tries to observe the form overall rather than the partial form of the fossil formation. But the ability to utilize appropriately for predicting and inferring with the facts which could depend on observing activity was low. And we found out that the misconceptions influence on inquiry activity. Therefore, to help understanding deeper for the students' basic inquiry element, it is thought that a study of the various educational guidance ways is necessary to this. The teachers also have to study the various ways to induce the scientific conception through the application of proper teaching-learning for correction of misconceptions because misconceptions have an influence on inquiry activity together. If various inquiry programs considering the regional-specific characteristics are developed to cause students' interest, students would come to participate in inquiry activity aggressively a little more.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the elementary pre-service teachers' conceptions on 'the freezing point depression' focusing on the survey from a National University of Education. Eighteen pre-service teachers who had completed high school Chemistry II coursework were selected to participate in the study. Participants answered a four question survey to measure their scientific knowledge and conceptions of this phenomenon. Each answer was qualitatively analyzed to determine whether they have 'scientific conceptions' or 'quasi-scientific conceptions' or 'misconceptions'. The results from the study are as follows: First, it was showed that none of the eighteen participants had 'scientific conceptions', six had 'quasi-scientific conceptions' and eight had 'misconceptions' about the caused effect when $CaCl_2$ is scattered on the ice. Second, it was found that three participants had 'scientific conceptions', eight had 'quasi-scientific conceptions' and two had 'misconceptions' for the second survey question. Third, ten out of eighteen participants demonstrated 'scientific conceptions' about the phenomenon of salt water freezing. Fourth, only three of eighteen participants illustrated appropriate 'scientific conceptions' for the fourth survey question. Fifth, of all participants, none answered more than three questions correctly, and only three participants answered any combination of two questions correctly. Based on the findings of this study, five explanatory models were developed. And the models were proposed for pre-service teachers to enhance their understanding of the freezing point depression phenomenon.

In this study, we analyzed types of explanation on osmosis concept that were represented in chemistry and biology textbooks of high school and college. There were 5 types of explanation on osmosis concept. The types of explanation were diffusion of solvent, collision, hydration, equilibrium of concentration and screen of holes. Last two types of explanation were classified into misconceptions. The various types of explanation on osmosis concept might cause to have be a reason that students had many misconceptions and to feel difficult to learn about osmosis concept. Many of textbooks is accord to types of concept explanation and figure explanation on osmosis but some is not.

Oceanic current and circulation have played an important role as regulators of the earth's energy distribution. The science and earth science textbooks for secondary schools based on the 2015 revised curriculum included a misconception of the seasonal variation of the North Korea Cold Current (NKCC) among the currents around the Korean Peninsula. To analyze this, the contents related to the NKCC were collected in the textbooks of five middle and six high schools, and a questionnaire survey was conducted on 30 middle school science teachers. The survey consisted of questions about whether the textbook mentions the NKCC and whether there is an error in the concept of the temporal variation of the NKCC, and the teachers' free opinions related to the NKCC were collected. The textbooks suggest that the NKCC is strongest in winter, which is not consistent with scientific findings so far. In fact, there is scientific evidence that the NKCC is the strongest in the summer. In this study, the causes and processes of misconceptions were investigated. According to an analysis of the survey, most teachers had an knowledge that the NKCC is stronger in winter. These errors began with a misconception of the terms, which teachers had imprinted on their memory as firm knowledge. These misconceptions originated from the knowledge that teachers themselves acquired from their secondary school years and have long been transferred back to teachers and students without revising the misconceptions of textbooks. This situation is expected to have a seriously recurrent structure that produces students' serious misconceptions in the future. Therefore, this study summarizes existing results on the seasonal variability of the NKCC and suggests the necessity for re-education to improve teachers' professionalism and to eliminate the misconceptions of teachers and students.
The purpose of this study is to suggest the direction for development of function materials integrating mathematics and science. First, we must investigate curricular scope and sequence of mathematics and science. Second, the science contexts selected need to support the mathematics concepts, not overwhelm them. The mathematics can easily get lost if science becomes too complicated. We may be tempted, which can result in misconceptions that are hard to correct later. Third, Many different examples of mathematics-science integration exist, therefore, it is important to find rich science contexts to connect with mathematics.
In this study, we analyzed pre-service teachers' levels of pedagogical reasoning while watching video clips of elementary school students' discussions of their conceptions of solution and dissolution. 81 pre-service teachers participated in the study. It was found that many pre-service teachers had scientific conceptions, and pre-service teachers who had non-scientific conceptions showed misconceptions similar to those of elementary school students. In both conceptions, pre-service teachers partially or comprehensively interpreted the students' misconceptions with reference to the evidence. However, the rates of pre-service teachers who misinterpreted or simply restated the students' utterances were quite high. Many pre-service teachers suggested only one factor related to levels of reasoning about causes of misconceptions, and most suggested factors were related to the student factor. The level of reasoning about instructional decisions differed according to dissolution and solution conceptions. Actions linked to students' thinking were more closely related to students' specific thinking than to their generic thinking, and among these, student-centered action was seen. From the above results, we sought ways of improving pre-service teachers' pedagogical reasoning.
The purpose of this study is to investigate various conceptions of secondary school earth science teachers on some concepts in secondary school earth science courses; wind in cyclone, western intensification of ocean current, westerly wave, greenhouse effect, ozone layer and atmospheric pressure. The subject is 26 in-service teachers of earth science teachers. The results were analyzed on the view of teaching sources for earth science teachers. The results show that earth science teachers have also various misconceptions on some concepts selected in this study. A number of partial understandings were found that were not enough to apply to teaching concepts. Those misconceptions were related to gradient wind on wind in cyclone and frictional force, related to earth rotation on western intensification of ocean current, related to angular momentum conservation and related to the roles of westerly wave. And misconceptions on greenhouse effect are related to main role of greenhouse effect gases, related to sources of ozone gas and phenomenons by atmospheric pressure. The various understanding types found in this study could be apply to teach the selected concepts in secondary school earth science course.
