Case Studies of Meteorological Disasters and Structural Safety Test of Ginseng Houses (인삼 제배 시설의 기상재해 사례 및 구조 안전성 검토)

  • According to the results of structural safety analysis, allowable safe snow depth for type B(wood frame with single span) was 25.9cm, and those for type A(wood frame with multi span) and type C and D (steel frame with multi span) were 17.6cm, 25.8cm, and 20.0cm respectively. An experiential example study on meteorological disasters indicated that a strong wind damage was experienced once every 20 years, and a heavy snow damage once every 9.5 years. The most serious disaster was a heavy snow and it was found that a half break or complete collapse of structures were experienced by about 70% of farmhouses.

  • Dynamic numerical analyses were performed to investigate the response of liquefaction remediation of rammed aggregate piers(RAP) on soft ground under free strain conditions. The safe factors of the soft ground reinforced by RAP during seismic loading of magnitude 6.5 were calculated. The results of simulation showed that factors of safety were affected various area replacement ratios, surcharge loads and depth of RAP systems.

  • To assure safe usage of railway rolling stock, it is important to evaluate the strength of the wheel which is core part in bogies. However, conventional standard testing methods using destructive technique could not evaluate mechanical properties of degraded wheels during rolling stock maintenance work. Instrumented indentation test is a new way to evaluate nondestructively the strength of mechanical components by analyzing indentation load-depth curves. In this study, to evaluate tensile strength of the wheel, instrumented indentation test is performed nondestructively according to KS B 0950. Furthermore, test results are examined by tensile test in accordance with KS R 9221.

  • In recent years, a number of special treatment procedures have been introduced to reestablish new tooth supporting tissues with varying degrees of success including guided tissue regeneration(GTR), bone grafting(BG) and the use of enamel matrix derivative(EMD). EMD is an extract of enamel matrix and contains amelogenins of various molecular weights. Emdogain(EMD) might have some advantages over other methods of regenerating the tissue supporting teeth lost by gum disease, such as less postoperative complications. Emdogain contains proteins(derived from developing pig teeth) believed to regenerate tooth attachment. The decrease in probing depth after EMD treatment is achieved primarily by clinical attachment gain and bone regeneration and only to a minor extent by gingival recession. In conclsion, EMD seems to be safe, was able to regenerate lost periodontal tissues in previously diseased sites based on clinical parameters.

  • Post these safety tips in any swimming area for all swimmers to read. 1. Always swim with companions. Swim only in area well supervised by lifeguards. 2. Never drink alcohol or use drugs when you're swimming or boating. 3. Always check the water depth. Walk in from shore or ease in from the dock or the edge of the pool. 4. Know the limits of your own swimming abilities. If you're a good swimmer, don't tempt nonswimmers or beginner swimmers to try to keep up with you. 5. Keep any eye on younger swimmers at all times. 6. Learn the proper way to dive in the water safely. Follow guidelines for safe diving. 7. Follow the lifeguards instructions and respect their judgment. Never fake an Emergency. Obey all swimming rules.

Experience of Workplace Violence among Intensive Care Unit Nurses (중환자실 간호사의 폭력경험)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the experience of workplace violence among intensive care unit nurses. Methods: The participants of this research were twelve registered nurses who work in the intensive care units (ICU) at the hospitals in Seoul and Gyunggido. Data were collected by individual in-depth interviews and analyzed using the phenomenological methodology by Colaizzi. Results: From significant statements, five theme clusters emerged as follow; 1) vulnerable young women to violence, 2) my own reflection was bruised and exhausted, 3) a hopeless everyday, 4) seeking a solution in relation, 5) establishing one's status as a professional nurse. Conclusion: This study provides a profound understanding on the experiences of workplace violence among ICU nurses. The hospitals are suggested to provide a safe environment by developing programs and policies to prevent and cope with hospital workplace violence for ICU nurses.

A Simulation Study on the Improvement of the Entrance Channel of Masan Harbour (마산항 출입 항로의 개선 방안에 관한 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • This work aims at examining the navigational safety of the entrance channels of Masan harbour and suggesting the way to improve ships' navigational safety through the channels. It has been found, from the on-scene investigation of the navigational safety at Masan, that the depth of the Budo-Sudo channel is not deep enough to cater for the largest vessel visiting the harbour, and that the No.2 navigational channel is not wide enough for the vessel. An additional new waterway, therefore, has been recommended to be established in the south of the Budo-Sudo channel so that the deep draft vessel can detour. The No.2 navigational channel has been recommended to be widen. The width of the channel was suggested to be 280 meters. A waterway design simulation methodology has been applied to examine the safety of the newly suggested channels. New channels have been proved to be safe from the experiment.

  • There is no easy answer to ensuring the world's rapid urban population growth is managed sustainably and in a manner that promotes economic growth, social cohesion, and health and wellbeing. However, densification of existing urban areas is increasingly recognised as an effective and socially responsible way for cities to accommodate growing populations and still operate as vital, vibrant spaces. The Future Spaces Foundation's Vital Cities: Transport Systems Scorecard explores how well-networked, safe and sustainable transport networks equip densifying cities to meet the needs of their rising and fast-changing populations. This paper uses data from the scorecard to examine the transport infrastructure and associated data networks of three large, rapidly densifying cities - Beijing, Mumbai and $S{\tilde{a}}o$ Paulo - and highlight the successful measures and policies implemented between them. It includes an in-depth explanation of the scorecard's methodology, and concludes with an appeal for people-focused transport design that values safety, urban vibrancy and individual wellbeing over corporate efficiency.

  • It is evaluated that electric shock risk in bath so that we made and designed a bathtub which is the same size in real public bath. And then, we did an experiment, provided of electric leakage in various conditions, so we measured how to form an electric potential and knew the electric potential is formed variously under exposed conductor in bath. Also, we made certain that electric shock risk is down if we insert an insulated pipe in bathtub pipe which is prevent from being formed the electric field sharply. The results show that the increased shock risk and safe distance are estimated by the bathtub of limited width and depth, and the voltage simulated on the basis of Flux 3D concept is compared with the measured value.

  • Heteroepitaxial growth of cubic silicon carbide films on Si(001) and Si(111) substrates at temperatures 900-$1000^{\circ}C$ has been achieved by high vacuum chemical vapor deposition using the single precursor 1, 3-disilabutane without carrying out the carbonization process of the substrate surfaces. The deposition temperature range is much lowered compared with conventiontional chemical vapor deposition where separate sources for silicon and carbon are employed. The deposition procedure is quite simple and safe. The qualities of the films were found to be very good judging from the results obtained by various characterization techniques including reflection high energy electron diffraction, X-ray diffraction, X-ray pole figure analysis, Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, Auger depth profiling, and transmission electron diffraction.
