  • Background : The purpose of this study was to understand healthcare workers' perception of patient safety culture and medical error reporting to provide basic resources for the settlement of patient safety culture in medical institutions in Korea. Methods : For this purpose, convenience sampling by self-selection was applied to healthcare workers at a university hospital in Gyeonggi-do and a total of 482 people responded. The survey used the translated version of AHRQ in Korean and distributed through the Intranet system of the hospital. Result : The ratio of positive response was low overall. Among the responses, the response for 'Nonpunitive Response to Error' was the lowest at 17.7%, followed by the responses for 'Staffing' at 21.3%, 'Handoffs & Transitions' at 32.9%, and 'Communication Openness' at 44.3%. In result of surveying whether the responders have reported patient safety incidents during the past 12 months, 68.3% responded 'not once.' Conclusion : The perception of healthcare workers' patient safety culture and medical error reporting, when compared to AHRQ, was lower overall. It is important for healthcare workers to pay greater attention to patient safety to create a safe hospital culture where they do not punish or criticize related individuals or departments.

  • The purposes of this study are (a)to investigate the effect of follow-up on the increase of response rate;(b)to analyze the effect of follow-up on the statistics by predetermined response rates ; therefore, (c)to describe the importance of high response rate and to suggest methods in order to increase response rate in mail survey. Telephone directory of Seoul was utilized as a sampling frame, and modified Total Design Method(TDM) was applied to collect the data. The results are summarized as follows. 1. Final response rate was 76.5% by 2 follow-ups. 2. The first follow-up with telephone call had a significant effect on increase of response rate. As a result, follow-up by postcard in TDM could be omitted in this method. 3. The second follow-up by registered mail did not have a significant effect. Therefore, use of this procedure is depending upon such research situtations as importance of high response rate and cost available. 4. Follow-ups helped to make collected sample highly representative. 5. Most questionnaires were arrived on the first half of data collection period in each follow-up. 6. Most of questionnaires were collected for 10 weeks. Accumulated responses could be fitted by exponential and logistic curve, simultaneously. The fitted curve suggested that eventually limited number of questionnaires by arrived. So, if researchers want higher response rate, they have to conduct more follow-ups. 7. Statistics in the predetermined response rate were not changed significantly. But replications are needed to generalize this result.

  • Objectives : To investigate the information searching behavior of health care consumers according to sociodemographic characteristics. Methods : A questionnaire survey was conducted of 1,507 persons who were selected through a multi-stage stratified area cluster sampling of the Republic of Korea, excluding the province of Jeiu-do. Personal were conducted through a door-to-door survey between 27 July and 10 August 1999. Results : 80.5% of respondents used more than one source of information and those $40\sim59$ years of age, female, a housewife or student and those who claimed a religion demonstrated more active information searching behavior. A personal informer was used significantly more in those $20\sim39$ years old, female, and those who claimed a religion. Clerical workers, those with post-secondary education and a monthly income greater than 2,000,000 won ($1500) were more actively used a public informer. Low socioeconomic status and older persons used an experimental informer when they chose a health care institution. Conclusion : Regardless of the sociodemographic characteristics, personal and experimental informers were the most useful source of information. Because appropriate information was not easy to obtain, the health care consumer was dependent upon word-of-mouth communication(personal informer) when using health care services.

  • Personalized product recommendation service is receiving attention as a new marketing strategy while supporting consumer information search and purchasing decisions. This study attempted to verify the effect of self-reference on service use behavior through the dual path of cognitive attitude and emotional attachment. Using convenience sampling, an online survey was conducted with 324 women who were in their 20s and 30s. After collecting and compiling the survey data, the reliability and validity of variables constituting the conceptual research model were verified through confirmatory factor analysis using AMOS 22.0. Next, the significance of sequentially mediated pathways was verified using Process 3.5 Model 80. The results showed that self-referencing not only significantly affects service use intention by simply mediating cognitive attitudes but also sequentially mediates cognitive attitudes and additional information search. Furthermore, self-referencing was significant as an indirect path to service use intention by mediating additional information search. However, in the path mediated by emotional attachment, self-referencing was considered as a simple mediated path leading to service usage intention. These results indicate a dual path in the psychological mechanism, through cognitive and emotional evaluation, that prompts consumer behavioral responses to the personalized product information provided in the shopping process.

  • We constrain cosmological parameters by combining three different power spectra measured from galaxy clustering, galaxy-galaxy lensing, and cosmic shear using the Deep Lens Survey (DLS). Two lens bins (centered at z~0.27 and 0.54) and two source bins (centered at z~0.64, and 1.1) containing more than one million galaxies are selected to measure the power spectra. We re-calibrate the initial photo-z estimation of the lens bins by matching with SHELS and PRIMUS and confirm its fidelity by measuring a cross-correlation between the bins. We also check the reliability of the lensing signals through the null tests, lens-source flipping and cross shear measurement. Residual systematic errors from photometric redshift and shear calibration uncertainties are marginalized over in the nested sampling during our parameter constraint process. For the flat LCDM model, we determine S_8=sigma_8(Omega_m/0.3)^0.5=0.832+-0.028, which is in great agreement with the Planck data. We also verify that the two independent constraints from the cosmic shear and the galaxy clustering+galaxy-galaxy lensing measurements are consistent with each other. To address baryonic feedback effects on small scales, we marginalize over a baryonic feedback parameter, which we are able to constrain with the DLS data alone and more tightly when combined with Planck data. The constrained value hints at the possibility that the AGN feedback in the current OWLS simulations might not be strong enough.

  • This study explores the role of the Accounting Information System (AIS) in mediating the relationship between internal control and the performance of employees. This study examines whether internal control would influence the performance of employees and whether the AIS would impact the performance of employees in Jordan's industrial small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Internal control is expected to impact employee performance. The survey questionnaire was used to gather data. A random sampling approach was used to survey the respondents. A total of 270 questionnaires were distributed; only 203, with a 75% response rate, were available. The data was analyzed using AMOS and SPSS. The result from the analyses provides support for the hypothesis that AIS mediates the relationship between internal control and the performance of the employee. Specifically, this study found evidence that internal control yielded a strong positive relationship with employee performance and a positive relationship with AIS. The study also found that AIS had a positive relationship with the performance of the employee. In brief, internal control has major effects on employee performance. Also, the AIS mediates the relationship between internal control and the performance of the employee. The result of this research found that in the relationship between internal control and employee performance, AIS plays an important role.

  • The concept of Shariah-based internal audit has received increasing attention from researchers in recent times especially since Islamic financial institutions have been developing in several Asian countries like Bangladesh. To avoid financial irregularities and to maintain Shariah-based financial transactions, an effective Shariah-based internal audit system is extremely important for Islamic financial institutions such as Islamic banks. Hence, the objective of this study is to determine the factors that influence the effectiveness of the Shariah-based audit system. Study data has been gathered from Shariah auditors, members of the Shariah board and audit committee of six private Islamic banks in Dhaka, Bangladesh. A total of 210 survey questionnaires were sent and finally 136 responses were retained, indicating a final sample size of n=136, with a survey feedback rate of 65%. The study adopted a quantitative measure and collected only primary data, followed by convenience sampling. SPSS has been used to run necessary statistical interpretation. Results reveal that auditor's work autonomy, level of competency, and work performance significantly impact the Shariah-based internal audit effectiveness. The study findings can be adopted as guidelines to improve the overall effectiveness of the Shariah-based internal audit system in Islamic financial institutions.

  • This study aims to identify the role of organizational behavior and intellectual capital on risk management implementation and Village Credit Institutions (called LPD) performance. The LPD population is 1,256 units spread across nine districts/cities in Bali. This research was conducted at the LPD as the only microfinance institution based on local wisdom in traditional villages in Bali Province, Indonesia. Based on sampling using the Slovin method, there were 139 LPD as sampled in this study. The respondent in this study was the Head of the LPD. LPD performance measurement is using the balanced scorecard method that combines financial and non-financial aspects. This study also investigates risk management's role as a mediator in the relationship between organizational behavior and intellectual capital on the LPD performance. Methods of data collection using a survey. The questionnaire was given to 139 LPD chairman who was respondents in this survey. The data analysis technique used SEM-PLS. This study succeeded in confirming Resource-Based View Theory that organizational behavior and intellectual capital affect risk management and organization performance. These results also prove risk management's role as a mediation for the relationship between organizational behavior and intellectual capital on organizational performance.
