The calcium carbonate saturation state in the Ulleung Basin of East Sea was calculated using bottle data set of pH, dissolved inorganic carbon and total alkalinity obtained from the year 1999, 2014, 2017, and 2018 cruise. In the 2010s calcium carbonate saturation state was significantly lowered at all depth compared to the 1999 reference state. Accordingly calcite saturation horizon and aragonite saturation horizon shoaled to 500 m and 200 m, respectively. A key chemical species for the calcium carbonate saturation state, carbonate ion showed distinctive profile between upper and deep waters: it is moderately high (${\sim}175{\mu}mol\;kg^{-1}$) in upper waters and very low (< ${\sim}50{\mu}mol\;kg^{-1}$) in the deep waters. However the decreasing trend of carbonate ion concentration was pronounced in the upper water than deep waters, suggesting atmospheric $CO_2$ penetration is largely confined to the upper waters in the 2000s.

This paper deals with a nonlinear controller based on saturation functions with variable parameters for set-point regulation and trajectory tracking control of an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). In many cases, saturation functions with constant parameters are used to limit the input signals generated by a classical PD (Proportional-Derivative) controller to avoid damaging the actuators; however this abrupt bounded harms the performance of the controller. We, therefore, propose to replace the conventional saturation function, with constant parameters, by a saturation function with variable parameters to limit the signals of a PD controller, which is the base of the nonlinear PD with gravitational/buoyancy compensation and the nonlinear PD + controllers that we propose in this paper. Consequently, the mathematical model is obtained, considering the featuring operation of the underwater vehicle LIRMIA 2, to do the stability analysis of the closed-loop system with the proposed nonlinear controllers using the Lyapunov arguments. The experimental results show the performance of an AUV (LIRMIA 2) for the depth control problems in the case of set-point regulation and trajectory tracking control.
In harsh environments such as fog or fine dust, the cameras' detection ability for object recognition may significantly decrease. In order to accurately obtain important information even in bad weather, fog removal algorithms are necessarily required. Research has been conducted in various ways, such as computer vision/data-based fog removal technology. In those techniques, estimating the amount of fog through the input image's depth information is an important procedure. In this paper, a linear model is presented under the assumption that the image dark channel dictionary, saturation ∗ value, and sharpness characteristics are linearly related to depth information. The proposed method of haze removal through a linear model shows the superiority of algorithm performance in quantitative numerical evaluation.
Dental caries is the most common disease in the maxillofacial area. There are many factors contributing to its development, but complete understanding and prevention is not fully known. Since the structure of the coronal and root portion of the tooth is different, the remineralization and demineralization process is also known to be different. In this study, by using a partially saturated buffer solution, we created artificial enamel and dentin caries and evaluated mineral loss. A remineralization solution with four different degrees of saturation (degree of saturation ; group 1, 0.268, group 2, 0.309, group 3, 0.339, group 4, 0.390, PH 4.3, F-2ppm) was used on a demineralized specimen. The mineral precipitating quantity and depth was evaluated by using microradiography. Using an atomic force microscope (AFM), hydroxyapatite crystals of normal, demineralized, and remineralized enamel and dentin were evaluated. The results were as follows: 1. As the degree of saturation of the remineralizing solution increased, the mineral precipitation in the enamel was increased. In group 4, mineral precipitation was limited near the surface. 2. As the degree of saturation of the remineralizing solution increased, the mineral precipitation in the dentin was decreased and it occurred in a deeper portion. In group 4, however, mineral precipitation occurred on the surface and its quantity increased. 3. There was a statistically significant interaction between enamel and dentin mineral content changes on specimens treated with remineralization and demineralization solution (demineralization r=0.44, remineralization r=0.44, p<0.05). 4. Demineralized hydroxyapatite crystals showed central and peripheral dissolving and widening of intercrystal spaces under the AFM. 5. In dentin remineralization small crystal precipitation occurred between the large crystals. We conclude that by adjusting acidulated buffer solution's degree of saturation, we can control enamel and dentin remineralization. In addition, the AFM is highly useful in evaluating changes in remineralized and demineralized hydroxyapatite crystals.

This study examined how to improve the Korean Navy diving system, particularly focused on using the mobile saturation diving system. This study determined the range of navy operations, and suggested requirements of mobile saturation diving system from the analysis of previous study and current Navy Diving system. Also, this study examined the use of military strategy in terms of its technical and applicable possibility for the enhancement of current system. In addition, the study analyzed both advantages/disadvantages of importing mobile saturation diving system products and domestic development. To review measures in installing and operating such system, this study included analysis on the effectiveness of individual platform. As the result, the study suggested requirements of mobile saturation diving system to be able to be operated by more than 6 divers for more than 17 days at more than 200m depth. And the study confirmed that there are beneficial to use mobile saturation diving system and current Navy saturation diving system together. However, it is low economical efficiency to change current Navy gas diving system to Saturation diving system. To review measures in installing and operating such system, this study suggested that second ATS-II should be built to be able to install mobile saturation diving system. Also, this study generated an utilization method of the system to use it for training when peacetime, and than it should be installed on other platform to use as additional salvage strength during wartime.
The purpose of this study is to compare and to evaluate the effects of the degree of saturation on the progression of artificial root caries lesion. A total of 8 human premolars without any defects and cracks selected and the cementum were removed and the teeth were cleaned with ultrasonic device and pumice without fluoride. Each tooth was sectioned into 6 pieces and they were ground with #800 sandpaper until they had a thickness of 200pm. Specimens were applied with nail vanish except for the 2-3 mm window area after application of bonding agent. Under the constant pH, the specimens were divided into 6 groups (degree of saturation: 0.1415, 0.1503, 0.1597, 0.1676, 0.1771. 0.1977). Each group was immersed in acid buffer solution for 1. 2, 3, 5 days under controlled temperature ($25^{\circ}C$) and imbibed in water and examined using the polarizing microscope. The results were as follows 1. Although the degree of saturation of demineralization solution decreased, the depth of penetration in the dentin was constant. 2. Erosion was observed on the surface of all the teeth in the group I, II. In the group III, IV, V, surfaces were not changed. The teeth in the group VI showed the more mineralized surface but not the shape of the dentinal tubules distinctively. 3. In all groups, the lesion progressed rapidly at the first day of the experiment, but increased gradually as time elapsed.
The magnetoresistance and the saturation field behavior of the Co-Ag nano granular films as a function of the composition and the ferromagnetic underlayer and overlayermaterials were investigated. The maximum magnetoresistance of 23% and the saturation field of 2.3 kOe at room temperature were obtained in the as-deposited 3000$\AA$$Co_{30}Ag_{70}$ single alloy films. The magnetoresistance and the saturation field of 100$\AA$$Co_{30}Ag-{70}$ alloy film were 3.65 % and 3.0 kOe respectively. Those of the sandwiched films with 200$\AA$ Fe were 3.3 % and 1.23 kOe respectively. The saturation field of the sandwiched alloy films could be reduced by the exchange coupling between the ferromagnetic layers and the alloy layer. The effective depth of the exchange coupling was approximately 150$\AA$ in each Fe layer. Among the Fe, Co, and FeNi, the most effective materials to reduce the saturation field of the sandwiched alloy films was Fe.
Reduction of groundwater surface tension prior to air sparging (SEAS, surfactant-enhanced air sparging) was known to increase air saturation in the aquifer under influence, possibly enhancing the removal rates of volatile contaminants. Although SEAS was known to be efficient for increasing air saturation, little information is available for different hydrogeological settings including soil particle sizes and the depth of aquifer. We investigated water saturations in the sparging influence zone during SEAS using one-dimensional column packed with sands of different particle sizes and different aquifer depths. An anionic surfactant was used to suppress the surface tension of water. Two different sands were used; the air entry pressures of the sands were measured to be $15.0\;cmH_2O$, and $36.3\;cmH_2O$, respectively. No significant difference was observed in the water saturation-surface tension relationship for sands with different particle sizes. As the surface tension decreased, the water saturation decreased to a lowest point and then it increased with further decrease in the surface tension. Both sands reached their lowest water saturations when the surface tension was set approximately at 42 dyne/cm. SEAS was conducted at three different aquifer depths; 41 cm, 81 cm, and 160 cm. Water saturation-surface tension relationship was consistent regardless of the aquifer depth. The size of sparging influence zone during SEAS, measured using two-dimensional model, was found to be similar to the changes in air saturation, measured using one-dimensional model. Considering diverse hydrogeological settings where SEAS to be applied, the results here may provide useful information for designing SEAS process.
In this study an effective stress numerical procedure is used to assess the results of dynamic centrifuge tests under high effective stress. The centrifuge models consist of loose Nevada sand with an initial vertical effective stress of 380kPa at depth, and they are modeled as a one-dimentional soil column. Liquefaction occurred up to 37m or 22m at depth, and the onset of liquefaction triggering was opposite to the conventional liquefaction evaluation procedure. In other words, liquefaction occurs first at the top and propagates downward as shaking continues. The results observed in centrifuge tests are reasonably predicted by the effective stress model. It is noted that the degree of initial saturation and additional densification at depth arising from the application of the high acceleration field play a key role in capturing the results of dynamic centrifuge tests.
Dynamic compaction is a ground improvement technique which is particularly effective for loose granular soils. It has also been used successfully to the cohesive soils with high void ratio, and wastes and fills. For the design of dynamic compaction method, prediction of depth of improvement is very important. The depth of improvement is influenced not only by compaction energy but also by many parameters such as grid spacing, soil property, degree of saturation and site conditions. Based on the test results, the depth of improvement were evaluated with considering compaction energy, soil type and ground water level.
