  • In upper elementary period school adjustment and the effect of parenting face a new set of dynamics. We assumed that parental supervision, affection, incoherence, over-expectation, over-interruption and logical explanation would have an effect on individual trajectories in the development of school adjustment. Additionally, we hypothesized that this model would be different among boys and girls. In this study we analyzed three waves of data collected from 2,378 children nationwide in South Korea. This data was gathered from the Panel Study of Korean Youth and Adolescents conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute(NYPI). Growth-curve longitudinal analysis was conducted and the results indicate that levels of school adjustment had decreased through the $4^{th}$ to $6^{th}$ grade. Parents' supervision, affection and logical explanation significantly predict children's initial school adjustment as well as their rate of decrease in their levels of school adjustment. Parents' supervision had a positive effect on girls' school adjustment. Parents' over-expectation had negative effect on boys' school adjustment levels. Policy implications and future directions for research were also discussed.

  • Using youth panel data, this study attempted to diagnose the effect of residential characteristics (housing type and housing type) and various household background variables on the implementation of youth NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training), and to suggest appropriate policy directions. As a result of the analysis, it was found that young individuals residing in unfavorable living conditions such as those who rent on a monthly basis or live in multi-household, villa, or officetel settings, had a higher likelihood of transitioning to NEET. Those who received financial support from their parents were more likely to transition to NEET. Therefore, comprehensive youth NEET support policies such as customized housing and job policies according to the characteristics of NEET should be established. In particular, even though they have reached adulthood, it is shown that the likelihood of becoming NEET is very high for youth who live together with their parents without being economically independent or who receive financial assistance from their parents. In order to mitigate and prevent these young people from NEET transition, transitioning from school to the labor market should be facilitated with policy support.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of adolescent social withdrawal on self-esteem and life satisfaction, and to analyze the moderating effect of participation in Self-development Youth Activities. Among the data for the 3rd year of the Korea Children's and Youth Panel Survey 2018 (KCYPS. 2018), data from 2,384 first-year middle school students were used, and descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, linear regression analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were performed to test the hypothesis. First, it was analyzed that the social withdrawal had a statistically significant negative(-) effect on the self-esteem. Second, it was analyzed that the social withdrawal had a statistically significant negative(-) effect on the life satisfaction. Third, it was verified that self-development Youth Activities had a moderating effect in the relationship between social withdrawal and self-esteem. Fourth, it was verified that self-development Youth Activities had a moderating effect in the relationship between social withdrawal and life satisfaction.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the factors influencing oral health education of adolescents from multi-cultural families. Methods: The subjects were 711 multi-cultural adolescents from the 15th(2019) Korean youth risk behavior web-based survey. Multi-cultural adolescents were defind as the children of marriage migrant women. The collected data was analyzed using the chi-squared test and logistic regression; SPSS versin 18.0 was used. Results: Middle-school adolescents received more oral health education than their high-school counterparts. The adolescents with once-daily and twice-daily teeth brushing behaviors were 0.475 (p<0.05) and 0.784 times less those with thrice-daily behavior, respectively. Adolescents who received oral health education also experienced dental care 1.644 times more than their counterparts(p<0.05). Conclusions: The promotion of oral health among multicultural families and further education through the establishment of school oral health education programs are required.

Methods: Secondary data analysis was conducted utilizing the 18th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey, with a total enrollment of 51,850 students. Descriptive statistics, x2 tests, and multivariate logistic regression were performed using SPSS 23.0. Results: The study identified several factors associated with high-caffeine drink consumption, including school levels, tobacco or alcohol consumption, walking, perceived stress levels, feelings of sadness, loneliness, and anxiety, and the occurrence of suicidal thoughts. Conclusion: The findings suggest there is an association between unhealthy health behaviors or mental health issues, and consumption of high-caffeine drinks among adolescents. It emphasizes the need for increased attention and targeted educational interventions for adolescents at high risk.

  • The objectives of this study were to measure role conflict of 4-H leaders and to verify the differences of role conflict and self-efficacy according to individual characteristics. The data were collected from 99 leaders who took charge of guiding 4-H youth organization in school as teacher advisor. The statistical techniques used for this study were frequency, t-test, one-way analysis of variance and correlation. The major findings of this study were as follows; 1) The 4-H leaders had some role conflict and role ambiguity in guiding youth activities in the school. 2) The leader advisor group with teaching experience of $5{\sim}9$ years showed higher role conflict and lower role ambiguity. 3) The 4-H leaders with age over 45 felt higher role conflict and lower role ambiguity. 4)The leaders' self-efficacy was positively correlated with self esteem, and negatively associated with role ambiguity.

  • The purpose of the present research was to examine the relationship between the using goals of computer and self-regulated learning ability on the gender difference. To accomplish this goal, we have analyzed the data of Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey III which is nationally collected from primary school students, currently on the 6th grade in South Korea. 2,219 samples were used in the study excluding missing samples. The participants were 1167 males (49.5%) and 1052 females (50.5%). The mean age was 13.94 years (SD=.25). As results, female students spent more time on using computer than male students did: (1) the male students' time spent on Playing game was significantly larger than that of female students, but (2) on the rest seven using goals of computer including e-Learning/Information retrieval for learning, the female students spent significantly more time than the male students did. Also, in terms of the self-regulated learning ability, using computer for e-Learning/Information retrieval for learning itself gave significantly positive effects on both male and female students' self-regulated learning ability. On the other hand, Playing game gave significantly negative effects on both. Based on the results, some strategies were suggested on the proper use of computer for learning.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the life satisfaction of adolescents in the ecological contexts of their individual, family, school, and social-cultural experiences. The participants were 1,099 middle and high school students in Chungnam-do. Instruments were the Satisfaction with Life Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Parent-Adolescent Communication Inventory, the School Life Satisfaction Scale, and Social-Cultural Satisfaction Scale. Data analysis involved the use of descriptive statistics, t- and F-tests, Duncan's multiple range test, product-moment correlations, multiple regression, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, and factor analysis. Results were as follows: Firstly, middle school students showed the highest levels of life satisfaction, and vocational high school students reported the lowest levels. Also, life satisfaction was inversely related to school grades. Secondly, for all the students, life satisfaction was positive correlated with self-esteem, open communication with parents, school life satisfaction, and social-cultural satisfaction. Lastly, open communication with parents and overall satisfaction with life at school explained more of the variance in adolescent life satisfaction than any other factors.
