한.미 FTA 체결에 따른 저축은행의 성장전략 모색 (Groping for Growth Strategy of Savings Bank as a result of signing the Korea-U.S. FTA)

  • Domestic industries are facing the open era as a result of signing the Korea-U.S. FTA with no exception to the financial industry. The FFA between two countries is expected to produce pros and cons for domestic financial industry. Therefore, it is very important to minimize the shock caused by opening our financial market and to adopt the advanced financial tools actively. Signing the Korea-U.S. FTA and enforcing the Integration Law of Capital Market are leading a big crisis to the Savings Banks which have been shrinking under the dramatically changing domestic financial environment since the financial crisis. To cope with financial globalization, Korean Savings Banks are demanded to build up their concrete identity and reposition their status. This is related to shaping the long-term position of domestic financial industry. Therefore, the Savings Banks must take the growth strategy for their survival, and it is an inescapable choice. Several options are available: big scale operation and diversification of business functions, reinforcement of local-focused mediating function of funds, establishment of strategic alliance with other financial firms, reinforcement of risk management system and core competence, nourishment and employment of professional manpower, and active deregulation and policy support. When the Savings Banks are refurbished as an independent local bank performing the central role of local finance, the bright future can be their destiny under the enormously changing global financial environment. Also, two more conditions need to be satisfied: to establish horizontal networks among local banks directed by cooperative Korea Federation of Savings Banks to reverse the weak scale position, and to satisfy their own peculiar niche market with internal countermeasure to face global financial networks.

화물품목 분류에 따른 대도시권 공로화물운송의 시간가치 산정 (Value of Travel-Time Savings in Metropolitan Road Freight Transportation with Freight Classification Code)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 화주가 공로화물운송에서 나타내는 효용을 화물의 품목에 따라 나타내고 자 하였다. 화물교통에서 화주의 효용은 시간가치의 크기를 이용하여 얻을 수 있다. 화물의 특성은 매우 다양하기 때문에 화주의 효용 또한 매우 폭넓게 변화한다. 최근에 화물운송의 시간가치를 산정하는 소수의 연구가 있었으나 대부분 철도나 해운을 포함하여 공로화물운송에 대한 독자적인 시간가치는 얻지 못하였다. 연구에서는 화물의 품목분류에 따라 공로화물운송의 시간가치를 산정하였다. 시간가치의 산정을 위해 현시선호 방법과 이항로짓모형이 이용되었고 연구자료는 1998년도에 수도권을 대상으로 시행된 물동량 조사자료를 이용하였다. 조사자료는 화물품목분류에 따라 분할하였고 분할된 그룹에 따라 19개의 이항로짓모형이 추정되었다. 연구결과 화물운송의 시간가치는 화물의 품목에 따라 16,441원/시간·대부터 66.769원/시간·대까지 분포하는 것으로 나타났다.

저축은행 재무건전성 결정요인에 대한 연구 (A Study on Determinants of Financial Soundness of Savings Banks)

  • 본 연구는 저축은행의 재무건전성에 미치는 결정요인들을 분석하였다. 특히 구조조정 이후 예대율이 재무건전성과 어떠한 상관관계를 가지는지 실증분석 하였다. 2014년 저축은행 구조조정이 마무리되면서 자산운용에 변화가 있었으며, 최근 또 다시 재무건전성을 우려하고 있는 상황에서 저축은행 재무건전성에 미치는 재무특성 변수에 대한 분석이 요구되는 시점이다. 분석결과를 요악하면, 저축은행의 예대율과 고정이하여신비율 간의 관계는 1% 유의수준에서 음(-)의 값을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 예대율이 높을수록 고정이하여신비율이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 예대율이 높다는 것은 대출재원으로 예금이외의 시장성 수신 등을 이용할 가능성이 높다는 것이다. 이는 저축은행의 입장에서 공격적인 대출포트폴리오를 구축하는 것이 쉽지 않을 가능성이 존재한 결과라고 할 수 있다. 즉 저축은행이 예수금을 통한 대출재원 조달이 어려울수록 위험회피성향이 강하게 나타날 수 있음을 시사하고 있다. 그 외 기업대출비중, 평균이자비용, 경제성장률이 높을수록 위험지표가 높게 나타났으며, 자산규모가 크고, 대출증가율이 높을수록 위험지표가 낮게 나타났다. 예대율 증가는 위험추구행위가 감소될 수 있으나 저축은행 재무건전성에 무조건 긍정적으로 작용함을 의미하는 것은 아니다. 따라서 예대율 규제를 통해 특정대출의 과도한 자산확대 유인을 감소하고, 대출 포트폴리오 관리를 통해 선제적 건전성 관리가 이루어져야 할 것이다.

춘천시 주거지구내 수목피도의 차이가 난냉방에너지 이용 및 비용에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Difference in Tree Cover on Use and Cost of Heating and Cooling Energy in Residential Neighborhoods of Chuncheon)

  • This study quantified shading, evapotranspiration and windspeed-reduction effects of trees on use and cost of heating and cooling energy in two residential neighborhoods of Chuncheon different in tree cover. Annual savings per residence of heating energy were approximately 1,210 MJ(1%) and those of cooling energy, 130 kWh(10%) in study district 1 having tree cover of about 10% . For district 2 with tree cover of about 20%, annual heating and cooling savings were 2,130 MJ(2%) and 180 kWh(19%) per residence, respectively. Trees annually saved energy costs by approximately ₩31,000 ($26, $1=₩1,200) per residence in district 1 and by ₩49,000($41) in district 2. One tree taller than 3 m resulted in annual energy savings of ₩8,000($7) in the study districts. Energy savings by trees in district 2, which had higher tree cover by 10% difference than district 1, were about 2 times greater than those in district 1. This implies that more tree plantings could enhance energy saving effects. Of the total costs saved, 58% was attributed to windspeed reduction and 47%, evapotranspiration. However, shading increased energy costs by 5% due to tree plantings at the wrong locations. Full tree plantings on the west and north of buildings and avoidance of shade-tree plantings of use of solar-friendly trees on the south are recommended to increase building energy savings efficiently.

The Use of Preferences under the EU - Korea FTA

  • Purpose - This paper describes the use of trade preferences under the EU-Korea free trade agreement (FTA) and empirically examines potential reasons for the less than full use, using data on daily EU imports from Korea at the product level. Design/methodology - We employ a probit model to analyse the relationship between the use of trade preferences on the one hand and variables such as potential duty savings, rules of origin and the characteristics of the good traded (intermediate input or final product) on the other. Findings - The paper finds that EU imports from Korea make good use of trade preferences with an overall preference utilisation rate of close to 90% in 2016, which is up from about 80% in 2012. It further shows that potential duty savings influence preference utilisation positively and that more than one quarter of the observations in our sample made use of preferences under EU-Korea FTA in 2012, despite duty savings standing at €10 or less. Originality/value - The finding that a non-negligible share of observations use preferences even when the duty savings are low has not yet figured in the literature. We further show how preference utilisation rates differ by importing EU Member State and by section of the Harmonised System and estimate the marginal impact of an increase in potential duty savings on the preference utilisation rate by broad product group, which is novel.

  • This study is to estimate economic benefits of Standardization R&D of Urban Rail System. Benefit was to be realized through standardization of main areas such as train vehicle, railway, power system, and signal system. To derive and calculate the quantitative benefit, the sources of economic impact was divided into three dimensions -operational cost savings, import substitution, and safety effects. Economic effect of the standardization was categorized based on a modified BSC model. Economic benefits from time and labor savings are converted into cost savings. Import substitution and investment multiplier effect have a positive impact in addition to cost savings. The estimation of the standardization R&D of Urban Rail System was conservatively estimated 370 billion Won. Cost effectiveness of standardized safety system was conservatively translated into economic benefit in this analysis. This study provides a practical guide to economic evaluation of the various railway R&D projects.

  • In this paper, an estimation methodology for stand-by energy savings of electric appliances is proposed and some case studies are carried out for televisions. The methodology is based on learning curves and diffusion models, which are able to explain the market characteristics such as market prices and the diffusion speed. Some models were developed to estimate power and energy savings for high-efficient appliances and these model have been used broadly. These models are also applied to this study and modified to estimate stand-by energy savings.

주광을 활용한 LED조명시스템의 컨트롤에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Control Strategy of LED System Using Daylight)

  • Visual Environment and productivity are correlated. So we need to create a comfortable visual environment and maintain proper workplane illumination level. We can obtain lighting energy savings and comfortable visual environment using daylight and LED lights. In this study, we characterized the indoor illuminance level according to the sky condition and proposed dimming control strategy of LED lights. Energy savings in On/Off control mode are 40% at clear sky and 28% at intermediate sky. In dimming control mode, energy savings are 77.2% at clear sky and 64.1% at intermediate sky. Then we obtain the appropriate dimming control strategy of LED lights based on data. Dimming rates are 0-14.2-80(min-avg-max, %) for LED 1, 0-19.9-60% for LED 2 and 30-61.4-90% for LED 3. Lighting energy savings are 68.2% for LED dimming system applied this control method.
