  • The microstructures of the oxide scale developed at high temperature on steels are very complex and their development depends on many factors including time, temperature, oxidation conditions and alloying elements. The classical model of an oxide scale on steel consisting of wüstite, magnetite and haematite layers, is more complicated in reality and its properties change with the factors that affect their development. An understanding of the oxide scale formation and its properties can only be achieved by careful examination of the scale microstructure. The oxide scale microstructure may be difficult to characterise by conventional techniques such as optical or standard scanning electron microscopy. An unambiguous characterisation of the scale and the correct identification of the phases within the scale are difficult unless the crystallographic structure for each phase in the scale is considered and a simultaneous microstructure-microtexture analysis is carried out. In the current study Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) has been used to investigate the microstructure of iron oxide layers grown on low carbon steels at different times and temperatures. EBSD has proved to be a powerful technique for identifying the individual phases in the oxide scale accurately. The results show that different grain shapes and sizes develop for each phase in the scale depending on time and temperature.

  • The purpose of this paper is to model price formation and analyze demand structures for fishes under the restriction of Korean fisheries regulations. This study suggests the model that the price of fish is formed by its quantity, expenditure, and habit persistence. In economic literature, such a fishery market demand is called the inverse demand with dynamic habit persistence. Based upon a static differential price formation model, the paper has generalized it dynamically incorporating habit persistence effects. The empirical results show that all the species have values less than one and (-) sign of price flexibilities, thus being price inflexible. The estimated habit adjustment coefficients are significant at the level of 1%. Especially, TAC species have the smaller values of them than those of other main fish species. The contribution and results are summarized as follows. First, the fishery market demand has a strong dynamic effects from habit persistence. Second, the fishery market demand structure could be analyzed in a way different from the ordinary demand analysis, which is based upon price flexibility, scale flexibility, and cross adjustment flexibility. Third, the limitation of this paper is that it ignores the increasing stock effects by catching restrictions, thus raising consumers' benefit in the future.

  • We have identified the candidates for the primordial galaxies in the process of formation in the Hubble Deep Field (hereafter HDF). In order to select these objects we have removed objects brighter than 29-th magnitude in the HDF images and smoothed the maps with the Gaussian filters with the FWHM of 0.8' and 4' to obtain the difference maps. This has enabled us to find. very faint diffuse structures close to the sky level. Peaks are identified in the difference map for each of three HDF chips with three filters (F450W, F606W, and F814W). They have the apparent AB magnitudes typically between 29 and 31. The objects identified in different wavelengths filters have a strong cross-correlations. The correlation lengths are about 0.8'. This means that an object found in one filter can be also found as a peak within 0.8' separation in another filter, thus telling the reality of the identified objects. This angular scale is also the size of the primordial galaxies which have strong color fluctuations on their surfaces. Their large-scale distribution quite resembles that of nearby galaxies, supporting the idea that these objects are ancestors of the present bright galaxies forming at statistically high density regions. Inspections on individual objects show that these primordial galaxy candidates have tiny multiple glares embedded in diffuse backgrounds. Their radial light distributions are quite different from that of nearby bright galaxies. We may be now looking at the epoch of galaxy formation.

  • Open clusters consisting of a co-spatial and coeval population with a similar chemical composition are a superb astrophysical test bed in both stellar and galactic astronomy. We introduce not only several scientific issues relating to these objects but also comprehensive studies of the two young open clusters Westerlund 1 and IC 1848 formed in extremely different star-forming conditions. Westerlund 1 is known as the most massive starburst cluster in the Galaxy. Located in the Scutum-Centaurus spiral arm, the cluster is relatively close to the Galactic Center. The apparent surface density is very high. On the other hand, IC 1848 is a core cluster within the large-scale star-forming region W5 lying in the Perseus arm. Unlike Westerlund 1, IC 1848 with a putatively low metallicity exhibits a low surface density. We present the fundamental parameters of those young clusters, such as reddening, distance, and age, obtained from the broadband photometric analysis. The stellar initial mass function (IMF) of the clusters is used to investigate the effects of the different star-forming conditions on the star formation activity. With the results of previous studies for several young open clusters, our preliminary results support a possibility that star formation activity may be affected by the environmental factors or the initial condition of natal clouds. In addition, we shortly discuss the age scale and spread of pre-main sequence stars to understand the formation processes of star clusters.

  • Nearby spiral galaxies M101 and M81 are considered to have undergone a galaxy-galaxy interaction. M101 has experienced HI gas infall due to the interaction. With AKARI far-infrared (IR) photometric observations, we found regions with enhanced star forming activity, which are spatially close to regions affected by the interaction. In addition, the relation between the star formation rate (SFR) and the gas content for such regions shows a significant difference from typical spiral arm regions. We discuss possible explanations for star formation processes on a kiloparsec scale and the association with interaction-triggered star formation. We also observed the compact group of galaxies Stephan's Quintet (SQ) with the AKARI Far-infrared Surveyor (FIS). The SQ shows diffuse intergalactic medium (IGM) due to multiple collisions between the member galaxies and the IGM. The intruder galaxy NGC 7318b is currently colliding with the IGM and causes a large-scale shock. The 160 micron image clearly shows the structure along the shock ridge as seen in warm molecular hydrogen line emission and X-ray emission. The far-IR emission from the shocked region comes from the luminous [CII]$158{\mu}m$ line and cold dust (~ 20 K) that coexist with molecular hydrogen gas. Survival of dust grains is indispensable to form molecular hydrogen gas within the collision age (~ 5 Myr). At the stage of the dusty IGM environment, [CII] and $H_2$ lines rather than X-ray emission are powerful cooling channels to release the collision energy.

  • Model alloys Fe-9Cr, Fe-20Cr and Fe-20Cr-20Ni (wt. %) with 0.1 and 0.2 % Si were exposed to $Ar-20CO_2-20H_2O$ gas at $818^{\circ}C$. The undoped alloys formed a thick iron-rich oxide scale. The additions of Si reduced scaling rates of Fe-9Cr to some extent but significantly suppressed the formation of iron oxide scales on Fe-20Cr and Fe-20Cr-20Ni. Carburisation also occurred in all undoped alloys, but not in Si-containing Fe-20Cr and Fe-20Cr-20Ni. Protection against carburisation was a result of the formation of an inner scale layer of silica.

  • Although the third-party logistics are activated and researched in many ways in the advanced countries, China is still on the beginning phase of the third-party logistics and has announced few studies on them. Especially, the study on factors affecting formation for partnership between shippers and third-party logistics providers has never been announced in China, and few empirical studies on them have been done. In order to verify established hypothesis, the empirical analysis is conducted as follows. Totally 500 copies of questionnaire were drawn up and distributed. Amid them 160 copies were collected, finally 155 copies were used for this study as valid samples. The questionnaire used nominal scale and 5 Likert scale. Statistics of collected data were under the data coding process, and analyzed by applying SEM program.

  • We reexamined CDM texture large-scale structure (LSS) formation model. We confirmed that texture model is consistent with 4-year COBE data both in an open and a critical matter density (${\Omega}_0$ = 1) universes, and then obtained normalization for density perturbation power spectrum. We next compare the power spectrum with LSS observation data. Contrary to the previous literature, we found that texture model matches with these data in an open universe no better than in an ${\Omega}_0$ = 1 universe. We also found that the model is more likely to fit these data in a cosmological constant dominated ($\Lambda-$) universe.

  • Service industries are rapidly increased and the environment of service is also changing in healthcare settings. Those make them change their management strategies and carry out many researches. Till now, single-item behavioral intention scale or direct measuring has some limitations that we have to consider its efficiency and it is difficult to explain phenomena of broad part in the process of determining behavioral intentions. In this paper, we examine the dimensionality of healthcare service in Korea through the multi-item behavioral intention scale. In addition, we are going to investigate the nature of the relationship between service quality perceptions which have unique construct, and consumer satisfaction judgements in the formation of consumers' behavioral intentions. we are going to conclude that the linear combination model of service quality and customer satisfaction can describe the process of formation of customers' behavioral intentions best and provide some managerial implications to decision makers for redistribution of materials and human resources.

  • Cyclic hot corrosion studies have been carried out on(82~94) wt. % Fe-(5, 10, 15) wt. % Cr alloys con-taining either (1, 3)wt. % of Si or Pt as minor alloying elements in molten salts of($Na_2SO_4$+NaCl) between 820 and $920^{\circ}C$. Si or Pt decreased corrosion rate with the most pronounced effect being observed for alloys having 15wt. %Cr. Especially, as Si or Pt contents are increased from 1 to 3 wt. %, improved corrosion resistance was obtained. The beneficial effect of Si addition is due to the presence of the Si-rich second phase along the grain boundaries as well as the formation of the protective $SiO_2$layer between substrates and oxide scale. The Pt addition also increased the corrosion resistance by enhancing the formation ($Cr_2O_3$+layers and by increasing the adherence of the oxide scale.
