This work investigates the physical layer secrecy of a multi-antenna hybrid satellite-terrestrial relay networks (HSTRN) with jamming, in which a satellite aims to make communication with a destination user by means of a relay, along with spatially random eavesdroppers. In order to weaken the signals of eavesdroppers, the conventional relay can also generate intentional interference, besides forwarding the received signal. Shadowed-Rician fading is adopted in satellite link, while Rayleigh fading is adopted in terrestrial link, eavesdropper link and jamming link. The analytical and asymptotic formulas for the system secrecy outage probability (SOP) are characterized. Practical insights on the diversity order of the network are revealed according to the asymptotic behavior of SOP at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime. Then, analysis of the system throughput is examined to assess the secrecy performance. In the end, numerical simulation results are presented to validate the theoretical analysis and point out: (1) The secrecy performance of the considered network is affected by the channel fading scenario, the system configuration; (2) Decrease of the relay coverage airspace can provide better SOP performance; (3) Jamming from the relay can improve secrecy performance without additional network resources.

The Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) plays a significant role in the fields of aviation and navigation: it corrects signal errors of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and provides integrity information to facilitate precise positioning. These SBAS systems have been adopted as international standards by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). In recent SBAS system design, the Minimum Operational Performance Standards (MOPS) defined by the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA) must be followed. In October 2014, South Korea embarked on the development of a Korean GPS precision position correction system, referred to as Korea Augmentation Satellite System (KASS). The goal is to achieve APV-1 Standard of Service Level (SoL) service level and acquisition of CAT-1 test operating technology. The first satellite of KASS, KASS Prototype 1, was successfully launched from the Guiana Space Centre in South America on June 23, 2020. In December 2022 and June 2023, the first and second service signals of KASS were broadcasted, and full-scale KASS correction signal broadcasting is scheduled to start at the end of 2023. The aim of this study is to analyze the precision of both the GNSS system and KASS system by comparing them. KASS is also compared with Japan's Multi-functional Satellite Augmentation System (MSAS), which is available in Korea. The final objective of this work is to validate the usefulness of KASS correction navigation in the South Korean operational environment.

A signal system for improving the code acquisition complexity of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver is proposed and the receiving correlator scheme is presented accordingly. The proposed signal system is a hierarchical code type with a duplexing configuration which consists of the Zadoff-Chu (ZC) code having a good auto-correlation characteristic and the Pseudo Random Noise (PRN) code for distinguishing satellites. The receiving correlator has the scheme that consists of the primary correlator for the ZC code and the secondary correlator which uses the PRN code for the primary correlation results. The simulation results of code acquisition using the receiving correlator of the proposed signal system show that the proposed signal scheme improves the complexity of GNSS receiver and has the code acquisition performance comparable to the existing GNSS signal system using Coarse/Acquisition (C/A) code.

This paper is concerned with the design of the beam forming module that is a key unit of the active phased array antenna(APAA) system for mobile satellite communications. This module includes two blocks for main signal and tracking signal. Main signal block has the role of transmitting input signal from phased array antenna to tracking signal block. And, tracking signal block executes main roles, beam forming of tracking signal and electronic beam control. The several electrical performances of this module, phase characteristics and linear gain, etc., agreed with specifications needed fur APAA, and for more clear verification of the performances, the satellite communication test of the APAA including the modules was accomplished in the outdoors.

In this paper, we analyzed performance of signal detection for terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) system in various channel environments that applied gaussian, Rayleigh and COST 207 environments that estimate response of real channel state. In order to detect the signal, a signal detection scheme based on energy detection is employed. We generated T-DMB signals so that estimate properly simulation result. For evaluating the signal detection performance, detection probability is derived. We consider two kinds of detection segment, which are three segments and five segments. And we compare the system performances in accordance with the detection segment. From simulation results, it is confirmed that the performance of signal detection is raised as increase the number of segments. The result of this paper can be applied to implement signal detection of broadcasting system.
The problem of classifying a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) signal in a multipath channel is important to improve global navigation satellite system (GNSS) positioning accuracy in urban areas. Conventional deep learning-based NLOS signal classifiers use GNSS satellite measurements such as the carrier-to-noise-density ratio (CN_0), pseudorange, and elevation angle as inputs. However, there is a computational inefficiency with use of these measurements and the NLOS signal features expressed by the measurements are limited. In this paper, we propose a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based NLOS signal classifier that receives successive Auto-correlation function (ACF) outputs according to a time-series, which is the most primitive output of GNSS signal processing. We compared the proposed classifier to other DL-based NLOS signal classifiers such as a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) to show the superiority of the proposed classifier. The results show the proposed classifier does not require the navigation data extraction stage to classify the NLOS signals, and it has been verified that it has the best detection performance among all compared classifiers, with an accuracy of up to 97%.

This paper describes atmospheric phenomena and effects for satellite-to-ground laser communication channel. Satellite laser communication has advantages such as very high bandwidth, inherent security, robustness to electromagnetic interference, unlicensed frequency band. However, satellite laser communication is affected by various factors. Transmission quality is degraded by factors as system loss, geometric loss, misalignment loss, atmospheric loss. Atmospheric loss is major factor of performance degradation. In this paper, the atmospheric phenomena such as absorption, scattering and turbulence are discussed and analyzed for developing satellite laser channel model and laser transmission scheme robust to atmospheric phenomena.
Satellite orbit determination using angles only data from single ground station is carried out. The KOMPSAT-1 satellite mono-pulse angle tracking data from 9-meter S-band antenna at KARI site in Daejeon are used for the orbit determination. Various angle tracking arcs from one-day to five-day are processed and the orbit determination results are analyzed. Antenna pointing data are predicted based on the orbit determination results to check the possibility of re-acquisition and tracking of the satellite signal. Normal satellite mission operations including orbit determination, antenna prediction, satellite re-acquisition and automatic tracking from predicted antenna angle pointing data are concluded to be possible when three-day angle tracking data from single tracking station are used for the orbit determination.

EU's Galileo project is a market-based GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) that is under development. It is expected that Galileo will provide the positioning services based on new technologies in 2020s. Because Galileo E1 signal for OS (Open Service) shares the same center frequency with GPS L1 C/A signal, CBOC (Composite Binary Offset Carrier) modulation scheme is used in the E1 signal to guarantee interoperability between two systems. With E1 signal consisting of a data channel and a pilot channel at the same frequency band, there exist several options in designing signal acquisition for Assisted-Galileo receivers. Furthermore, compared to SNR worksheet of Assisted-GPS, some factors should be examined in Assisted-Galileo due to different correlation profile and code length of E1 signal. This paper presents SNR worksheets of Galileo E1 signals in E1-B and E1-C channel. Three implementation losses that are quite different from GPS are mainly analyzed in establishing SNR worksheets. In the worksheet, hybrid long integration of 1.5s is considered to acquire weak signal less than -150dBm. Simulation results show that the final SNR of E1-B signal with -150dBm is 19.4dB and that of E1-C signal is 25.2dB. Comparison of relative computation shows that E1-B channel is more profitable to acquire the strongest signal in weak signal environment. With information from the first satellite signal acquisition, fast acquisition of the weak signal around -155dBm can be performed with E1-C signal in the subsequent satellites.
