This study was carried out to explore for the possibility of recycling the pine wood sawdusts for the substrate for enokitake (Flammulina velutipes) cultivation. The wood species of sawdusts cultivated for enokitake mushroom were identified mostly as hard pine (Pinus spp.). Distribution of enokitake hyphae was restricted to ray parenchymas and tracheids exposed to fungi. Nevertheless, degree of cell wall degradation by enokitake was slight. Light microscopic observation showed the thinning of secondary cell wall in some tracheids. Under polarized microscopy the 1()ss of birefringence was observed only in a few latewood tracheids. All the middle lamella remained intact. The present work showed clearly that pine sawdusts used as substrate for enokitake cultivation held enough cell wall materials for mushroom cultivation. The relative resistance of softwood cell walls against enokitake fungus was also discussed.

In this study, oil palm biomass such as empty fruit bunch (EFB) and palm kernel shell (PKS) was used as raw materials for making pellets. Hardwood sawdusts were also mixed with EFB and PKS for making pellets. For improving a bad forming behavior in a pelletizer, 1 to 3 per cent of corn starch based on oven-dried weight biomass was added. The starch contributed to the decrease of dust generation in addition to the improvement of forming capability during pellet forming. Heating values of every pellets made of EFB and PKS were higher than 4,300 kcal/kg for the first grade pellet, irrespective of addition of sawdusts. However, the pellets made of EFB and PKS had ash contents over 3 per cent, which made it impossible to be applied for home use. Instead, they could be applied for industrial use. For studying their combustion characteristics, the pellets from the mixtures of EFB, PKS and sawdusts were analyzed using thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA). From the TGA results, thermal decomposition of EFB and PKS occurred following three including endothermic reaction and dehydration, devolatilization of the major chemical components, and finally combustion of residual lignin and char.
This study was carried out to obtain the basic data on artificial culture of Phellinus linteus. The suitable sorts of sawdusts artifical culture for Phellinus linteus were an oak sawdust, a mulberry sawdust, a peach sawdust. Rice bran, wheat bran and corn seed peel were found to be effective additives, and optimun mixing ratio of an oak sawdust and additives was from $70{\sim}80$ to $20{\sim}30$ percent. The suitable moisture content of sawdust media was obtained in the range of $65{\sim}70%$. The mixture of percent oak sawdust with 20 percent rice bran in polypropylene (850 cc) bottle was suitable for starter production, and it took 55 days to produce the starters at $25^{\circ}C$.
Several microbial biocontrol products (Greenbiotech Co., Paju, Korea), Green-all T (Trichoderma harzianum), Green-all S(Bacillus sp.) and Green-all G (Streptomyces sp.) were supplemented with organic amendments such as sawdusts and rice hulls to study on efficacy of biological control of seeding damping-off of cucumber caused by Pythium ultimum. Sawdusts amended into potato dextrose agar alone could inhibit in vitro mycelial growth of P. ultimum. All there microbial products of Green-all T, Green-all G and Green-all S significantly reduced seeding damping-off (LSD, P=0.05). However, several amendments such as sawdusts and rice hulls into Green-all T and Green-all S products did not increase efficacy of biological control compared to non-amended treatment. In contrast, supplements of aminodoctor containing several amino acids (Greenbiotech Co., Korea) into Green-all G product significantly increased efficacy of biological control of seeding damping-off, resulting in from 42% to 2% disease incidence in relation to seedling emergence (LSD, P=0.05). Also, amendment of sawdusts into Tricoderma product significantly increased efficacy of biological control as disease index of 5.0 compared to non-amended control of 56.0 in Green-all T product alone. This indicates that organic amendments could increase efficacy of biological control of cucumber seedling damping-off.

Present experiments were conducted to determine the possibility of artificial culture with various sawdust of P. gilvus. The pH value was 6.0 of oak sawdust, 6.5 of mulberry sawdust, 6.6 of elm sawdust, 6.3 of acacia sawdust and 6.1 of apple tree sawdust. Mycelial density on elm sawdust and acacia sawdust were lower than those of oak sawdust, and apple sawdust. Weight of fresh fruiting body showed that 179 g on oak tree, 227 g on oak sawdust, 21 g on elm tree, 76 g on elm sawdust, 106 g on apple tree, and 170 g on apple sawdust. Among them, the yield of oak substrates was the highest whereas acacia sawdust was the lowest, and it is concluded that the yields of sawdust substrates were higher than log substrates. P. gilvus grown on various sawdusts and logs used in this study have shown similar in anti-tumor activity against P388.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of moisture content, temperature, C/N ratio and pH of the sewage sludge mixed with hulle and sawdusts for making compost under aerobic condition and to improve the defect of the structure of experimental equipment heat lose and handling method. and obtained results were as follows 1.The temperature was reached 73$^{\circ}$ C around 50 hours fermentation in the condition of 0.8 L/min. of air and 60.4% of moisture content. and favorable moisture content of initial condition ranged from 50 to 65% 2.The temperature near bottom of the batch composter was decreased due to evaporate water vapor and lose the heat produced during aeration. and it is required to be improved. 3.The temperature in the batch composter from the center to the inside wall surface was gradually decreased. the temperatures of the points located in r=9cm and the wall surface were 4$^{\circ}$ C and 6$^{\circ}$ C respectively. and therefore it is required to be insulated. 4. The maximum C02 production was obtained as 7.3% per volume in the temperature of 63$^{\circ}$C at the moisture content of 60% 5.The temperature range of active microbes growth was found to be as 20$^{\circ}$C to 40$^{\circ}$C in the case of mesophiles and 50$^{\circ}$C to 65$^{\circ}$C in the case of thermophiles due to increase and decrease C02 production. 6.C/N ratio after decomposition was 1.3 to 2.6 smaller than that of initial one due to increase the amount of nitrogen. The more C/N ratio increased. the less the reaction velocity decresed. The optimum of it as found to be 30. 7.pH values after decomposition were slightly increased than that of initial ones. The reaction velocity was decreased at acid and alkall condition. Therefore it is neseseary to neutralize the medium to improve the reaction.
To enhance the utilization of Larch(Larix leptolepis Gorden) wood, the sawdusts were tested as cultivating media for Lentinus edodes(Mori 290) by varying the composition of the media. The economic efficiency for producing mushrooms from larch sawdusts was evaluated. The results are as follows. 1. Larch sawdust was as much efficient as oak sawdust in the growth of the mycelia and production of good quality of oak mushrooms. 2. The mushrooms were able to be harvested starting six months after beginning the cultivation. No differences were found among the qualities of the mushrooms produced by various treatments. 3. The contents of lignin(28.6-28.7%) in the fresh sawdust of larchwood are higher than those in the residues of the used media(18.2%). But lignin content of 1% NaOH extracts(30.4-34.4%) in fresh sawdust of larch was lower than those in the residues(68.0%). 4. The production of mushroom was relatively high to be 29.7-31.5%(760-780g.)/2.5kg pack) of mushroom weight. The net profit estimated was 1,475Won per pack.
The transitivity of Chemical constituents by Pleurotus ostreatus cultivated in different raw sawdusts, which are Juglans mandchurica, Cudrania tricuspidata and Lindera glauca, was investigated. The HPLC chromatography patterns on the chemical constituents of P. ostreatus showed the similar chromatography patterns in all different raw sawdusts and control sawdust. The unknown chemical constituents of P. ostreatus cultivated in the 10%, 20% mixed medium added 10 %, 20% different raw sawdusts, respectively, were increased. But the significance results in the mixed medium added 50% different raw sawdusts were not showed. The chromatography patterns of mycelia grown in media added the 80% MeOH extracts of three tree species showed the similar patterns in comparison with control mycelia. In the results, the secondary metabolites of functional media were not degrade and changed to other derivatives compounds by P. ostreatus.
