  • Objectives The aim of this study was to review the current Sasang Constitutions studies on children and adolescents and to provide basic data for developing in a better direction of research. Methods Research articles on children and adolescents of the Sasang Constitutions studies were extracted from six databases. Published year, published journals, types of studies were classified. Subjects of research and clinical methods for the Sasang type classification were summarized, especially in clinical studies. Results A total of 26 selected research articles were published from 1990 to 2013 and 14 articles (54%) have been published in Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine and Journal of Pediatrics of Korean Medicine. 96% of the total researches were based on clinical studies. Psychological and physical characteristics by Sasang Constitutional type accounted for most of the clinical research studies subjects. But these studies were not performed with diagnostic tools only for children and adolescents. Discussion In this study, the necessity of developing methods of Sasang constitutional type classification for children and adolescents was confirmed. If accompanied by additional research based on this study, it is expected to be used in diverse fields with active collaboration or education.

  • The correlation between angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) polymorphisms and cerebral infarction (CI) has been controversial. Such controversy may be due to different classifications of cerebrovascular diseases and ethnic differences. I studied the correlation between ACE genotypes and CI patients by case-control study in the Korean population. I also classified CI patients and control group into four types according to Sasang constitutional medicine. Furthermore I investigated the correlation among ACE genotypes, CI and Sasang constitutions. The frequencies of D allele were 0.32 in subjects with CI and 0.40 in the control group without CI (X2=0.128, p=0.720). In patients with CI, the frequency of Taeumins, one of four Sasang constitutional types, was significantly higher than that in controls (X2=15.425, p<0.00l). I did not find any correlation between ACE polymorphism and CI in Koreans. However, there were significant differences in allele frequencies between Koreans and Europeans, while similarities were shown to those of Japanese and Chinese populations.

He explained in full detail Sasang Constitutional symtoms more than symtoms in Dongyi Soose Bowon. I tried to find his early medical views on Sasang Constitutional disease. 2. Method of research It was researched as contents with his writing surh as Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun and DongmuYugo. 3. Results and conclusions (1) Dongmu was tried to explain the Sasang Constitutional physiological and pathological symtoms with ordinary symtoms. It is a his own implementation that he made an analysis of Sasang Constitutional symtoms. (2) We can take advantage of the contents clinically which has full of expression that there is a difference between the constitutional symtoms. (3) It is a guide post that can be expected the appearance of disease even if it were not in poor health

  • Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy and the safety of constitutional herbal tea for treating chronic fatigue with no diagnosed cause, which is called Mibyeong in Korea. Methods: Males and females with ages between 40 and 59 years who had complained of fatigue for 1 month consistently or for 6 months intermittently without a definite cause were recruited. At the same time, a Chalder fatigue scale (CFS) score of 19 was essential for participation in this study. Sixty five subjects completed the entire process, including blood tests and tests with medical devices. Five assessments of health status were accomplished over 8 weeks by using the CFS and the visual analogue scale (VAS). To ensure that the constitutional herbal tea was being safely used, we conducted and analyzed renal function and liver function tests. For the diagnosis of the Sasang constitution, the Sasang Constitutional Analysis Tool (SCAT) was used, and a specialist in Sasang constitutional medicine made the final diagnosis based on the SCAT result. Constitutional herbal tea was served four weeks after the first visit. The subjects took the constitutional herbal tea twice a day for one month. Results: The results are as follows: The CFS and the VAS scores were significantly improved for the subjects in the constitutional herbal tea. No abnormalities were found on the blood tests to evaluate safety after taking the constitutional herbal tea. The improvements in the CFS and the VAS scores due to the constitutional herbal tea had no significant differences according to the Sasang constitution. Conclusion: Constitutional herbal tea may be used to reduce fatigue and improve health and has no adverse effect on either the kidney or the liver.

Methods From December 2016 to July 2017, four cases of women having climacteric complaints were extracted. Results Their main symptoms were hot flush, insomnia, sweating, cold sensation, and excitation. Their Sasang constitutional types were 2 Soyangin and 2 Taeeumin. Main symptomology of Soyangin was Chest-heat congested symptomology and that of Taeeumin was Esophagus-cold symptomology or Esophagus-cold Lung-dry Symptomology. Conclusions Their symptomolgies of Soyangin and Taeeumin lied in the Interior disease rather than Exterior disease, in the Advanced disease rather than Mild disease. It could show that Sasang constitutional medicine and management is possible to be indicated in climacteric disorders.
