The results of the study were as follows: First, it was shown that children of parents family had positive perception on the ego-resilience, family strength, and satisfaction with school life than children of nontraditional family. Second, in children with parents family, family strength is a more powerful predictor of satisfaction with school life than ego-resilience. Finally, in children with nontraditional family, ego-resilience is a more powerful predictor of satisfaction with school life than family strength. The results implicated that ego-resilience and family strength of children influence on their school life satisfaction differently according to their family structure and therefore it needed for family structure-based mediation program to improve children' school life.
This paper examines the effects of children related variables on the life satisfaction of the rural elderly. Data for this study were based on a study of 203 elderly people residing in Kyungnam, Korea. Elderly male achieved higher scores in life satisfaction than their female counterparts. Demographic variables, except for subjective financial status, failed to account for the significant variance in life satisfaction. There were gender differences on the effects of children related variables on life satisfaction. Number of children was significantly associated with the life satisfaction of the male elderly. For the female elderly, affectional solidarity and associational solidarity were significant Predictors to their life satisfaction. Associational solidarity had the strongest effect on life satisfaction of both male and female elderly. The results from this study suggest the relative importance of children related variables to the rural elderly.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine whether the maternal and paternal value of children mediates the relationship between the marital relationship satisfaction and the parental sense of competence in the longitudinal dyadic approach. Method: The data were obtained from the Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC) conducted by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education. Using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model(APIM), the author analyzed three waves (from 5th to 7th year) of the data, and the sample size was 1,773. The average age was 34.79 for mothers, and 37.26 for fathers. Their average length of marriage was 95.3 months, and their children were 51.03 months old on average. Results: The marital relationship satisfaction influenced the parental sense of competence with both the actor effect and the partner effect of mothers and fathers. The marital relationship satisfaction also influenced the value of children, with the actor effect from both mothers and fathers and with the partner effect only from mothers. The value of children influenced the parental sense of competence with the actor effect only from mothers and fathers. Also, the value of children mediated the relationship between the marital relationship satisfaction and the parental sense of competence with the actor effect from both mothers and fathers. For the partner effect, only the mediation path from fathers' marital relationship satisfaction to mothers' value of children to mothers' parental sense of competence was significant. Conclusions: These results suggest the importance of highlighting the marital relationship satisfaction and the value of children to improve the parental sense of competence.

But, the higher educational level, the higher life satisfaction was shown. The higher the economic status, the higher life satisfaction was shown. 2. The degree of life satisfaction had meaningful differences on the number of disease and health situation. The more disease they have, the lower life satisfaction was shown. 3. The life satisfaction of the rural old was highest when they live together with their married children than living alone. When they have spouse, the life satisfaction was high. And, as the relation with their children was close, the life satisfaction was high. So, it is thought the children have great influences to the rural old. 4. In the multiple regression analysis, It was found that physical health, the relationship with their children, perceived economic status, and unemployment of their children were effective variables in the old's life satisfaction.
This study examines the relationship between social support with adult children and neighbors on the life satisfaction of elderly individuals in rural areas. The analysis employed a sample of 764 elderly individuals residing in rural area. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, a chi-square test, a t-test, and a multiple regression analysis. First, the respondents reported moderate life satisfaction. Those respondents living alone were less likely to report life satisfaction than those with a spouse. Second, the respondents were more likely to be in contact with their neighbors than their adult children. Third, the respondents were more likely to receive social support from adult children than provide it to them. By contrast, the respondents were more likely to provide social support to neighbors than receive it from them. Fourth, economic status and contact with adult children and neighbors had signigicant effects on the life satisfaction of the respondents. Gender, religion, economic status, health status, increased contact with adult children, and instrumental support to neighbors had positive effects on the life satisfaction of elderly two-person household.
