  • Various charged homogeneous membranes were fabricated by blending of ionic polymer with a non-ionic polymer with different ratios. In this study. sodium alginate, chitosan and poly(vinyl alcohol) were employed as anionic. cationic and non-ionic polymers, respectively. The permcation and separation behaviors of aquCOll::; salt solutions have been investigated through the charged membranes. As the content of ionic polymer increases in the membrane, the hydrophilicity of the membrane increases and pure water flux as well as solution flux increases correspondingly, indicating that the permeation performance through the membrane is cletemunecl mainly by its hydrophilicity-, Electrostatic interaction between the charged membrane and ionic solute molecules, that is. Donnan exclusion was observed to be attributed to salt rejection to a great deal of extent, and molecular sieve mechanism was effective [or the separation of the salt solution under a similar electrostatic circumstance of solutes.

  • Chelating solutions can be damaged by strong acids during oil production. To design effective corrosion inhibitors and other alternatives for corrosion control, it is important to understand not only the behavior of the system under operating condition but also the kinetics of electrochemical reactions during the corrosion process. In this study, the electrochemical behaviors of P-110 steel in aqueous fluids based on ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) compounds under various temperatures and hydrodynamic regime conditions were assessed. Electrochemical measurements were conducted using rotating disc electrodes manufactured. Electrolytes were prepared using aqueous compounds of EDTA like diammonium salt, disodium salt, and tetrasodium salt. Potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance, and mass loss tests were performed in order to assess the corrosion kinetic in electrolytes. Hydrodynamic effects were observed only in the cathodic polarization curve. This proves that hydrodynamic regime plays an important role in the corrosion of steel mainly in disodium and diammonium EDTA solutions. Two cathodic reactions controlled the corrosion process. However, oxygen level and pH of the electrolyte played the most important role in metal corrosion. Corrosion rates in those fluids were decreased drastically when oxygen concentration was reduced.

  • Fine ceramic particles of zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA), titania toughened alumina (TTA), and zirconia-titania toughened alumina (ZTTA) have been synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) at various temperatures from starting salt solutio ns of various compositions aiming for the development of catalytic material. These particles were characterized for properties such as shape, size and size distribution, diffraction pattern, and chemical and phase composition of elements by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), particle size analyzer (PSA), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Chemical compositions and sizes of ceramic composites have been controled by the stoichiometry of salt solutions and the flow rate of spraying solutions. The optimum experimental conditions for the various composite particle syntheses have been proposed.

  • Polyaniline Emeraldine Base (PANI EB) polymerized by chemical oxidative polymerization was doped with Camphorsulfonic Acid(CSA). Polyaniline-Camphorsulfonic Acid Emeraldine Salt(PANI-CSA ES) solutions were solved in organic solvents and sonificated at the room temperature for different solvents in PANI-CSA ES solution and sonification time. PANI-CSA ES solutions was coated on PET films using bar coater. 1-Step oxidatively-polymerized Polyaniline-Camphorsulfonic Acid Emeraldine Salt(PANI-CSA ES) was solved in m-cresol:chloroform 1:1 co-solvents and their solution was bar-coated on PET film. The surface resistivities of these coated films were measured, The surface resistivity of PANI-CSA ES solution in m-cresol:chloroform 1:1 co-solvent system was 5${\times}$10$^2$$\Omega$/$\square$.

  • This paper aims to point out the problems and solutions of soil fertility enhancement in Korean organic farming which does not harmonize with internationally recognized standard of organic agriculture such as Basic Standard of IFOAM, EU regulations, and guidelines of FAO/WHO codex alimentarius. The necessity of rotation, legume, green manure to enhance the soil fertility or organic farming system was discussed, and the reasons why salt accumulation including nitrate and phosphate in the rooted soil profiles was frequently occurred in Korean organic farmer's field also discussed. Soil testing for correct handling of organic fertilization was introduced to void the salt accumulation just applying the huge amount of organic fertilizer year to year to reach a maximum crop yield. In the conclusion it was suggested for Korean organic agriculture to make an effort to coincide it's regulation with internationally recognized standards for organic farming.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of salt formation on the percutaneous absorption of meloxicam through hairless mouse skin from a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) matrix. In addition, the influences of enhancers on the permeation of meloxicam or meloxicam-ethanolamine (MX-EA) salts across the hairless mouse skin were evaluated using a flow-through diffusion cell system. The salt formation of meloxicam resulted in lower permeation rate than the parent drug. $Span^{(R)}$ 80 provided the highest enhancing effect for meloxicam and meloxicam monoethanolamine salt. The maximum amount of the drug that can be loaded without retarding permeation rate was different depending on the compound. No relationship was found between the fluxes of meloxicam or MX-EA salts from saturated solutions and those from PSA matrices containing the same enhancer.

  • The $trans{\rightarrow}cis$ photoisomerization and fluorescence of trans-1,2-bispyrazylethylene were investigated in various conditions. The quantum yields of the $trans{\rightarrow}cis$ photoisomerization and the fluorescence intensity of trans-1,2-bispyrazylethylene decrease on going from neutral to acidic or basic solutions. The quantum yields of photoisomerization, however, are little affected by changing the concentration of salt while the fluorescence intensity increases as the concentration of salt increases. pH and salt effects on the energy levels of $^1(n,\;{\pi}^*)\;and\;^1({\pi},\; {\pi}^*)$ states lead to opposing changes in photoisomerization and fluorescence quantum yields. The heavy atom effect on the fluorescence of 1,2-bispyrazylethylene was also investigated.

  • There has been increasing demand to the eco-friendly materials such as phytoncide which is extracted to plants in the textile industry, recently. It is interesting that alginic acid sodium salt(Alg-Na) is used to eco-friendly binder for the functional capsule finishing. In this study, we made PEO/Alg-Na blend solutions of various ratio and observed the changing binding property of the blend solutions according to PEO contents through FT-IR, DSC, contact angle, peel strength, etc. The viscosity of Alg-Na/PEO blend solutions increased with increase of contents and the viscosity quickly increased with increase of PEO content in Alg-Na 5% content, specially. It is shown that the hydrogen bond peak by blend of Alg-Na and PEO found through FT-IR analysis but the peak decreased in PEO above 60% content. And the peel strength was predominant in PEO 50% ratio.

  • By the gravimetric method at atmospheric pressure, the solubility of two α-amino acids was resolved over temperatures from (293.15 to 323.15) K. The α-amino acids studied were L-arginine and L-histidine. Results showed a salting-out effect on the solubility of the tested amino compounds. It is obvious that there was an increase in the solubility, in aqueous chloride solutions, with the increasing temperature. Results were translated regarding the salt hydration shells and the ability of the solute to form hydrogen-bond with water. The solubility data was precisely associated with a semi-empirical equation. The standard molar Gibbs free energies of transfer of selected α-amino compounds (ΔtrGo) from pure water to aqueous solutions of the chloride salts have been calculated from the solubility data. The decrease in solubility is correlated to the positive (ΔtrGo) value which is most part of the enthalpic origin.
