Literature Review on Sasang Constitutional Medicine for Tumors through Database Search (데이터베이스 검색을 통한 종양의 사상체질의학 관련 연구 문헌 고찰)

  • Objectives The purpose of this review was to investigate constitutional medical research on tumors and to propose information for further research. Methods The literature was investigated from Oriental medicine advanced searching integrated system, China national knowledge infrastructure, and PubMed. The searching terms were cancer, tumor, neoplasm, Sasang constitution, and so on. And studies were collected and analyzed into the three parts of distributions, treatments, and preventions. Results The distribution and type of tumors were different depending on the type of Sasang constitution. The symptoms of a tumor can occur variously in all types of diseases or patterns. Preventing tumors and cultivating health should be considered all aspects of physical, mental, and social health in the Sasang constitutional concept of securing requisite energy of minor organs. Conclusions The Sasang constitutional medicine for treating tumors should be focused on strengthening the constitutional healthy energy considering personal characteristics.

6 Case Reports on Parkinson's Disease Patients Treated by Sasang Constitutional Medicine: Focused on Stance and Gait Analysis (사상의학적(四象醫學的)으로 접근한 파킨슨 증후군 환자 치험 6례 : 균형 및 보행분석을 중심으로)

  • Objectives Gait disorders are incapacitating symptoms of Parkinson's disease(PD). Here, we report improvements of patients diagnosed with PD treated by Sasang Constitutional Medicine, focused on gait and balance analysis. Methods The patients diagnosed with PD were treated on the basis of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, and their stance and gait status were analyzed by zebris Medical GmbH. To evaluate other general symptoms related with PD, GAS scale, NRS scale, H&Y scale and UPDRS were used. Results Stride length, velocity, stance phase, lateral symmetry were improved in all 6 patients. Other symptoms related to Parkinson's disease were reduced, along with the improvements in GAS scale, NRS scale, H&Y scale and UPDRS score. Conclusion This case study showed Sasang Constitutional Medicine is effective in various symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Especially in regard to the stance and gait status, the improvements were assessed accurately with Gait analysis.

2 Case Reports on Oro-facial Dyskinesia Patients Diagnosed and Treated in Sasang Constitutional Medicine (사상의학적(四象醫學的)으로 접근한 노인성 입얼굴 이상운동증 환자 치험 2례)

  • Objectives This study was designed to report diagnosis and treatment by Sasang Constitutional Medicine to the patients with Oro-facial Dyskinesia. Methods These two patients were diagnosed as Soyangin and Taeeumin according to the result of Sasang constitutional diagnosis, and treated by Sasang constitutional medications and acupuncture. The progress was evaluated with the Global Assessment Scale (GAS). Result Oro-facial Dyskinesia was almost disappeared in each patients. the one patient was cured with Chongshimyeonja-tang and Yuldahanso-tang, and the other was cured with Hyeungbangjihwang-tang. Conclusion We can treat Oro-facial Dyskinesia whose cause is mostly idiopathic with the diagnosis and treatment of Sasang Constitutional Medicine.

A Study on the Sasang Constitutional Classification of Stroke Patients by QSCC II (QSCC II를 이용한 중풍(中風)환자의 사상체질(四象體質) 분류에 대한 고찰)

  • Objectives This study was to investigate the Sasang Constitutional classification in storke inpatients by using QSCC II and to evaluate the relevance of the results and Donguisusebowon contents. Methods QSCC II was conducted to 73 Stroke patients who were admitted from April 2014 to August 2014 in Dongseo oriental hospital. And the results were analyzed by contents of Donguisusebowon. Results The number of Soyangin and Taeumin was the most common and Soeumin was the lowest. There was no Taeyangin. The number of Soyangin and Taeumin was the most common in cerebral infarction patients, and the number of Soyangin was the most common in intracerebral hemorrhage patients. The patients who had both cerebral infarction and intracerebral hemorrhage were all Taeumin. Conclusions The incidence of stroke was higher in Soyangin and Taeumin. This results were relevant with the Sasang Constitutional Temperament of Donguisusebowon.

  • 1. Objectives: This study was performed to research the relationship between Sasang Constitutional medicine and Hyungsang medicine. 2. Methods: Four hundred and thirty applicants are involved in this study. They are devided into Sasang Constitution and Hyungsang Classification 3. Results and Conclusions: There are significances between Sasang Constitutional diagnosis and Hyungsang Classification. There are significantly more Bangkwang-body, Gi-kwa, Taeyang-hyung, Yangmyung-hyung in Taeyangin and Bangkwang-body, Jung-kwa, Soyang-hyung, Yangmyung-hyung in Soyangin. There are significantly more Dam-body, Gi-kwa, Taeyang-hyung, Yangmyung-hyung in Taeeumin and Bangkwang-body, Gi-kwa, Taeyang-hyung, Yangmyung-hyung in Soeumin.

  • Background and Objective : The status of development of instruments to assess the 'health status' reflecting the concept of Sasang Constitutional Medicine is still far from satisfaction, despite their importance in building basic data for health promotion, evaluation of effectiveness of treatment, health policy and so on. for these reasons the health scale of Sasang Constitutional Medicine shod be developed. Therefore as from of preliminary research, this study is to review the concept of health and symptoms in health status in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. Methods : It was researched as bibliologically with Dong-mu's chief medical writings such as ${\ulcorner}Dongyi$ Soose $Bowon{\lrcorner}$(東醫壽世保元)${\ulcorner}Dongyi$ Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun(東醫壽世保元四象草本卷)${\lrcorner}$ - Results and conclusion : 1. In Sasang Constitutional Medicine, it is suggested that Inherent vitality(命脈實數) has relations to health and Knowledge-Acting(知行) is a primary factor which affects health. And it is thought that Healthy condition(完實無病) is that human being has enough Healthy energy(保命之主) of Small viscera. 2. In Sasang Constitutional Medicine, it is thought that stool, urine, sweating and digestion become important indexes to measure the physical health state. 3. In Sasang Constitutional Medicine, it is thought that the mental health is in control of inclination of mind by golden mean(中庸) and in tranquillity of constant mind according to constitution. 4. In Sasang Constitutional Medicine, it is thought that the social health is state thar can do social acting harmoniously by keeping away from alcohol, sexual appetite, property and power.

The study about Sasang Constitution diagnosis and research trends in the case reports (증례논문에 나타난 사상체질진단의 특징 및 연구동향에 대한 연구)

  • 1. Objectives : We analyzed the case reports published by the journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, to study Sasang Constitution diagnosis and characteristic of clinical practice. 2. Methods : It has been examined 138 case reports of Sasang Constitution society published from 1994 to 2008. We analyzed. patient's number, publication year, distribution of Sasang Constitution, title's characteristics and bases of constitution diagnosis. 3. Results and conclusions : 1) In the analysis of patient's number, 1 case report was almost part of the case reports, and the case reports ware many published after 2001. 2) In the analysis distribution of Sasang Constitution, Soyangin was the most Sasang Constitution, and Tae-umin was the next one and Soeumin, Taeyangin followed them. 3) In the analysis of the journal's title, Sasang Constitution, disease and symptom of Sasang Constitution were more important than prescription recently. 4) In the analysis of the journal's purpose, unique disease and response of treatment were almost part of the case reports. 5) In the analysis of diagnosis bases, subjective bases were more important than objective bases and Sasang Constitutional drug response. therefore we should do researches in objective bases and drug response in the future.

  • 1. Objectives The purpose of this case is to report a Taeumin, who was examined as Hwa-Byeong, received a medical treatment with Cheongsimyeonja-tang and consult of Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 2. Methods We examined this patient as Hwa-Byeong by using Hwa-Byeong Diagnostic Interview Schedule(HBDIS) and we also diagnosed a patient's mental state by using MMPI to understand a human instinct of the patient. Additionally, we used QSCC II and PSCC to distinguish a patient's Sasang Constitution. 3. Results We received a positive result by using prescription as Cheongsimyeonja-tang and consult according to a patient's Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 4. Conclusions We suggested that the patient would receive steady treatments as consult of Sasang Constitutional Medicine and medicinal therapy afterwards.

  • Neiging Medicine(內經醫學) based on Yin-Yang and Five elements was the main stream of Korea Traditional Medicine until the end of 19th century. And the establishment of Sasang Constitutional medicine. In this paper, author proved that the Yin-Yang of Sasang Constitutional Medicine was different from that of Neiging Medicine and that explained the Yin-Yang of Sasang Constitutional Medicine as our own medicine. After considering the philosophical and medical background of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, and author researched the Yin-Yang of ontology, structure, function, symptoms in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. Also we compared this with that of Neiging medicine. The results were as follows 1. Neiging Medicine was based on the Yin-Yang and Five elements centering on the nature and Sasang joy, and pleasure centering on the human. 2. The ontology of Sasang Constitutional Medicine were the mind as a unitary substance, the mind and body as a dual substance, and affair, mind, body, and objects as a four substance which were the basic theory of philosophy. 3. Sasang Constitutional Medicine explained social phenomenon with a four substancial structure consisted of affairs, mind, body, and objects, a complex four substancial structure consisted of heaves, human, nature and order, and a three dimension structure including time. 4. On the other hand Neiging Medicine recognized seven emotions as five emotions, Sasang Constitutional Medicine recognized seven emotions as qi, nature, and emotions which consisted of sorrow, anger, joy, and pleasure. The qi had an effect on internal and external part of body and the nature and the emotion had an effect on the upward and downward of body. 5. It was taked great importance to control the up and down balance and the internal and external balance in Sasang Constitutional Medicine instead of reinforcing and reducting method of Neiging Medicine. 6. The Yin-Yang of Korean Traditional Medicine developed centering on the human from centering on the nature and Sasang Constitutional Medicine was a practical medicine compared with Neiging Medicine.

Dong-mu emphasised acquired element than inborn element. 2. Sasang Constitutional Medicine is thought that we ran overcome inborn limitation of each constitution through moral culture of aposteriori Knowledge-Acting. and that self-correction is methods which is applied to treatment of disease recovering Essential Qi of each constitution with moral culture of personality 3. Sasang Constitutional Medicine is recognizing Essential Qi by main standard that foretell prognosis of disease and emphasize recovery of Essential Qi through self-correction than way of 'Assisting-Good Qi' and 'Removig-Bad Qi' in treatment of disease. 4. Self-correction can be divided into non-herbal self-correction and herbal self-correction. Non-herbal self-correction is to control greed by aposteriori Knowledge-Acting and herbal self-correction is to recover Essential Qi by herb. 5. It is thought that the present constitutional disease is consisted by accumulating life habit nature of a disease of ordinary times, and Sasang Constitutional Medicine that present constitutional disease is treated through administration of life habit nature of a disease of ordinary times in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 6. Treatment mind to correct oneself into Golden Mean through controlling Knowledge-Acting in Sasang Constitutional Medicine may get into important treatment guide of gene medicine age.
