Spring Phytoplankton Bloom in the Fronts of the East China Sea

  • Frontal areas between warm and saline waters of the Kuroshio currents and colder and diluted waters of the East China Sea (ECS) influenced by the Changjiang River were identified from the satellite thermal imagery and hydrological data obtained from the Coastal Ocean Process Experiment (COPEX) cruise during the period between March $1^{st}$ and $10^{th}$, 1997. High chlorophyll concentrations appeared in the fronts of the East China Seas with the highest chlorophyll-a concentration in the southwestern area of Jeju Island (${\sim}2.9\;mg/m^3$) and the eastern area of the Changjiang River Mouth (${\sim}2.8\;mg/m^3$). Vertical structures of temperature, salinity and density were similar, showing the fronts between ECS and Kuroshio waters. The water column was well mixed in the shelf waters and was stratified around the fronts. It is inferred that the optimal condition for light utilization and nutrients induced both from the coastal and deep waters enhances the high phytoplankton productivity in the fronts of the ECS. In addition, the high chlorophyll-a in the fronts seems to have been associated with the water column stability as well.

폴리카르복시산 가교제를 이용한 고흡수성 PVA 필름의 제조 (Preparation of Superabsorbent PVA Films with Polycarboxylic Acid Crosslinkers)

  • PVA films were crosslinked with dimethylol dihydroxy ethylene urea (DMDHEU) and three polycarboxylic acids of butanetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA), citric acid and malic acid Different factors influencing the crosslinking treatment with BTCA were investigated including BTCA and sodium hypophosphite (SHP) concentration, curing temperature and time. The cured films was extracted with boiling water and gel fraction was calculated based on weight change of the PVA films. The gel fraction of PVA films increased with increasing curing temperature and time. And the resistance to water and thermal stability of the crosslinked PVA films improved with the BTCA crosslinking treatment. While crosslinking with citric acid gave the highest gel fraction among the crosslinkers, crosslinking with malic acid showed the highest absorbancy in 0.9% saline solution, which was attributed to lower crosslink density and high number-average molecular weight between crosslinks. The superabsorbent PVA films could be prepared by adjusting the crosslinking condition of PVA with polycarboxilic acids.

용존 이온 농축을 위한 진공 증발 기술과 하이드레이트 기반 기술의 소모 에너지 비교 (Comparison on the Energy Consumption of the Vacuum Evaporation and Hydrated-Based Technologies for Concentrating Dissolved Ions)

  • 이 논문에서는 염수 중 이온 농축을 위해 진공 증발법과 하이드레이트 활용법 적용시 소모 에너지를 계산 결과를 보고하고자 한다. 상온 상압의 염수(NaCl 농도 0.35 wt%) 1 mol/s 를 10배 농축할 경우를 가정하여 $69^{\circ}C$, 30 kPa 조건에서 진공 증발시와 객체가스로 $CH_4$, $CO_2$, $SF_6$ 를 사용한 하이드레이트 기반 기술의 에너지 소모량을 계산하였다. 진공 증발시 소모 에너지는 약 47 kJ/mol 이었으며, $CH_4$, $CO_2$, $SF_6$ 하이드레이트 공정을 적용할 경우에는 각각 43, 32, 28 kJ/mol의 에너지가 필요하였다. 에너지 소모량 관점에서 이온 농축시 하이드레이트 활용방법은 경쟁력있는 기술이 될 수 있으나, 객체가스에 따라 수화수(hydration number), 수화에너지, 압축에너지 등이 달라지므로 적절한 객체가스의 선정이 매우 중요한 요소라고 판단된다. 하이드레이트를 이용한 용존 이온 농축 기술의 상용화를 위한 핵심 요소로는 객체가스의 선정, 하이드레이트와 농축수의 효과적 분리, 하이드레이트 형성 속도 향상을 들 수 있다.

  • 1995년 10월 탐양호를 이용하여 동해 중부 및 북부해역의 28개 정점에서 CTD 관측과 동시에 영양염의 분포 특성을 최대 500m 깊이까지 조사하였다. 수온${\cdot}$염분 및 용존산소로서 조사해역의 수괴는 동해표층저염수 (Low Saline Surface Water, LSSW), 대마난류표층수 (Tsushima Surface Water, TSW), 대마난류중층수 (Tsushima Middle Water, TMW), 북한한류수(North Korean Cold Water, NKCW) 및 동해고유수 (East Sea Proper Water, ESPW) 등의 5개 주수괴와 각 수괴들의 혼합수로 이루어졌다. 특히 조사해역의 남쪽 지점의 수심 $0\~30m$에서 출현한 동해표층저염수는 이 곳에 특별한 달수 공급원이 없는 것으로 보아 중국의 양자강 유출수가 유입된 것으로 판단된다. 산소 최대층은 조사해역 북쪽에서는 표층 근처에 나타나고 남쪽으로 갈수록 그 수심이 깊어졌으며 대마난류중층수의 특징인 용존산소 최소층은 남쪽 해역에서만 출현하였다. 영양염은 표층에서 낮고 수온약층에서 증가하여 동해고유수에서 최대이었다. 동해고유수에서 규산염과 인산염의 비 (Si/P ratio)가 13.63으로 이제까지 동해에서 보고된 수치에 비하여 매우 낮았는데 괴는 P가 수심에 따라 계속 증가하는 양상이었기 때문이다. 질산염과 인산염의 비 (N/P ratio)는 약 6.92로 대마난류표층수를 제외하고 질산염이 식물플랑크톤 성장의 제한 요소로 작용하고 있었다. N과 P는 양의 직선관계를 보였으나 Si와 P의 관계는 지수적 증가를 보여 규산염의 재생산 속도가 느림을 보여주고 있다.

상백피(桑白皮)가 항알러지 및 항염증반응에 미치는 영향 (In vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic responses caused by water extract of Mori Cortex)

  • Objective: This experimental study was performed to examine the in vitro and in viva anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects of Mori Cortex. Methods: Water extract of Mori Cortex was studied to its ability to stimulate or inhibit macrophage 264.7 cells to produce inflammatory and allergic mediators. Cytokines such as $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6, IL-10 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ were measured by immunochemical assay. In vitro, the macrophages 264.7 were classified into four groups. One group was a normal group. The other group was a (-) control group stimulated with LPS. And the third group was a (+) control group pretreated for 1 hour with hydrocortisone. And the fourth group was a sample group pretreated for 1 hour with Mori Cortex. After pretreatment, macrophage were incubated with lipopolysaccharide(LPS) $100\;ng/m{\ell}$ for 12 hour and media collected and $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6, IL-10 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ concentrations in supernatants were measured each by Enzyme linked immuno-soubent assay. Mori Cortex were used $50\;{\mu}g/m{\ell},\;100\;{\mu}g/m{\ell},\;250\;{\mu}g/m{\ell},\;500\;{\mu}g/m{\ell},\;and\;1,000\;{\mu}g/m{\ell}$. Hydrocortisones were used $10^{-8}M,\;10^{-7}M,\;10^{-6}M,\;10^{-5}M\;and\;10^{-4}M$. In vivo, the SD rats were classified into three groups. One group was a normal group injected with normal saline into the abdominal cavity. The other was a control group prescribed to compound 48/80 after normal saline injection. And the third was a sample group prescribed to compound 40/80 after Mori Cortex injection. Then, the release of histamine, IL-6 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ were measured. Results : In vitro, Man Cortex significantly increased the release of $IL-1{\beta}\;and\;TNF-{\alpha}$ by LPS-stimulated macrophage 264.7 cells. And it significantly decreased the release of IL-10. In IL-6, Mori Cortex of low concentration significantly decreased the release of IL-6, but that of high concentration acted in reverse. In vivo, Man Cortex didn't show significant inhibitory effects on the release of histamine and IL-6 in comparison with that of the control group. But it significantly increased the release of $TNF-{\alpha}$ in comparison with that of the control group.

보리 유묘의 염농도에 따른 세포의 형태반응 (Cellular Structural Change of Barley Seedling on Different Salt Concentration under Hydroponic Culture)

  • 염분농도가 상이한 1/2 Hoagland 수용액에 보리 유식물을 생육시켰을 때 수경액의 염분농도가 높아짐에 따른 몇가지 변화의 양상을 관찰한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 지상부나 지하부의 생육량은 수경액에 25mM정도 NaCl이 함유된 때에 오히려 많았으나, NaCl 농도가 50mM 이상일 때에는 현저하게 감소하기 시작했다. 2. 식물체내의 수분함량은 수경액의 NaCl농도가 높아질수록 낮아져 염생식물과는 달리 식물체내에 있는 NaCl이 삼투압 조절물질로 작용하지는 않았다. 3. 수경액의 NaCl의 농도가 높아짐에 따라 초엽에 있어서 단위 면적당($cm^2$) 기공의 수는 많았으나(무처리;3,683, 100mM NaCl처리;5,153) 길이가 짧아져 약간씩 감소하였다. 4. 뿌리의 생장점은 수경액의 NaCl 농도가 75mM 이상인 경우에 핵분열이 심하게 저해되었다. 5. 수경액의 ,NaCl 농도가 75mM 이하의 경우 엽록체는 NaCl에 의해 stress를 받지 않아 형태적인 면에서 변화가 없었으나 근단 생장점의 Mitochondria가 파괴되는 현상을 볼 수 있었고 NaCl 75mM구에서 불규칙한 고형물질이 세포벽쪽에 밀집한 것을 관찰할 수 있었다.

한약재 추출물 함유 음료가 알코올 투여 흰쥐의 알코올 대사 관련 효소에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Medicinal Herbal Drink on Alcohol Metabolic Enzyme in Drunken Rats)

  • Alcohol is the most widely psychoactive drug and has known in almost all civilization since ancient time. Recently increase consuming alcoholic beverages, alcohol is on of the major public health problems in the world. Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) play important roles in the metabolism of alcohols and aldehydes. The drink consists of medicinal herbs, Puerariae Radix, Phyllostachyos Folium, Citri Pericarpium, Polygonati Rhizoma, Rehmanniae Rhizoma (Vinegar), which have been widely used in oriental medicine. This study was designed to investigate effects of medicinal herbal drink (MHD) on alcohol metabolism in drunken SD rats subjects. In experiment, rats were treated to ethanol (EtOH, 3 g/kg, PO) at 60 min. after saline (CON) or MHD (1 ml/kg, PO) administration. The blood alcohol concentration (BAC), blood acetaldehyde concentration (BALC) activities of ADH, ALDH, AST and ALT were significantly decreased in MHD group than in control group as a time-dependent manner. And drinking water volume in MHD group with duplicate treatment, were significantly decreased than in CON group. These results suggested that MHD intake could give an influence upon the reduction in BAC and BALC may alleviate acute ethanol-induced hepatotoxicity by altering alcohol metabolic enzyme activities.

구자를 장기간(長期間) 투여(投與) 했을 때 생쥐의 근피로(筋疲勞)와 근력(筋力)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Long Term Effect of Allii tuberosi semen on Muscle Fatigue and Muscular Strength)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the muscle anti-fatigue effects of Allii tuberosi semen after long term administration. Materials and Methods: 4-6 weeks old ICR mice were used in this study and we administered the water soluble extracts of Allii tuberosi semen in the concentration of 1, 10 and 100mg/0.3ml to each 5 mice (ATS group) and same volume of normal saline was administered to 5 mice (control group) once a day for 90 or 120 days. After the administration we performed the swimming exercise test and the grip strength test. And we measured the concentration of glucose and the activity of lactate dehydrogenase in plasma regarded as biochemical indicator related with the muscular fatigue. Results: In swimming exercise test, all ATS groups showed increased time compared with relative control group after 90 days administration. But after 120 days adminstration 10 and 100mg/0.3ml ATS groups showed increased results. In grip strength test, all ATS group increased grip strength after 90 days administration and 10mg/0.3ml ATS group showed increased result after 120 days administration. All the results of plasma glucose didn't showed statistically significant difference after 90 and 120 days administration. In the plasma concentration of activity level of lactate dehydrogenase, 1mg/0.3ml and 10mg/0.3ml ATS groups showed decreased concentration compared with relative control group after 90 days administration. But after 120 days adminstration 1mg/0.3ml ATS groups showed decreased results. Conclusion: From this study we could find the anti-fatigue effect of Allii tuberosi semen in the muscle strength related test.

5-HT 및 AEW로 소양증(搔痒症)을 유발한 흰쥐에 대한 갈근(葛根)의 진양(鎭痒)효과 (Antipruritic Effects of Puerariae Radix on 5-HT or AEW-Induced Itch Behavior in Mice)

  • Objectives : To find antipruritic herbal medicines, we screened the water extracts of four herbal medicines which have been frequently prescribed to treat dermatologic diseases in oriental medicine. Methods : Water extracts of Bupleuri Radix, Scutellariae Radix, Cimicifugae Rhizoma and Puerariae Radix were administered at a dose of 300 mg/kg to male ICR mice. 1 hour later, serotonin hydrochloride dissolved in physiologic saline at a concentration of 100 nmol / 50${\mu}{\ell}$ was administered intradermally to the nape of the neck at a dose of 50${\mu}{\ell}$. Then the scratching behavior was observed. Dry skin pruritus was induced with cutaneous application of acetone / ether (1:1) mixture and water (AEW) to the rostral back of male ICR mice, twice a day for 5 days. 14 hours after the last application, the most effective material in the first experiment was administered perorally at doses of 75, 150, 300, 600 and 1200 mg/kg. 1 hour later, the scratching behavior was observed. Results : Water extracts of Puerariae Radix significantly inhibited the serotonin-induced scratching behavior and the mean of scratching bouts was reduced by half compared with the control group. Bupleuri Radix group also showed a 29% decrease in the mean of scratching bouts, but there was no statistical significance. Water extracts of Puerariae Radix also inhibited the AEW-induced scratching behavior, in a dose-dependent manner. The dose of 150 mg/kg showed the highest and statistically significant antipruritic effect. Conclusions : These results suggest that Puerariae Radix and its constituents have antipruritic effect, and are new candidates as antipruritic agents.

수용액에서 정제봉독 (PBV)과 봉독멜리틴 (BVM)의 안정성 비교 (The stability comparison of purified bee venom and bee venom melittin in aqueous solution)

  • 본 연구는 수용액 상태에서 정제봉독 (purified bee venom, PBV)과 봉독멜리틴 (bee venom melittin, BVM)을 보관하기 위하여 온도, 용매, 농도의 조건에 따른 안정성을 비교 실험한 결과이다. Prep-HPLC (column: C4)를 이용하여 정제봉독으로부터 98.2%인 봉독멜리틴을 분리하여 사용하였다. 용매에 따른 안정성 실험에서, 생리식염수의 경우 정제봉독은 안정성이 증가되고 봉독멜리틴은 감소되었다. 증류수의 조건에서 정제봉독의 안정성은 감소되었으나 봉독멜리틴은 증가되는 현상이 확인되었다. 봉독멜리틴의 안정성을 장기간 유지하기 위한 최적조건으로는 보관온도 4 ℃, 증류수, 시료의 농도는 1.0 mg/mL의 결과를 얻었다.
