In this study, threshold runoff which is a hydrologic component of flash flood guidance(FFG) is estimated by using Manning's bankfull flow and Geomorphoclimatic Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph(GcIUH) methods on Han River watershed. Geographic Information System(GIS) and 3' Digital Elevation Model database have been used to prepare the basin parameters of a very fine drainage area($1.02\~56.41km^2$), stream length and stream slope for threshold runoff computation. Also, cross-sectional data of basin and stream channel are collected for a statistical analysis of regional regression relationships and then those are used to estimate the stream parameters. The estimated threshold runoff values are ranged from 2 mm/h to 14 mm/6hr on Han River headwater basin with the 1-hour duration values are$97\%$ up to 8mm and the 6-hour values are $98\%$ up to 14mm. The sensitivity analysis shows that threshold runoff is more variative to the stream channel cross-sectional factors such as a stream slope, top width and friction slope than the drainage area. In comparisons between the computed threshold runoffs on this study area and the three other regions in the United States, the computed results on Han River watershed are reasonable.

In order to assess hydrologic and nonpoint source pollutant behaviors in a watershed with Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model, the accuracy evaluation of SWAT model should be conducted prior to the application of it to a watershed. When calibrating and validating hydrological components of SWAT model, the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (EI) has been widely used. However, the EI value has been known as it is affected sensitively by big numbers among the range of numbers. In this study, a Web-based flow clustering EI estimation system using K-means clustering algorithm was developed and used for SWAT hydrology evaluation. Even though the EI of total streamflow was high, the EI values of hydrologic components (i.e., direct runoff and baseflow) were not high. Also when the EI values of flow group I and II (i.e., low and high value group) clustered from direct runoff and baseflow were computed, respectively, the EI values of them were much lower with negative EI values for some flow group comparison. The SWAT auto-calibration tool estimated values also showed negative EI values for most flow group I and II of direct runoff and baseflow although EI value of total streamflow was high. The result obtained in this study indicates that the SWAT hydrology component should be calibrated until all four positive EI values for each flow group of direct runoff and baseflow are obtained for better accuracy both in direct runoff and baseflow.
This paper investigates the applicability of a modified version of TOPMODEL considering shallow subsurface storm flow in a forested mountaneous catchment. The macroporous soil structure provides a hydrological pathway for rapid runoff generation. A modified version of TOPMODEL introduces the two-storage system to analyze the hydrograph recession including rapid subsurface storm flow component. The two-month continuous hydrologic simulations of sulmachun watershed suggest that a modified version of TOPMODEL represents comprehensive and realistic flow generation mechanism comparing to those of an original version of TOPMODEL. The results of parameter calibration with Monte-Carlo method indicate a modified version of TOPMODEL produces a set of physically meaningful parameters.

PADDIMOD2 was deloped to estimate nonpoint source pollution from paddy rice fields. The PADDIMOD2 was enhanced to estimate runoff and pollutant load during non-growing as well as growing season and to be easily used for public by development of Excel based system. Nutrient concentration and hydrology were based on Dirac delta function and continuous source function, and tank model for growing season and Event Mean Concentrations (EMCs) and SCS-Curve Number method for non-growing season. The PADDIMOD2 consists of three main component (input data, parameters data, and output data) by including eight Excel spread sheets. As a result of model application, total precipitation and irrigation were 1,051.7 mm and 439.2 mm, respectivley and surface runoff and water loss including infiltration and evapotranspiration were 463.0 mm and 947.9 mm, respectively. Annual nutrient loadings of T-N and T-P from study area were 6.7 kg/$km^2$/day and 0.5 kg/$km^2$/day, respectively. Development of PADDIMOD2 was focused on minimizing input data and maximizing user friendly system and is expected to be useful tool to evaluate various non-structure BMPs and estimate unit load from paddy rice fields for application at Korean TMDL.

In this study, long term semi distributed hydrologic model SWAT-K(Korea) is applied to the Seolma-Cheon watershed to analyze the hydrological components. Seolma-Cheon watershed has been operated as the test watershed of Korea Institute of Construction Technology for 13 years. Therefore it has an enough hydrologic data to analyze the hydrologic characteristics of small watershed. Especially, for the proper runoff analysis of steep watershed, calibration is performed reflecting the regression equation of slope and slope length. The simulated discharge shows good agreement with the observed one and the simulated evapotranspiration and groundwater discharge also show satisfactory results. Finally we presents the ratio of major hydrologic components for 3 years with those obsrved ones. This study is the basic research for future analyses such as relationship between hydrologic components and vegetation, watershed sediment nonpoint sources discharge etc.

Climate models, both global and regional, have increased in sophistication and are being run at increasingly higher resolutions. The Land Surface Models (LSMs) coupled to these climate models have evolved from simple bucket models to sophisticated Soil-Vegetation-Atmosphere Transfer (SVAT) schemes needed to support complex linkages and processes. However, some underpinnings of terrestrial hydrologic parameterizations so crucial in the predictions of surface water and energy fluxes cause model errors that often manifest as non-linear drifts in the dynamic response of land surface processes. This requires the improved parameterizations of key processes for the terrestrial hydrologic scheme to improve the model predictability in surface water and energy fluxes. The Common Land Model (CLM), one of state-of-the-art LSMs, is the land component of the Community Climate System Model (CCSM). However, CLM also has energy and water biases resulting from deficiencies in some parameterizations related to hydrological processes. This research presents the implementation of a selected set of parameterizations and their effects on the runoff prediction. The modifications consist of new parameterizations for soil hydraulic conductivity, water table depth, frozen soil, soil water availability, and topographically controlled baseflow. The results from a set of offline simulations are compared with observed data to assess the performance of the new model. It is expected that the advanced terrestrial hydrologic scheme coupled to the current CLM can improve model predictability for better prediction of runoff that has a large impact on the surface water and energy balance crucial to climate variability and change studies.
SWAT-K model is a modified version of the original SWAT, and is known to more accurately estimate the streamflows and pollutant loadings in Korean watersheds. In this study, its hydrological components were compared with those of HSPF in order to analyse the differences in total runoff including evapotranspiration(ET), surface flow, lateral flow and groundwater flow from the Chungju Dam watershed during $2000{\sim}2006$. Averaged annual runoff with SWAT-K overestimated by 1%, and HSPF underestimated it by 3% than observed runoff. Determination coefficients($R^2$) for observed and simulated daily streamflows by both the models were relatively good(0.80 by SWAT-K and 0.82 by HSPF). Potential ET and actual ET by HSPF were lower in winter, but similar or higher than those by SWAT-K. And though there were some differences in lateral and groundwater flows by two models because of the differences in hydrological algorithms, the results were to be reasonable. From the results, it was suggested that we should utilize a proper model considering the characteristic of study area and purposes of the model application because the simulated results from same input data could be different with models used. Also we should develop a novel model appropriate to Korean watersheds by enhancing limitations of the existing models in the future.

Natural environment of Weolgok-ri watershed has been well preserved as a traditional agricultural watershed. A year record of streamflow, $NO_3-N$, T-N and T-P concentrations data(Apr, 2004-Mar. 2005) was examined to estimate annual and seasonal patterns of pollutnat loads in streamflow and baseflow from the agriculture watershed. To estimate pollutant loads from baseflow, baseflow component from total stream flow was seperated using digital filter method in the Web-based Hydrograph Analysis Tool system. Loads of $NO_3-N$, T-N and T-P from streamflow and baseflow were evaluated to investigate pollutant loads contribution by baseflow. The $NO_3-N$, T-N, and T-P loads from streamflow were 13.85 kg/ha, 45.92 kg/ha and 1.887 kg/ha, respectively. $NO_3-N$, T-N and T-P loads from baseflow were 7.43 kg/ha, 24.70 kg/ha, 0.582 kg/ha, respectively. It was found that $NO_3-N$ and T-N loads were contributed by the baseflow(53% and 53% of Total-loads) than the direct runoff(47% and 47% of Total loads). However, only 30% of total T-P was contributed by the baseflow. It is recommended that one needs to assess pollutant load contribution by the baseflow to identify appropriate control strategies for effective watershed management.

Low impact development (LID) is a widely used technology that aims to reduce the peak flow volume and amount of pollutants in stormwater runoff while introducing physicochemical, biological or a combination of both mechanisms in order to improve water quality. This research aimed to determine the effect of hydrologic factors in removing the pollutants on stormwater runoff by an LID facility. Monitored storm events from 2010-2018 were analysed to evaluate the hydraulic and hydrological performance of a small constructed wetland (SCW). Standard methods for the examination water and wastewater were employed to assess the water quality of the collected samples (APHA et al, 1992). Primary hydrologic data were obtained from the Korea Meteorological Administration. The recorded average rainfall intensity and antecedent dry days (ADD) of SCW were 5.26 mm/hr and 7 days respectively. During the highest rainfall event (27 mm/hr), the removal efficiency of SCW for all the pollutants was ranging from 67% to 91%. While on the lowest rainfall event (0.7 mm/hr), the removal efficiency was ranging from -36% to 62%. Rainfall intensity has a significant effect to the removal efficiencies of each facility due to its dilution factor. In addition to that, there was no significant correlation of ADD to the mean concentrations of pollutants. Generally, stormwater runoff contains significant amount of pollutants that can cause harmful effects to the environment if not treated. Also, the component of this LID facility such as pre-treatment zone, media filters and vegetation contributed to the effectivity of the LID facilities in reducing the amounts of pollutants present in stormwater runof.
This study was carried out to reveal the influence of discharge change on matters and stream water quality between pH, EC and dissolved matters obtained by observation of long-term and short-term on stream water quality and separated runoff components from stream water by using HYCYMODEL. From January in 1998 to September in 1999, it was estimated by relationships of character of water quality and discharge for the experimental watershed in Mt. Palgong. The results were summarized as follows : 1. Annual average pH values of stream water in 1998 and in 1999 were 6.48(6.22~6.89) and 6.52(5.75~7.18), respectively. The observed annual average pH values were maintaining identical values in general, but pH values decreased continuously during the four months after thinning in the experimental watershed. So thinning is suspected of the major cause for the decrease. 2. Annual average EC values of stream water in 1998 and in 1999 were $26.69(17.95{\sim}33.5){\mu}S/cm$ and $25.19(17.5{\sim}33.8){\mu}S/cm$, respectively. The observed annual average EC values were maintaining identical values in general. 3. As a result of the comparison of average dissolved ions of rainfall and stream water, $Na^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Cl^-$, $NO_3{^-}$, and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ showed minus values between incomings and outgoings. $Na^+$ and $NO_3{^-}$ among the dissolved ions of stream water showed the highest concentration out of cations and anions respectively. 4. By the change of pH value in stream water due to rainfall events, pH value decreased with increasing runoff as pH value increased before and after peak flow. 5. By the change of EC value in stream water due to rainfall events, EC value decreased with increasing runoff of first rainfall as EC value changed with runoff before and after peak flow. 6. As the runoff increased, the concentration of $Na^+$, $Ca^{2+}$, $K^+$, total cation, $Cl^-$, and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ in stream water lowered. On the other hand, the runoff decreased, their concentration in stream water tended to get high. But in terms of $NO_3{^-}$ and total anion, they turned out vice versa. $Mg^{2+}$ produced no reaction. 7. The base flow among runoff components separated by using HYCYMODEL influenced greatly on pH, EC, concentration of cation and anion.
