  • Scarf has played an important role not only as keeping warm of human body but also as accessory of clothes. These days with taking a growing interest of accessory, scarf had thrown off a subsidiary part and gradually had a leading place which guides the overall mode of fashion. Because scarf design of Korea does not get out of imitation step of foreign countries brands it is necessary to develop the scarf design which can show the cultural identity and originality of Korea in international society. Therefore in this study, I chose lotus flower patterns expressed on Buncheon pottery and Korean traditional patchwork cloth as the subject material of scarves design development, and my intention for this study is to develop scarves designs of Korean images by adding modern scenes. For that, first I researched lotus flower patterns expressed on Buncheon pottery and Korean traditional patchwork cloth. Among those materials, I selected to had been presented modern image. And by using computer design program of adobe illustrator 10.0 I designed the basic patterns of three types and developed the square scarves design and rectangle scarves design with those.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the radiological and clinical results of modified scarf osteotomy for hallux valgus with lesser metatarsalgia. Materials and Methods: Total 19 patients (24 feet) were reviewed by medical records and radiographs. All patients were female and the mean age at the time of operation was 46.4 years. The mean follow-up time was 14.8 months. We modified original scarf osteotomy by adding the procedure of closing wedge osteotomy at the medial side of distal fragment for achieving of the supination of the first metatarsal head. Additionally, Akin osteotomy of the first proximal phalanx was done in 16 patients (20 feet) and no lesser metatarsal operation was done. First-second intermetatarsal, hallux valgus and distal metatarsal articular angles were analyzed radiologically before and after the operation. And 3-dimensional CT was used to evaluate the supination of the first metatarsal head. Clinical results were assessed by American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) score and persistence of lesser metatarsalgia. Results: First-second intermetatarsal and hallux valgus angles were reduced from the mean pre-operative values of $14.2^{\circ}$ and $32.5^{\circ}$ to $8^{\circ}$ and $12.5^{\circ}$, respectively, 12 months after the operation. And the supination of the first metatarsal head was confirmed by 3-dimensional CT. The mean AOFAS score improved from 41.4 points pre-operatively to 87.2 points at follow-up. Lesser metatarsalgia still remained in 2 patients (2 feet). Conclusion: Modified scarf osteotomy would be an effective surgical procedure, especially, for achieving downward displacement and supination of the first metatarsal head in hallux valgus with lesser metatarsalgia.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the radiographic and clinical results of short scarf osteotomy that has minimized longitudinal cut for moderate hallux valgus. Materials and Methods: Total 12 patients (12 feet) were reviewed by medical records and radiographs. All patients were female and the mean age at the time of operation was 41.5 years. The mean followup time was 21.2 months. We modified original scarf osteotomy by shortening the longitudinal cut to 15~20 mm in length. Additionally, Akin osteotomy of the first proximal phalanx was done in 7 feet and Weil osteotomy of the second metatarsal was done in 4 feet. First-second intermetatarsal and hallux valgus angles were analyzed radiographically before and after the operation. And the clinical result was assessed by AOFAS (American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society) hallux score. Results: First-second intermetatarsal and hallux valgus angles were reduced from the mean preoperative values of $14.6^{\circ}$ and $32.8^{\circ}$ to $6.5^{\circ}$ and $11.2^{\circ}$, respectively. The mean AOFAS hallux score was increased from 52.4 points preoperatively to 88.2 points at followup. Three complications were found: metatarsal fracture during the operation, painful scar around second metatarsal head after Weil osteotomy and postoperative neuralgia. There was no transfer metatarsalgia or recurrence of hallux valgus during followup. Conclusion: Short scarf osteotomy would be an effective surgical procedure for moderate hallux valgus with the benefits of minimized soft tissue dissection and stable fixation.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effect of warm scarf on xerostomia and sore throat in postoperative colon cancer patients. Methods: A total of 40 participants with colon cancer who underwent colon cancer operation over 2hours were included from C University hospital in Seoul. The number of experimental group and control group is each 20 calculated by G*Power, and they were assigned by using nonequivalent control group no-synchronized design. In the experimental group, a warm scarf was applied to the neck for 120 minutes from entering the recovery room after the colorectal cancer surgery was completed. In the experimental group and the control group, xerostomia and sore throat were measured twice at 60-minute intervals. The degree of xerostomia was measured through the degree of wetness of the absorbent paper in mm, and the degree of sore throat was measured through the NRS (Numeral Rating Scale). Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires from August 2018 to September 2020 and were analyzed using IBM SPSS/WIN 21.0 Descriptive statistics, x2 test, Fisher's exact test, t-test were used to determine the participant's characteristics. The effect of warm scarf on xerostomia and sore throat were separately estimated by Repeated Measures ANOVA. Results: The experimental group showed significant decrease of xerostomia and sore throat as time goes (p<.001). Conclusion: Results indicate that warm scarf on xerostomia and sore throat in postoperative colon cancer patients is helpful method for relieving side effect of tracheal intubation.

  • The application of bonded dissimilar materials to industries as automobiles, aircraft, rolling stocks, electronic devices and engineering structures is increasing gradually because these materials, compared to the homogeneous materials, have many advantages for material properties. In spite of such wide applications of bonded dissimilar materials, the evaluation method of quantitative strength considering the stress singularities for its bonded interface has not been established clearly. In this paper, the stress singularity for Bctors and the stress intensity factors were analyzed by boundary element method(BEM) for the scarf joints of Al/Epoxy with and without a crack, respectively. From static fracture experiments of the bonded scarf joints, a fracture criterion and a evaluation method of interface strength in bonded dissimilar materials were proposed and discussed.

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the high-frequency gluing characteristics of poly vinyl acetate emulsion adhesive(PVAc) on MDF edge-glued boards. The edge-glued boards were glued lengthwise with butt, scarf, or finger joint. The wastes of MDF boards were reused as board materials. The obtained results are summarized as follows; the bending strength of edge-glued MDF increased slightly with the HF heating time, but the economically desirable heating time was 6 minutes. The bending and tensile strength of edge-glued MDF were high with scarf, finger and butt joint, in order. The strength of finger jointed MDF showed 80% of scarf jointed MDF. The effects of location of finger joints on the bending strength of edge-glued MDF were larger than those of the numbers of finger joints. The bending strength of edge-glued MDF with one joint on the middle position showed 40% decrease in comparison with non-jointed MDF.

  • In this study, The Von Mises stresses in composite plate loaded in tension and repaired by a boron/epoxy scarf patch were analyzed using the finite element method. The performance of the repairs depends on several parameters: the dimensions and the intrinsic properties of the patch and the adhesive which are dependent on each other. Therefore, the method of experiment designs is used to determine the interaction effect of different parameters (patch folds), their optimum and the most influential parameter. The optimum of stacking sequences allows reducing stresses significantly, and thus permits designers to improve the quality of repairs.
