  • With the rapid progress of society and economic growth, more and more factories are put into construction, although to a certain extent to promote the development of our country's economy, but the waste gas and waste water produce also harm the environment.Among them, air pollution causes great damage to the environment and harms human health.In order to protect people's safety and health, people began to look for some measures to control air pollution, one of the most effective way is to plant more green plants, using plants for air purification.

Biomethanation of Sewage Sludge with Food Waste Leachate Via Co-Digestion

  • Anaerobic mono- and co-digestion of sewage sludge and food waste leachate (FWL) were performed by assessing methane production and characterizing microbial communities. Anaerobic digestion (AD) of waste activated sludge (WAS) alone produced the lowest methane ($281ml\;CH_4$), but an approximately 80% increase in methane production was achieved via co-digestion of WAS and FWL ($506ml\;CH_4$). There were less differences in the diversity of bacterial communities in anaerobic digesters, while archaeal (ARC) and bacterial (BAC) amounts reflected AD performance. Compared with the total ARC and BAC amounts in the mono-digestion of WAS, the ARC and BAC amounts increased two and three times, respectively, during co-digestion of FWL and WAS. In characterized archaeal communities, the dominant ratio of hydrogenotrophic methanogens in the mono-digestion of WAS approached nearly a 1:1 ratio of the two acetoclastic and hydrogenotrophic methanogens in the co-digestion of FWL and WAS. The ARC/BAC ratio in the digesters varied in the range of 5.9% to 9.1%, indicating a positive correlation with the methane production of AD.

학교 쓰레기 처리현황과 개선에 관한 연구 - 서울시 공립 초.중등학교를 대상으로 - (A Study of School Waste Disposal Status and Its Reforms (Public Primary and Secondary Schools in Seoul))

  • The purpose of this study was to survey the trends of waste products in schools, its gathering and disposal, identification of problems and to analyze its disposal. Moreover, this study was aimed at basic suggestions about the establishment and plans of waste environmental education. 98 public primary and secondary schools were surveyed in Seoul during the month of March and April, 1991. Information was collected from each educational association by random sampling. Questionaries were used for this survey. To understand the disposal status of school waste and its reforms, this study surveyed the amount of waste by products, their origin and analyzed the disposal by type, one number of schools and teachers involved. The dump sited and disposal methods of school waste, its problems, and the status of school waste educations were researched, and ideal disposal methods and plans for waste education were suggested. The results were as follows. 1. The School's trash was produced by followings: paper, vinyle plastics, food, woods, metals, ceramics, glass, bottles, and ash from the heating system. The biggest cause of the school's waste as shown by the survey was a lack of environmental awareness(39.8%). The second biggest was the use of a one time use of disposable paper products(27.6%). 2. Waste collection by different grade levels were proven to be important but as you move from elementary to high school, the waste collecting operation decreased, in this connection between the students and waste collection itself it was significant on the other hand the teachers were not working as significant variables. 3. Of the school that collected waste 69.5 percent of the schools separately grouped common waste and recyclable waste. 25 schools(42.4%) received improvement on their environmental awareness of trash collection through this method. 4. From the number of disposal sites in surveyed schools, it was determined that the education of the necessity for separation of waste was performed in vain and accordingly the should require a real education in the future. 5. Regarding the method of disposal of waste the survey indicated that the #1 method of disposal was partial burning and the remains carried to a dump site by others(35,7%). In elementary schools the entire waste was taken by individuals to a dump site (33.3%). In high schools partial burning and then transported by individuals #1 in our survey(50%). 6. Relative to the problem of the treatment to waste, the emission of smoke from the burning was considered to be the #1 priority in our survey (62.3%) the problem of trash collection being delayed was 52.1%(1in our survey). 7. The present situation of environmental education of waste us lacking. Under present circumstances, the practice of public announcements for improvement and waste-paper collection has been going on vigorously but lacking in education as to the preparation of compositions for students the themes of public exhibitions, the organizing of voluntary associations should be part of the education system to reinforce student's awareness of proper waste disposal. 8. The most economical alternative for disposal was recycling usable waste or combustible material through a variety of education we can therefore educate students bring this education to their homes public servants will also be able to benefit in the waste disposal process with proper education. In conclusion we should intensify the systemical organization and the education of our waste disposal for a better environment.

유기성 폐기물의 혐기성 소화효율 향상을 위한 열가용화 하수슬러지의 통합소화 (Integrated Digestion of Thermal Solubilized Sewage Sludge to Improve Anaerobic Digestion Efficiency of Organic Waste)

  • Studies for improving the efficiency of the traditional anaerobic digestion process are being actively conducted. To improve anaerobic digestion efficiency, this study tried to derive the optimal pretreatment conditions and mixing conditions by integrating the heat solubilization pretreatment of sewage sludge, livestock manure, and food waste. The soluble chemical oxygen demand (SCOD) increase rate of sewage sludge before and after heat solubilization pretreatment showed an increased rate of 224.7% compared to the control group at 170℃ and 25 min and showed the most stable increase rate. As a result of the biomethane potential test of sewage sludge before and after heat solubilization pretreatment, the total chemical oxygen demand (TCOD) and SCOD removal rates increased as the heat solubilization temperature increased, but did not increase further at temperatures above 170℃. In the case of methane generation, there was no significant change in the cumulative methane generation from 0.134 to 0.203 Sm3-CH4/kg-COD at 170℃ for 15 min. As a result of the integrated digestion of organic waste, the experimental condition in which 25% of the sewage sludge, 50% of the food waste, and 25% of the livestock manure were mixed showed the highest methane production of 0.3015 m3-CH4/kg-COD, confirming that it was the optimal mixing ratio condition. In addition, under experimental conditions mixed with all three substrates, M4 conditions mixed with 25% sewage sludge, 50% food waste, and 25% livestock manure showed the highest methane generation at 0.2692 Sm3-CH4/kg-COD.

  • To stop hunger, reducing food losses is a potential movement towards saving food. A large portion of these losses could be avoided and reduced through the improved food chain in many countries. Raising awareness on how and where food losses occur will help recovering foods such as meat by identifying solutions and convincing people to implement those solutions. This, in turn, will lead to private and public efforts to recover meat that might be otherwise wasted. After highlighting the importance of food saving benefits and relevant statistics, this paper explains the possible ways to reduce meat loss and waste in abattoirs and presents a framework for prevention according to the estimates of meat losses in Iran meat supply. The current article answers the questions of where do we have the meat loss in Iran and what approaches are most successful in reducing losses in the meat industry. The national average loss and waste in meat production are about 300,000 metric tonnes (about 15%). Many segments and players are involved with this huge amount of losses in the meat value chain, a large portion of these losses could be avoided and reduced by about 25% through using by-products with the mechanization of design and manufacturing. The production amount of mechanically deboned meat (MDM) is 105,091,000 kg, concluding the major waste (88.33%) of total poultry losses. Ensuring appropriate actions by exploiting the full potential of engaged Iranian associations and institutes is considered to reduce the losses.

음식물 쓰레기 수집운반체계 평가 및 개선 방안 (Evaluation and Improvement Measures on collection and transportation System of Food Waste)

  • 본 연구는 현재 국내에 설치되어 있는 공공자원화시설에 유입되는 음식물쓰레기의 수집운반체계를 분석하여 문제점을 도출하고, 합리적인 대안을 제시하기 위하여 수행되었다. 분리배출방법에 있어서 공동주택은 용기를, 단독주택은 종량제 봉투를 사용하고 있으나, 자원화산물의 재활용용도에 따라 분리배출방법의 개선이 요구된다. 각 지자체별 수집운반비용을 분석한 결과, 낮게는 30,000원/톤, 높게는 150,000원/톤으로 조사되어 수집운반에 있어서 공평성이 확보되지 않고 지자체별로 많은 차이가 있는 것으로부터 지자체별의 특성에 따라 수집운반비용의 산정기준 마련이 필요한 것으로 확인되었다. 세대단위에 부가하는 요금은 종량제봉투의 경우에는 큰 문제점이 없었으나, 공동주택의 경우에는 많은 차이가 있는 것으로부터 해당 지역에서 산출된 수집운반비용에 근거하여 차등부과할 필요성이 있는 것으로 판단되었다. 수집운반차량이 아직까지 생활쓰레기 수집차량을 사용하는 개소가 많으며, 이들은 침출수, 악취 등의 민원이 예견되는 것으로부터 음식물쓰레기 전용차량으로의 점진적인 대체가 요구된다. 또한 수집운반의 거리가 경우에 20km이상으로 초과하는 지역이 있는 것으로부터 이들 지역에 있어서는 적환에 의하여 운반효율을 고려할 필요가 있는 것으로 판단되었다.

경기도 B 지역 학교폐기물의 성상 및 물리∙화학적 특성 (The Composition and Physico-chemcal Characteristics of school waste in B area, Kyunggi-do)

  • 본 연구에서는 경기도 B지역 학교 폐기물의 성상 및 물리 화학적 특성을 조사하였다. 이것은 폐기물 재활용 및 자원화시설 설계를 위한 기초자료로 활용할 수 있게 하고자 한다. 학교폐기물의 물리적 조성의 실험결과 음식 쓰레기 12.25%, 종이류 56.26%, 플라스틱과 비닐류 9.26%, 섬유 1.52%, 나무 3.70%, 고무 및 피혁류와 기타는 0.11%이다. 학교폐기물의 대부분은 종이류와 플라스틱류이고, 약 90%가 가연성분인 것으로 나타났다. 삼성분 분석 결과 수분 5.72%, 가연분 88.29%, 그리고 회분 5.98%로 나타났으며, 농촌지역 학교 폐기물 성분중 수분이 도시지역 학교보다 높게 나왔다. 건조된 폐기물의 원소 분석 결과 탄소, 산소, 수소가 높게 나왔으며 학교폐기물의 저위발열량은 3051.44kcal/kg로 조사되어졌다.

초등학교 급식에서 배출되는 음식물쓰레기의 환경교육적 활용(I) - 음식물쓰레기 현황 및 환경교육적 활용 분석을 중심으로 - (A Study on Practical Applications of Environmental Education related to Food Waste Collected from Elementary School Foodservices(I))

  • This study was conducted as a preliminary step to establish a model for the practical application of environmental education related to food wastes collected from elementary school foodservices. Methods of treatment and present recycling status of food wastes in elementary schools in Kyonggido were surveyed. The consciousness of dieticians who have been serving for elementary school foodservices was also analyzed through the survey questions concerning environmental education for the reduction and recycling of food wastes. The results derived from this survey were as follows: The major portion of food wastes from elementary school foodservices was constituted with vegetables and soup, and an average amount of food wastes per day was highest in June and July. Therefore environmental education related to reduction of wastes was needed in the first semester of school terms, and the possible reduction of food wastes achieved through the proper planning of school foodservice menu was also needed. In most cases food wastes were collected and treated by animal growing farmers or composted by machines in school. In operating composting machines microorganism inoculant was mostly used but dieticians pointed out the problem of a nasty odor, insects, and high energy consumption. This situation means it has not been operated efficiently and suggests an efficiency problem of machine composting in elementary schools because composting itself is based on the aerobic digestion and high temperature fermentation which kills insects and harmful microorganisms. Elementary school dieticians in Kyonggido were aware that food wastes cause main pollution problem, and that food wastes are valuable resources which can be recycled, and recycling of food wastes is inevitable. But more than half of the schools surveyed have not been reused food wastes in school, so a proper model for recycling and reuse of food wastes in school grounds was thought to be needed. Environmental education programs related to food wastes have not been peformed in more than half of the schools surveyed. It was concluded that the following three plans will be helpful to reduce school food wastes. First, environmental education should be enforced, second, teachers' and dieticians' intensive teaching concerning food wastes should be needed, and finally establishment of a model for recycling and reuse of food wastes in school grounds and its application to environmental education would offer a valuable field experience to school students.

경기도 초등학교 급식의 단독과 공동조리 시스템 비용/효과분석 (Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of School Foodservice Systems in Kyonggi-do)

  • The purpose of this study were to :(a) investigate meal costs, plate waste costs, and advantages/disadvantages of conventional /commissary foodservices and (b) compare the effectiveness of commissary foodservice systems with that of conventional systems. Questionnaires were developed and mailed to 136 schools in Kyonggi-do. A total of 106 questionnaires were usable, resulting in a 77.9% response rate. Teacher's teaching of good food habits and students satisfaction with school foodservices were surveyed in three schools from each system. Moreover, plate waste was measured to express cost and benefit in currency. Data were analyzed using the SAS package for description analysis, t-test, $\chi$$^2$ test, ANOVA, and the Vilcoxon rank sum test. Approximately seventy percent of 294schools in Kyonggi-do were operating commissary systems and most of them were of the rural (reduced paid) type. The number of meals served varied significantly between types of foodservice. The results of this study indicated that average food , labor utility , and supply costs were saved in the commissary system and that the total meal cost/person for a day was 1218.7 won compared to 1452.4 won in the conventional system. Though total meal costs were saved in the commissary system, dietitians had difficulties cooperating with school foodservice committees and supporters associations, especially in satellites of the commissary system. In addition, dietitians and teachers in the commissary system did not carry out teaching activities on good food habits to students as often as in the conventional system. Other problems that dietitians recognized in the commissary system were difficulties in training employees and parents for portion control and serving relatively simple menus. Students, as customers of school foodservices, are very important for system evaluation . Students in the commissary system scored of food itself , cleanliness of tableware, waiting time, quantity of meal and food temperature significantly lower than students in the conventional system. Moreover , the rate of plate waste was 20.5% in the commissary system as compared to 3.3% in the conventional system. Cost-effectiveness (saving 233.7won/person/day) is the main benefit of the commissary system. However , because of lower satisfaction scores and a highest plate waste rate, 201.9won/ person were wasted in the commissary system. The results of this study suggest that increasing the number of meals served within a commissary system might maximize the efficiency of the system, but increasing the number of satellites is not recommended because it might be out of dietitians control in many aspects.

음폐수의 열가수분해 최적조건 도출과 생물학적 탈질공정에서 열가용화액의 적용 가능성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Optimum Conditions Derivation on Thermal Hydrolysis of Food Wastewater and the Applicability of the Thermal Solubilization in Biological Denitrification Process)

  • The aim of this research is to derive an optimum operating condition for the thermal solubilization equipment that is employed to increase concentration of soluble organic materials and to assess whether it would be possible to use the waste sludge generated by thermal solubilization reaction as an external carbon source in biological denitrification process. For the purpose, we have constituted a laboratory-size thermal solubilization equipment and have assessed thermal hydrolysis efficiency based on various reaction temperature and reaction time. We have also derived SDNR using the waste sludge generated by thermal solubilization reaction through a batch experiment. As a result of research, the highest thermal hydrolysis efficiency of about 42.8% was achieved at $190^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and at 90 minutes of reaction time. And when SDNR was derived using the waste sludge, the value obtained was $0.080{\sim}0.094\;g\;NO_3{^-}-N/g\;MLVSS{\cdot}day$, showing SDNR that is higher than that obtained by the results of existing researches that used common wastewater as an external carbon source. Accordingly, in view of the fact that food wastes vary quite a bit in characteristics based on the area they are generated from and seasonal change, it seems that a flexible operation of thermal solubilization equipment is required through on-going monitoring of food wastes that are imported to food wastes recycling facilities.
