  • 다중 전송율(16, 24, 32, 40kbps)을 제공하는 G.726 부호화기는 ADPCM (Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation) 부호화법을 사용한다. 본논문에서는 G.726 ADPCM 알고리즘을 C&S Technology에서 개발한 음성 신호 처리를 위한 범용 DSP인 CSD17C00A 칩을 이용하여 실시간 응용이 가능하도록 구현하였다. G.726에 대한 양방향 평가는 Codec Loopback test을 통해 수행되었으며, W-T에서 제공한 테스트 절차에 따라 평가되었다. 본 논문에서 구현된 G.726 부호화기는 평균 11 MIPS의 계산 속도를 갖고, 프로그램 메모리 크기는 2.8K Words이고, 데이터 메모리 크기는 550 Words 를 필요로 하였다.

Monitoring Bacterial Population Dynamics Using Real-Time PCR During the Bioremediation of Crude-Oil-Contaminated Soil

  • We evaluated the activity and abundance of the crude-oil-degrading bacterium Nocardia sp. H17-1 during bioremediation of oil-contaminated soil, using real-time PCR. The total petroleum hydrocarbon(TPH) degradation rate constants(k) of the soils treated with and without H17-1 were $0.103\;d^{-1}$ and $0.028\;d^{-1}$ respectively. The degradation rate constant was 3.6 times higher in the soil with H17-1 than in the soil without H17-1. In order to detect and quantify the Nocardia sp. H17-1 in soil samples, we quantified the genes encoding 16S ribosomal RNA(16S rRNA), alkane monooxygenase(alkB4), and catechol 2,3-dioxygenase(23CAT) with real-time PCR using SYBR green. The amounts of H17-1 16S rRNA and alkB4 detected increased rapidly up to 1,000-folds for the first 10 days, and then continued to increase only slightly or leveled off. However, the abundance of the 23CAT gene detected in H17-1-treated soil, where H17-1 had neither the 23CAT gene for the degradation of aromatic hydrocarbons nor the catechol 2,3-dioxygenase activity, did not differ significantly from that of the untreated soil($\alpha$=0.05,p>0.22). These results indicated that H17-1 is a potential candidate for the bioaugmentation of alkane-contaminated soil. Overall, we evaluated the abundance and metabolic activity of the bioremediation strain H17-1 using real-time PCR, independent of cultivation.

Effect of 17β-estradiol on Life History Parameters and Morphological Deformities in Tigriopus japonicus sensu lato: A Two-generation Studies (17β-estradiol에 노출된 저서성 요각류 Tigriopus japonicus s.l.의 세대간 생활사 및 형태학적 변이 연구)

  • To characterize ecotoxicological responses to a natural estrogen, $17{\beta}$-estradiol, we evaluated the life-history of the parental ($F_0$) and first generation ($F_1$) of the harpacticoid copepod, Tigriopus japonicus sensu lato. We evaluated the survival of nauplii and copepodites, the number of days until the emergence of copepodites and adult males, the sex ratio, brooding success, and the first brooding day of adult females. No significant differences in the survival rate were noted in response to treatments with different concentrations of $17{\beta}$-estradiol. However, $17{\beta}$-estradiol induced developmental delay and skewed the sex ratio toward males. Copepod development was delayed significantly in the 0.1 and $1\;{\mu}g\;l^{-1}$ $17{\beta}$-estradiol treatment groups relative to the control group, with a more pronounced delay in the $F_1$ group. Body length and biomass were significantly smaller in the $17{\beta}$-estradiol treated groups than in the controls. The male emergence of T. japonicus s.l. was very high in the 10 and $30\;{\mu}g\;l^{-1}$ $17{\beta}$-estradiol treatment group. Furthermore, exposure to $17{\beta}$-estradiol resulted in morphological deformities such as shrinking and swelling of the urosome, twisted setae of the caudal rami, setal loss of swimming legs, abnormal segmentation of antennules, and dwarfism.

Benzochloroporphyrin Derivative Induced Cytotoxicity and Inhibition of Tumor Recurrence During Photodynamic Therapy for Osteosarcoma

  • Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a promising cancer treatment modality that uses dye-sensitized photooxidation of biologic matter in target tissue. This study explored effects of the photosensitizer BCPD-17 during PDT for osteosarcoma. LM-8 osteosarcoma cells were treated with BCPD-17 and cell viability after laser irradiation was assessed in vitro with the 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. The effects of BCPD-17 during PDT recurrence were then examined on tumor-bearing mice in vivo. BCPD-17 had dosedependent cytotoxic effects on LM-8 osteosarcoma cells after laser irradiation which also had energy-dependent effects on the cells. The rate of local recurrence was reduced when marginal resection of mice tumors was followed by BCPD-17-mediated PDT. Our results indicated BCPD-17-mediated PDT in combination with marginal resection of tumors is a potentially new effective treatment for osteosarcoma.

  • $17{\alpha}$-hydroxylase and 17,20-lyase are enzymes encoded by the CYP17A1 gene and are required for the synthesis of sex steroids and cortisol. In $17{\alpha}$-hydroxylase deficiency, there are low blood levels of estrogens, androgens, and cortisol, and resultant compensatory increases in adrenocorticotrophic hormone that stimulate the production of 11-deoxycorticosterone and corticosterone. In turn, the excessive levels of mineralocorticoids lead to volume expansion and hypertension. Females with $17{\alpha}$-hydroxylase deficiency are characterized by primary amenorrhea and delayed puberty, with accompanying hypertension. Affected males usually have female external genitalia, a blind vagina, and intra-abdominal testes. The treatment of this disorder is centered on glucocorticoid and sex steroid replacement. In patients with $17{\alpha}$-hydroxylase deficiency who are being raised as females, estrogen should be supplemented, while genetically female patients with a uterus should also receive progesterone supplementation. Here, we report a case of a 21-year-old female with $17{\alpha}$-hydroxylase deficiency who had received inadequate treatment for a prolonged period of time. We also include a brief review of the recent literature on this disorder.

Influence of Various Cyclodextrins on the Stability of Hydrocortisone 17-Butyrate in Aqueous Solution

  • The stabilizing effects of $\alpha$-$\beta$-$\gamma$- and dimethyl-$\beta$-cyclodextrins $(\alpha$-, $\beta$-, $\gamma$- and DM-$\beta-$-CyDs) on the degradation of hydrocortisone 17-butyrate (HC-17B) in aqueous solution was investigated. Hc-17B underwent a facile hydroxide ion-catalyzed rearrangement to the less active 21-butyrate ester by the apparent first-order kinetics, and maximum stability of HC-17B was obtained at around pH 4.0. The stability of HC-17B was increased by inclusion complexation with $\alpha$-, $\gamma$- and DM-$\beta$-CyD in the pH range of 2.0-8.0 examined, whereas $\beta$-CyD accelerated the degradation of HC-17B at the pH higher than 5.0. The effects of ionic strength, solvent, temperature and CyD concentration were also investigated. Stability constants and apparent degradation rate constants of HC-17B-$\gamma$-CyD and HC-17B-DM-$\beta$-CyD complexes were determined kinetically on the basis of 1:1 complexation. The results suggested that the inclusion complexation with $\gamma$-CyD or DM-$\beta$-CyD was most useful means to enhance the stability of the steroid.

A Study of the Characteristics of Costumes in the Mid-17th Century: Ryu Ji Kyung's Costumes (유지경(1576~1650) 출토복식에 나타난 17세기 중기 의복 특징에 관한 연구)

  • The number of Ryu Ji Kyung's costumes that have been discovered is small but includes various kinds of coat. These coats have become important clues when trying to determine styles of coat that were present in the mid-17he composition of the costumes found were various, including unlined, lined, padded and quilted variations. Unlined clothes were sewed using broad-stitching, hemming, half backstitching, and backstitching. The unique sewing style of the 17th century was shown in Ryu Ji Kyung's costumes. Seams on the back of one coat were not connected but rather sewed as a whole because of the width of the cloth. There was a more elaborate sewing style on lined clothes than on unlined clothes, alongside the use of selvage on the reverse of the costumes, marking the face not by using other clothes, but by the sewing line. Because of their to kit types, the width of the sleeves, the presence of a Cheolrik string, the ratio of the upper jacket to the bottom skirt, and the width between the armpits and bottom hems in Jungchimak, Ryu Ji Kyung's clothes can be used as exemplary models of mid-17th century clothing.
