The objective of present study is to investigate the effect of granulated blast furnace slag (GBS) as partial substitution of natural sand on behaviour of cement mortar. For this, the methods of factorial design with water cement (w/c) ratio and incorporation percentages of GBS as replacement of natural fine aggregate i.e., GBS(%) as factors are followed. The levels of factor w/c ratio are fixed at 0.4, 0.45, and 0.5 and the levels of factor GBS(%) are kept fixed as 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%. The compressive strength (CS) of mortar after 3, 7, 14, 28, 56 and 90 days, and water absorption (WA) are chosen as responses of the study. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) of experimental results has been carried out and those are illustrated by ANOVA tables, main effect and interaction plots. The results of study depict that the selected factors have substantial influence on the strength and WA of mortar. However, the interaction of factors has no substantial impact on CS and WA of mixes.
Steel corrosion in reinforced concrete (RC) structures is a critical problem to structural safety and many researches are being actively conducted on developing methods to maintain the required performance of the RC structures during their intended service lives. In this study, concrete mixture proportioning technique through genetic algorithm (GA) for RC structures under carbonation, which is considered to be serious in underground site and big cities, is investigated. For this, mixture proportions and diffusion coefficients of $CO_2$ from the previous researches were analyzed and fitness function for $CO_2$ diffusion coefficient was derived through regression analysis. This function based on the 12 experimental results consisted of 5 variables including water-cement ratio (W/C), cement content, sand percentage, coarse aggregate content per unit volume of concrete in unit, and relative humidity. Through genetic algorithm (GA) technique, simulated mixture proportions were proposed for 3 cases of verification and they showed reasonable results with less than relative error of 10%. Finally, assuming intended service life, different exposure conditions, design parameters, intended $CO_2$ diffusion coefficients, and cement contents were determined and related mixture proportions were simulated. This proposed technique is capable of suggesting reasonable mix proportions and can be modified based on experimental data which consider various mixing components like mineral admixtures.

This study investigated the effect of surface water on concrete substrate on adhesive strength in tension of very high flowable SBR-modified cement mortar. The specimens were prepared with proportionally mixing SBR latex, ordinary portland cement, silica sand, superplasticizer and viscosity enhancing agent. Polymer cement ratio (P/C) were 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75% and the weight ratio of fine aggregate to cement were 1:1 and 1:3. The specimens obtained with different P/C and C:F were characterized by unit weight, flow test, crack resistance and adhesion test. After basic tests, two mixtures of P/C=20% and 30% in case of C:F=1:1, and one mixture of P/C=50% in case of C:F=1:3 were selected, respectively. These three selected specimens were studied about the effect of surface water evenly sprayed on concrete substrate by a amount of 0, 0.006, 0.012, 0.017, 0.024g per unit area ($cm^2$) of concrete substrate surface The results show that surface water on concrete substrate increases the adhesive strength in tension of high flowable SBR-modified cement mortar and improve the flowability compared to the non-sprayed case.

This study is conducted to utilize waste concrete powder (WCP) made as a by-product manufacturing high quality recycled aggregate. The blaine fineness of the used waste concrete powder was $928cm^2/g$. As the main characteristic of waste concrete powder, it showed an angular type similar to cement, but hydrated products were attached on the surface of particles. In addition, the size of the particles of waste concrete powder was larger than OPC and in terms of chemical components it had higher $SiO_2$ contents. For using WCP in soil cement-based pavement, the qualities, physical and chemical properties, of WCP should be researched. In the first step, the specified compressive strength of mortar for two types of clay sand soil and clay soil respectively was experimented to be 15 MPa and then optimum mixing ratio of chemical solidification agent were decided in the range of 1.5 - 3.0% in the replacement with cement weight content. In the second step, based on the prior experimental results, recycling possibility of WCP in soil cement-based pavement was studied. In the result of experiment the mixing ratio of WCP were 5, 10, 15 and 20% in the replacement with soil weight and the compressive strength of mortar was somewhat decreased according to the increase of the mixing ratio of WCP.
This paper was performed to evaluate the properties of no-coarse lightweight concrete using perlite and expanded polystyrene bead on fine aggregate. The results were shown that w/c and unit weight was affected by absorption ratio and unit weight of using aggregate itself. The compressive strength of no-coarse lightweight concrete was showed $187kgf/cm^2$ by using natural sand, $170kgf/cm^2$ by using perlite. Tensile and bending strength were showed the same tendency of compressive strength, but when expanded polystyrene bead concrete dose not have strength nearly. The pulse velocity and static modulus of elasticity of no-coarse lightweight concrete were smaller than that of normal cement concrete. And stress-strain curves were shown that was increased with increase of stress, and when the stress-strain curve using expanded polystyrene bead was repeated at short intervals increase and decrease irregularly.

In this paper, the strength properties of porous concrete containing natural fine aggregates and bottom ash aggregates were investigated, The material properties of natural fine aggregates and bottom ash were identified then used as aggregates for porous concrete. The water-binder ratio was constant at 0.25, and the com paction level of 0.5, 1.5, and 2.5 MPa was applied to produce a porous concrete specimen. Test of unit weight, ultrasonic velocity, compressive strength, and flexural tensile strength were perform ed and analyzed. The unit weight, ultrasonic velocity, com pressive strength, and flexural tensile strength increased as the compaction level increased and also the replacement rate of bottom ash with sand(fine aggregate) increased. In addition, through regression analysis, the correlation between the unit weight, compressive strength, and flexural tensile strength of bottom ash porous concrete was presented. Unit weight and strength properties are proportional to each other and showed an increasing correlation. In addition, the correlation coefficient (R2) value of regression analysis was calculated based on the experimental results of this study and those of other research papers.
The qualify of lightweight aggregate made from waste PET bottle(WPLA) and the workability, the unit weight and strength property of concrete with WPLA were investigated for the purpose of recycling the waste PET bottles as lightweight concrete fine aggregate. This study indicated a good result that WPLA should be replaced with less than $50\%$ of natural fine aggregate. When WPLA was replaced with $50\%$ of natural fine aggregate, the specific gravity and water absorption of mixed fine aggregate were greatly reduced about 23 and $75\%$ respectively in comparison with those of river sand. The quality of WPLA affected on the properties of lightweight aggregate concrete. The workability of fresh concrete with WPLA(WPLAC) was improved with increasing the replacement ratio of WPLA and water cement ratio. Slump increasing ratio of the former showed about $45 {\~} 120\%$ because that a specific gravity of fine aggregate was decreased from 2.6 to 1.7. The unit weight of concrete with $75\%$ WPLA was decreased about $17\%$ in comparison with that of control concrete. Furthermore, the compressive strength of concrete with 25 and $50 \%$ WPLA at the age of 28 days increased higher than 30 MPa regardless with water cement ratio (W/C=45, 49 and $53\%$) of this study. Specific strength of concrete with $25\%$ WPLA, $15.11{\times}10^3 MPa{\cdot}m^3/kg$, was higher than that of contro concrete in water cement ratio of $49\%$. The compressive strength-splitting tensile strength ratio and compressive strength-modulus of elasticity ratio of WPLAC were similar to that of nomal lightweight aggregate concrete. This results showed a good estimation that WPLA will be able to recycled as a fine aggregate for lightweight concrete.
Although a number of constitutive models have been proposed to define the behavior of geotechnical materials including elastic, plastic, and dynamic response, flew numerical models have been developed for the cyclic shear behavior of rock joints or interfaces. Such realistic constitutive models play an important role in analyzing and predicting the response of joints under dynamic loads. The purpose of this research is to verify the constitutive model modified for rough granite joints based on Disturbed State Concept(DSC) model, which has been successfully verified with respect to other materials such as dry sand-steel interface and wet sand-concrete interface. Furthermore, DSC model is compared and verified with respect to cyclic shear tests and numerical analysis results based on Plesha model. Based on the results of this research, it can be stated that DSC model is capable of characterizing the cyclic shear behavior of rough granite joints under dynamic loads.
Ready-mixed soil material, known as a kind of controlled low-strength material, is a new way of soil cement combination. It can be used as backfill materials. In this paper, artificial neural network and nonlinear regression approach were applied to predict the compressive strength of ready-mixed soil material containing Portland cement, slag, sand, and soil in mixture. The data used for analyzing were obtained from our testing program. In the experiment, we carried out a mix design with three proportions of sand to soil (e.g., 6:4, 5:5, and 4:6). In addition, blast furnace slag partially replaced cement to improve workability, whereas the water-to-binder ratio was fixed. Testing was conducted on samples to estimate its engineering properties as per ASTM such as flowability, strength, and pulse velocity. Based on testing data, the empirical pulse velocity-strength correlation was established by regression method. Next, three topologies of neural network were developed to predict the strength, namely ANN-I, ANN-II, and ANN-III. The first two models are back-propagation feed-forward networks, and the other one is radial basis neural network. The results show that the compressive strength of ready-mixed soil material can be well-predicted from neural networks. Among all currently proposed neural network models, the ANN-I gives the best prediction because it is closest to the actual strength. Moreover, considering combination of pulse velocity and other factors, viz. curing time, and material contents in mixture, the proposed neural networks offer better evaluation than interpolated from pulse velocity only.
