Korea is one of the typical rice eating countries where availability of animal protein is limited even for the growing generation. Nutritive food products for infants and children are not available commercially in large scale at the present time, although a limited amount of expensive milk products are produced. The present study deals with a pioneering attempt on a new food mixture to meet this demand. Several food mixtures, possibly produced in the country, consisting of rice, soybean, FPC, vitamin, minerals and other food additives are developed in this work Sixty female and male rats aged $30{\sim}40$ days were divided into five groups, twelve rats each. The rats had been maintained with the six different diets, as follow. Formulation of proposed infant food mixturesComposition F-R-1 F-S-2 F-F-3 F-P-4 S Rice 100% 40% 37% 46% 70% Sugar - 12 13 10 70 Casein - - - - 20 Bean - 40 37 24 - Yeast - 3 2 3 - Mineral Vitamain - 2 4 2 4.3 F.P.C - 3 4 7 - Fat - - 4 8 4 Cod liver Oil - - - - 3 The findings of this study presented in FER, PER, final organ weights, body weights growth, percentage of nitrogen retention in the body. F-P-4 group tended to remain the heaviest and F-R-1 the lightest in the body weight among three groups throughout the experimental period. In terms of FER (Feed Efficiency Ratio) and PER (Prortein E. R.) value, F-P-4 group kept the highest record throughout. F-P-4 group showed the highest value of nitrogen retention in the body. In comparision between F-P-4 groups and casein 20% group (standard) in all respects of this experiment, F-P-4 group which is the most superior among experimental group, revealed statisfically no significant inferior than that of standard group. This fact could be interpreted that most limiting a. a., methionine in the soy protein produced little inferiority of the experimental groups in the study.
The biodegradation of aromatic compounds by mixed and monoculture was investigated in an artificial wastewater containing 500 mg/l of benzene(B), phenol(P), and toluene(T) in various combinations. None of three strains utilized P-xylene(X) as a carbon source, but they grew well on p-xylene in mixtures with benzene and toluene. In the mixed culture on mixed substrate, the length of lag phase was different depending on the nature of mixture. Cell growths of Flavobac- terium sp. BEN2 and Acinetobacter sp. GEM63 were inhibited in the presence of a 500 mg/l of phenol. When the mixed culture of three strains was cultured in a bench-scale reactor containing artificial wastewater, each of benzene, phenol, and toluene was not detected at 30 hrs, 50 hrs, and 12 hrs after incubation in the treatment. The removal rates of COD$_{t}$(total COD) and COD$_{s}$,(soluble COD) of upper phase after centrifugation during early 50 hrs were ca. 80% and ca. 93.8%, respectively.

A laboratory- scale dual-column biofilter system was used to study the biofiltration of dimethyl disulfide (DMDS). The gas flow rate and DMDS concentration to the biofilter were varied to study their effect on the remov-al of dimethyl disulfide. Operating parameters such as pH, temperature, and water content were monitored during the biofilter operation and necessary precautions were taken to keep these parameters within the acceptable limits. It was observed that the removal efficiency of DMDS was optimal at neutral pH values. After five month op-eration, the neutralization of the filter beds with sodium carbonate became necessary for the optimum operation of the biofilters. The microbial population already present in the compost mixtures was found to be adequate in treat-ing DMDS. The compost mixtures were found to be similar in terms of biofiltration efficiency of DMDS. However, pressure drops observed in the first column compost mixture (compost/ peat mulch) was extremely high, making this compost economically not feasible. The second mixture (compost/bark) provided pressure drops within accept-able limits. A minimum residence time of 30 seconds at the optimal operating conditions appeared to be adequate for achieving high removal efficiencies (>90%).

The influence of mixing on biogas production and organic material removal performance of solid state anaerobic digestion of dairy manure and sawdust bedding mixtures was evaluated using 22 L volume lab-scale digesters. After 45 days of anaerobic digestion at $37^{\circ}C$, cumulative methane yield of unmixed test unit ($73.1N{\cdot}mL/g-VS$) was almost 1.3 times of that of mixed one ($56.3N{\cdot}mL/g-VS$). The biodegradable volatile solids removal rate of unmixed test unit was 67%, which was almost 28% greater than mixed one. Our results reveal that unmixed condition is better than mixed one in terms of biogas production and organic material reduction.

In this study, a new lab-scale test equipment was developed to evaluate the variation of concrete workability after pumping. The equipment was designed to simulate the pressure and shearing applied to concrete during actual pumping. In order to examine the feasibility of evaluating variation of concrete workability through lab-scale test equipment, real-scale pumping tests and lab-scale tests were performed together. The design strength of concrete used in the both tests was 24, 35, and 60MPa, and the length of pipe used in pumping tests was 130, 304, and 518m. The lab-scale tests were performed in consideration of actual pumping conditions(pressure, shearing, and pumping duration time). The workability(slump or slum flow) of concrete was measured before test, after the pumping test, and after lab-scale test. In all tests, workability of all concrete mixtures decreased. In addition, the results of both tests were measured greatly similarly.
Solvatochromic comparison methods were applied to determine Taft's solvent parameters, ${\pi}^{\ast}$(solvent polarity-polarizability), ${\alpha}$(solvent hydrogen bond donor acidity) and ${\beta}$ (solvent hydrogen bond acceptor basicity) for MeOH-MeCN solvent mixtures. Swain's solvent parameters A(anion solvation scale) and B(cation solvation scale) were also determined by least square fitting of kinetic data in the same binary solvent mixtures. It was found that: (i)${\beta}$ depends on the basicity of the solvent and increases with the MeOH content owing to the increase in polymeric structure of methanol; (ii) ${\pi}^{\ast}$depends on the dipole moment of the solvent and increases with the MeCN content of the solvent; (iii) ${\alpha}$ increases rapidly with the MeOH content as the hydrogen bond donor acidity of the solvent mixtures increases. Taft's reaction constants a and s and Swain's reaction constants a and b were determined for the reactions reported from our laboratory previously using solvent parameters determined in this work. No meaningful inter-relationship was found between the two set of reaction parameters, but a good linear correlation was found between the ratios a/s and a/b. Solvent effect on the reaction mechanism, substituent effect and leaving group ability were examined in the light of these reaction constants ratios.
We previously showed that five strains belonging to Pseudomonas could remove TPH (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons) efficiently when they are applied to TPH-contaminated soil. We optimized the bioremediation condition using different hydrocarbons and nutrients conditions to improve the efficiency. We setup lab-scale column bioreactor to monitor TPH and diesel removal efficiency. When we applied five Pseudomonas sp. mixtures to 25,000 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ TPH-contaminated soil (diesel 10,000 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$, kerosene 10,000 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$, gasoline 5,000 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$) with the optimum condition, 76.3% of TPH removal efficiency was shown for 25 days. Meanwhile, in the application of five Pseudomonas sp. mixtures to 20,000 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ diesel-contaminated soil with the optimum condition, 99.2% of diesel removal efficiency was shown for 40 days. In the application to lab-scale bioreactor with five high efficiency bacteria, 88.5% of TPH removal efficiency was shown for 45 days. Based on the results from this study, we confirmed that this mixed Pseudomonas sp. consortium might improve the bioremediation of TPH in contaminated soil, the efficacy can be controlled by improving the nutrients. We also confirmed that the nutrients and oxygen for biodegradation of TPH could contribute on the management and control of applications of these strains for the study of bioremediation of TPH-contaminated soil.

Recently, the pavement distresses in the bridge deck have seriously affected the durability of bridge deck and driver's safety. The existing asphalt materials have the limitations in reducing the pavement distresses of brides deck. To protect the bridge deck and withstand the high deflection, it is necessary to develop the asphalt materials with good fatigue resistance for bridge deck pavement. The asphalt binder combined with SBS and two other admixtures has been developed for improving the resistance to fatigue cracking, productivity, and workability for bridge deck pavement. Based on the various binder test results, the developed binder is found to be PG 70-34 indicating very higher resistance against fatigue cracking. Fatigue testing, wheel tracking testing, and moisture susceptibility testing have been conducted to evaluate the performance of asphalt mixtures developed in this study. Laboratory test results show that the developed asphalt material has three times higher fatigue lives than the typical modified asphalt mixture. Full scale accelerated testing was also performed on the typical asphalt mixture and newly developed asphalt mixture to evaluate the full scale performance of asphalt mixtures. Test results indicate that the length of cracking on the new materials is only 38% of the typical material at the 250,000 load repetitions.

The thermal-hydraulics phenomena in a containment during an accident will necessarily include radiative heat transfer (i) within the gas mixture due to the high radiative absorption and emission of steam and (ii) between the gas mixture and the surrounding structures. The analysis of some previous PANDA experiments (PSI, Switzerland) demonstrated the importance of the proper modelling of radiation for the benefit of numerical simulations. These results together with dedicated scoping calculations conducted for the present experiments indicated that the radiative heat transfer is considerable, even for a very low amount of steam (≈2%). The H2P2 series conducted in the large-scale PANDA facility at the Paul-Scherrer-Institut (PSI) in the framework of the OECD/NEA HYMERES-2 project is intended to enhance the understanding of thermal radiation phenomena and to provide a benchmark for corresponding numerical simulations. Thus, the test matrix was tailored around the two opposite extremes: either gas compositions with small steam content such that radiative heat transfer phenomena can be neglected. Or gas mixtures containing larger amounts of steam, so that radiative heat transfer is expected to play a dominant role. The H2P2 series consists of 5 experiments designed to isolate the radiation phenomena from convective and diffusive effects as much as possible. One vessel with a diameter of 4 m and a height of 8 m was preconditioned with different mixtures of air / steam at room and elevated temperatures. This was followed by the build-up of a stable helium stratification at constant pressure in the upper part of the vessel. After that, helium was injected from the top into the vessel which leads to an increase of the vessel pressure and a corresponding elevation-dependent and transient rise of the gas temperature. It is shown that even the addition of small amounts of steam in the initial gas atmosphere considerably impacts the radiative heat transport throughout all phases of the experiments and markedly influences i) the monitored gas peak temperature, ii) the temperature history during the compression and iii) the following relaxation phase after the compression was stopped. These PANDA experiments are the first of its kind conducted in a large scale thermal-hydraulic facility.
An aim of the study is to develop an efficient numerical simulation technique that can handle the two-scale analysis of fluid permeation filters fabricated by the partial sintering technique of small spherical ceramics. A solid-fluid mixture homogenization method is introduced to predict the mechanical characters such as rigidity and permeability of the porous ceramic filters from the micro-scale geometry and configuration of partially-sintered particles. An extended finite element (X-FE) discretization technique based on the enriched interpolations of respective characteristic functions at fluid-solid interfaces is proposed for the non-interface-fitted mesh solution of the micro-scale analysis that needs non-slip condition at the interface between solid and fluid phases of the unit cell. The homogenization and localization performances of the proposed method are shown in a typical two-dimensional benchmark problem whose model has a hole in center. Three-dimensional applications to the body-centered cubic (BCC) and face-centered cubic (FCC) unit cell models are also shown in the paper. The 3D application is prepared toward the computer-aided optimal design of ceramic filters. The accuracy and stability of the X-FEM based method are comparable to those of the standard interface-fitted FEM, and are superior to those of the voxel type FEM that is often used in such complex micro geometry cases.
