  • This study is aimed to implement a preferred generalization classes for gifted students. By designing and applying the generalization lesson using GSP, we tried to investigate the characteristics on the class. To do this, we designed a lesson on generalization of Viviani theorem and applied to 13 8th grade students in a math gifted class. As results, we could extract five subjects as followings; mediating the conjecture by GSP and checking the pattern, misunderstanding the confirm by GSP as a proof and its overcoming, digressing from the topic and cognitive gap, completing the proof by incomplete conjecture, gap between the generalization and understanding generality. Based on this subjects, we discussed the educational implications in order to help implement a preferred generalization classes for gifted students.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop teaching and learning materials for the mathematics project inquiry subject. Since this subject is newly opened in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum, there are no textbooks and materials. Hence it is required to help teachers plan lessons of the mathematics project inquiry subject. For this study, developing directions and objectives are established. Ten hours of lesson plan and teaching and learning materials are also developed for the two themes of 'big data' and 'industrial mathematics'. Suitability and validity of the developed material are verified positively from a survey of 8 teachers and 2 professionals. The detailed result findings are as follows. First, teaching and learning notes are suggested for each lesson plan. They are comprised of building inquiry plan, doing inquiry, summarizing results, and presentation. Second, driving questions of each theme are developed as "What is the big data and where is it used for ?" and "How various is the use of the industrial mathematics ?" respectively. Third, poster-types of each project product are developed. Fourth, three inquiry activity sheets and examples which are theme selection, inquiry plan, and group activity are developed. Fifth, 4 assessment sheets of self, peer, group, and teacher-use are developed.

  • Acute triangles and obtuse triangles are defined according to the classification of triangles by angles. The definitions of acute triangles and obtuse triangles are difficult for students because they are related to different logical elements. The purpose of this study is to seek desirable methods for teaching the classification of triangles by angles related to logic. To do this, based on the theoretical consideration and the longitudinal analysis of the elementary mathematics textbooks, some implications are found for teaching. And then the lesson was planned and applied to $4^{th}$ graders. After the lesson, we reviewed and analyzed their worksheets and test results for examining the effects by teaching methods. Based on the result, we discussed and made some didactical suggestions for teaching the classification of triangles by angles.

  • The science teachers' perceptions and the status of formative assessment in science teaching were identified through a questionnaire. The majority of teachers thought that the most important goal of assessment in education was to identify to what extent pupils achieved learning objectives. They suggested that formative assessment was the most appropriate method regardless of the purposes of assessment. They thought that formative assessment was an assessment carried out at the end of lesson to identify to what extent pupils achieved learning objectives. The teachers stressed the need for formative assessment to identify what pupils achieved. But they carried out formative assessment about once a week and there were very few teachers carrying out formative assessment during the lesson. They responded that it was difficult to carry out formative assessment because of large class size, lack of time and difficulty in preparation. And they used the information from formative assessment to judge the level of attainment.

  • Indoor air quality has been addressed as an important atmospheric environmental issue and has caught attention of the public in recent years in Korea. Good indoor air quality in classrooms favour student's learning ability, teacher and staff's productivity according to other studies. In this study, each classroom at four different schools was chosen for comparison of indoor and outdoor air quality by means of source generation types such as new constructed classroom, using of cleaning agents and purchased furniture. Temperature, relative humidity (RH), carbon dioxide $(CO_2)$, formaldehyde (HCHO), total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) and particulate matter with diameter less than $10{\mu}m\;(PM_{10})$ were monitored at indoor and outdoor locations during lesson. HCHO was found to be the worst among parameters measured in new constructed classroom, HCHO and TVOCs was worst in classroom with new purchased furniture, and TVOCs was worst in classroom cleaned by cleaning agents, Indoor $(CO_2)$ concentrations often exceeded 1500 ppm indicating importance of ventilation. Active activity of students during break time made the $PM_{10}$ concentration higher than a lesson, Improvements and further researches should be carried out considering indoor air quality at schools is of special concern since children and students are susceptible to poor air quality.

  • Using interesting video clips corresponding to lesson subjects for students who favour visual representation is one of the good methods to enhance students' preference for science class. There are many moving picture web sites to get video clips easily via internet and 'YouTube' is very popular and one of the largest reservoir. In this study, every student in the 'Chemistry I' class, which is a class for 11th grade, was requested to search a video clip corresponding to lesson subjects and to make a presentation in the class. After 1st semester, students' response about the class using YouTube was examined by survey. As a result, students preferred and were interested in the class using YouTube than class centered on textbook. And students preferred YouTube clips showing unusual experiments that were related with contents of subject. In addition, experiments and watching their real phenomena were an interesting factor and helpful factor of learning chemistry in YouTube video clips, respectively. However, translation of English used in the video clips seemed to be a difficult part for students.

  • This study was to investigate what pre-service teachers pay attention to when designing science lessons. As a result of analyzing the responses of pre-service teachers, it is analyzed that pre-service teachers are designing science lessons with emphasis on science inquiry, considering students' interest, level, and treatment of misconceptions, and closely related to daily life. In particular, it was found that elementary school pre-service teachers made a lot of comments on science class design that emphasizes experimentation and inquiry, so it was found that emphasizing inquiry was recognized as an important point in science lesson design. It is very positive that pre-service teachers recognize important aspects of science education, such as emphasizing inquiry. In addition, it is suggested that the opportunities for class design and demonstration through collaboration with teachers and colleagues should be increased for pre-service teachers' professional development of teachers.
