  • In this paper, the feasibility of LEO(low earth orbit) satellite-based automatic identification system (SAT-AIS) for the coastal area of the South Korea is evaluated in the context of ship AIS transmission detection probability. We evaluate and compare AIS signal detection probability of ORBCOMM satellites and LEO-one satellites considering link budget, SOTDMA protocol and satellite's swath width. The simulation determines the total number of vessels served by those satellites according to satellite's swath width and thus, By simulation results, the ORBCOMM SAT-AIS system outperforms LEO-one SAT-AIS system. The suggested ORBCOMM based SAT-AIS system can be a solution to resolve the existing limited transmission distance problem of the conventional ship-to-shore AIS system.

  • This paper deals with Reed-Solomon Coding for EUROFIX system EUROFIX is an integrated navigation and communication system, which combines Differential GNSS and Loran-C EUROFIX transmits DGNSS(Differential Global Navigation Satellite Systems) (data by pulse position modulation of Loran-C pulses. Loran-C system is regarded as a satellite backup system in recent. And now, it is important to detect and correct much errors in communication systems. Error corrections or correction algorithm is actively studied nowadays because of this. In this paper, we study and design encoder and decoder of Reed Solomon Code using Finite Galois Field Fourier Transformation for error corrections in EUROFIX data transmission. Through extensive simulation, the designed Reed Solomon code is shown to be effective for error correction in EUROFIX data transmission.

  • Satellite communication is high-speed large-capacity transmission in such a manner as to communicate with satellites in the chamber, and there is a wide area communication, but is not the security of the information. To compensate for this, AES encryption was applied to the CTR and CBC mode. Also, Blockage channel using a Markov chain to determine the impact caused by obstacles such as trees or buildings between the transmitter and the receiver was composed of Urban and Open Environment. The results of analyzing the performance of satellite communications over a high-speed link-based simulation, If applying encryption, performance of security is complementary but performance of the BER was aggravated and In the Open Environment fewer obstacles confirmed the BER performance is improved than the Urban Environment many obstacles.

  • We must design the buffer algorithm that protects traffic congestion and decreasing throughput at satellite communication network. It is important that buffer algorithm is satisfied with the good performance of transmission packet, responsibility of many connecting traffic and the 005 for connecting character. Old buffer algorithms are not the suitable algorithms when we have the satellite communication network environment. RED buffer algorithm is proposed by Floyd. It has a better performance than old buffer algorithm. But this algorithm is not well adapted a number of connecting TCP packet and changing network, so this algorithm has a bad Performance on satellite communication network that is many of connecting user at same time. This paper Propose the TARED(Target Adaptive RED). It has a good performance, adaptation and stability on satellite communication network and has not overflow and underflow of the buffer level.

  • The capacity of Satellite DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) system is limited mainly by the interference. So, to achieve the expected performance of Satellite DMB system and to minimize the interference from other Satellite DMB system, ACI(Adjacent Channel Interference) should be considered carefully. Satellite DMB system uses the Gap-filler for effective transmission in terrestrial environment, and the Gap-filler can use direct amplification or frequency conversion to satisfy the specific requirements. Therefore, amplified signal causes several effects on interference between System A(Eureka 147 DAB) and System E(ISDB : Integrated services Digital Broadcasting). In this paper, by using the outcome of system-level simulation considering the results of link-level simulation, we analyze the interferences between System A and System E under practical situation based on the exact parameters of ITU-R BO. 1130-4. We also propose the appropriate level of guard band and Cell Radius to optimize system capacity by adapting the spectrum mask given in the spec. and utilizing the interference analysis between System A and System E.

  • In order to efficiently use defined satellite network resources, it is a priority to understand the performance and usage of the network. In this paper, in order to analyze the operational efficiency and stability of the system in the satellite communication system operated by K-water flood forecast and alarm network, FTP and ping testing and network traffic analysis methods of measuring download and upload speed between central and observational countries were introduced. As a result of measuring the transmission speed by the introduced test method, the effects of TCP accelerators have been improved by 120% upon download from the observational station. Through the performance test and traffic analysis of the satellite hydrologic observation system introduced, environmental improvement and improvement points of the satellite communication system were derived so that the operational efficiency and stability of the communication network could be expected.

  • In this paper, we present the design, manufacture and test results of Backend unit for SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) that can be applied on a small satellite. The Backend unit for SAR was designed with a control/storage board, TRX(transmission and receiving) board and a power supply board as a single unit in consideration of the applying of a small satellite. The control/storage board uses RFSoC to generate wideband chirp signal, generate operating timings, and perform control and calculations for SAR operation. The TRX board is designed to convert the wideband chirp signal generated by the control/storage board to the operating frequency of X-band by up-converting the frequency. Since small size, light weight, and low cost are important consideration for small satellite, MIL/Industrial grade components were appropriately applied and the at the same time it was designed to ensure mission life through the radiation test, analysis and space environment tests.

  • The State Space Representation (SSR) method provides individual corrections for each Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) error components. This method can lead to less bandwidth for transmission and allows selective use of each correction. Precise Point Positioning (PPP) - Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) is one of the carrier-based precise positioning techniques using SSR correction. This technique enables high-precision positioning with a fast convergence time by providing atmospheric correction as well as satellite orbit and clock correction. Currently, the positioning service that supports PPP-RTK technology is the Quazi-Zenith Satellite System Centimeter Level Augmentation System (QZSS CLAS) in Japan. A system that provides correction for each GNSS error component, such as QZSS CLAS, requires monitoring of each error component to provide reliable correction and integrity information to the user. In this study, we conducted an analysis of the performance of residual error bounding for each error component. To assess this performance, we utilized the correction and quality indicators provided by QZSS CLAS. Performance analyses included the range domain, dispersive part, non-dispersive part, and satellite orbit/clock part. The residual root mean square (RMS) of CLAS correction for the range domain approximated 0.0369 m, and the residual RMS for both dispersive and non-dispersive components is around 0.0363 m. It has also been confirmed that the residual errors are properly bounded by the integrity parameters. However, the satellite orbit and clock part have a larger residual of about 0.6508 m, and it was confirmed that this residual was not bounded by the integrity parameters. Users who rely solely on satellite orbit and clock correction, particularly maritime users, thus should exercise caution when utilizing QZSS CLAS.
