A Novel Route Discovery Scheme Equipped with Two Augmented Functions for Ad Hoc Networks

  • 'The delay and control overhead during route discovery for destinations outside ad hoc networks are major obstacle to achieving scalability in the Internet. To solve this issue, we propose a novel route discovery scheme equipped with two augmented functions. In this paper, the Internet gateway maintains an address cache of Internet nodes frequently accessed from the ad hoc network and replies with an extended Route Response (RREP) message to the Route Request (RREQ) message based on its routing table and the address cache called EXIT(EXternal node Information Table). These augmented functions make the source node determine the location of the destination as fast as possible. Through simulations, the proposed route discovery scheme using both EXIT and extended RREP message shows considerable' reduction in both route discovery time and control message overhead.

  • In this paper, we propose new agent discovery and route discovery schemes to support Mobile IP (MIP) in Ad Hoc networks with wireless backbone. The wireless backbone consisting of stationary wireless routers and Internet gateways (IGs) is a kind of wireless access network of IP-based core network. The proposed scheme utilizes favorable features of wireless backbone such as stable links and no energy constraints. In the agent discovery scheme, backbone-limited periodic Agent Advertisement (AA) and proxy-AA messages are used, which reduce network-wide broadcasting overhead caused by AA and Agent Solicitation messages and decentralize MIP processing overhead in IGs. In order to reduce delay time and control message overhead during route discovery far the destination outside Ad Hoc network, we propose a cache-based scheme which can be easily added to the conventional on-demand routing protocols. The proposed schemes can reduce control overhead during agent discovery and route discovery, and efficiently support MIP in Ad Hoc network with wireless backbone.

Mitigating the Impact of Mobility on H.264 Real-Time Video Streams Using Multiple Paths

  • One of the main problems associated with MANETs is that mobility and the associated route discovery and maintenance procedures of reactive routing protocols cause severe interruptions on real-time video streams. Some of these interruptions are too large to be concealed using any sort of video technology, resulting in communications breaks unpleasant for the final end user. We present a solution for enhanced video transmission that increases route stability by using an improved route discovery process based on the DSR routing protocol, along with traffic splitting algorithms and a preventive route discovery mechanism. We also present some video adaptative mechanisms that improve the overall performance of multipath routing in terms of video data replication and video packet splitting strategies. Combining our proposals, we achieve up to 97% less interruptions on communication with high mobility and over 1.2 dB of improvements in terms of video distortion.

  • These days wireless sensor networks receive much attention from industry and researchers on various fields. The challenge is that wireless sensor networks have limited resources. Nevertheless, the route discovery in ZigBee sensor networks is performed by simple flooding when the original racket is rebroadcasted at least once by every node in a network. Such uncontrolled flooding generates an excessive number of packets competing for the media and causes a high collision rate. In this article, we propose a suitable packet Time-To-Live value to solve problems of uncontrolled flooding in ZigBee networks. It is shown that more sufficient route discovery in a ZigBee network can save network resources and lengthen the life of a sensor network.

ASESDP : An Efficient Service Discovery Protocol in Pervasive Computing Environments

  • Service discovery is the technology of finding needed services in networks, and a key point in pervasive computing environments. This paper presents a novel service discovery protocol: ASESDP(AIP and SRR Enhanced Service Discovery Protocol). In ASESDP, tow schemes are proposed to enhance its performance: AIP(Advertisement Information Piggybacked) and SRR(Shortest Reply Route). In AIP, parts of advertisement information are piggybacked in the service reply packet, which makes the advertisement information propagating along the reply path, and spreads its transmission area. In SRR, in order to reduce the service response time, the shortest reply route is chosen to forward the service reply packet to the source node sending the service request. With the theoretical analysis and Glomosim simulation results, it is verified that ASESDP can reduce the number of service request packets, save the response time, and improve the efficiency of service discovery.

  • Establishing a fixed path for the message delivery through a wireless network is impossible due to the mobility. Among the number of routing protocols that have been proposed for wireless ad-hoc networks, the AODV(Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector) algorithm is suitable in the case of highly dynamic topology changes, along with ZigBee Routing(ZBR), with the exception of route maintenance. Accordingly, this paper introduces a routing scheme focusing on the energy efficiency and route discovery time for wireless alarm systems using IEEE 802.15.4-based ZigBee. Essentially, the proposed routing algorithm utilizes a cluster structure and applies ZBR within a cluster and DSR (Dynamic Source Routing) between clusters. The proposed algorithm does not require a routing table for the cluster heads, as the inter-cluster routing is performed using DSR. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated and compared with ZBR using an NS2 simulator. The results confirm that the proposed Cluster-based AODV (CAODV) algorithm is more efficient than ZBR in terms of the route discovery time and energy consumption.

단방향 링크를 지원하는 이동 Ad Hoc 라우팅 프로토콜 (Mobile Ad Hoc Routing Protocol Supporting Unidirectional Links)

  • 본 논문에서는 단방향 링크를 포함하는 이동 Ad Hoc 망에 대해 비대칭 경로를 지원하는 동적 소스 라우팅 프로토콜을 제안하였다. 기존의 동적 소스 라우팅 프로토콜은 양방향 링크로 구성된 대칭경로만을 지원하도록 구현되어있다. 그러나 실제적인 무선환경에서는 단말의 비대칭성이나 무선환경 특성등에 기인한 단방향 링크가 존재할 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 좀 더 일반적인 무선환경에 맞는 이동 Ad Hoc 망 라우팅 프로토콜을 구현하기 위하여 단방향 링크를 지원하도록 하였다. 특히 이동성으로 인한 경로 실패를 인식한 경우, 신속한 경로 재설정을 수행하기 위해 다중경로유지 기법을 사용하였다. 성능평가는 평균 경로설정시간 및 평균 데이터수신율에 대해 수행하였으며, 그 값을 얻기 위해 경로 상에 중간노드캐쉬의 사용여부 및 서로 다른 이동성과 연결성을 제공하는 시나리오를 고려하여, 100초 단위로 900초까지 성능평가를 수행하였다.

  • 이동 노드의 증가와 무선 네트워크 기반의 서비스 요구의 다양화로 무선 메시 네트워크(WMN)가 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 하지만 WMN를 실제 서비스하기 위해서는 아직 해결해야 할 과제가 많이 남아있다. 네트워크 계층에서는 라우팅 프로토콜의 성능개선이 주요 해결 과제이다. 무선 네트워크에서의 다중 홉라우팅과 노드가 호스트와 라우터의 역할을 동시에 수행한다는 관점에서 WMN은 모바일 에드혹 네트워크(MANET)와 유사하여 MANET의 라우팅 프로토콜의 사용을 통해 쉽게 구축이 가능하다. 하지만 MANET의 라우팅 프로토콜은 대부분이 네트워크의 규모가 커지면 전송 오버헤드나 지연시간이 증가한다는 단점이 있다. 이는 WMN에 의한 무선 네트워크의 확장에 있어 성능저하의 원인이며 이를 개선하기 위하여 많은 연구들이 진행되었다. 본 논문에서는 AODV를 계층형으로 개선하여 혼합형 WMN에 적용하기 위한 방안으로써 도메인 기반 AODV에 대하여 제안한다. 제안된 방안은 AODV의 요구형 경로 결정을 도메인 단위로 구분 수행함으로써 종단 간 수행되는 평균 경로 결정 거리를 줄여 네트워크의 확장성 문제를 해결한다. 제안된 방안의 시뮬레이션 결과 AODV에 비하여 네트워크의 확장에 대한 지연시간의 증가가 완만하였다.

  • 에드 혹 네트워크에 사용되는 라우팅 프로토콜인 AODV(Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector)는 ERS(Expanding Ring Search) 알고리즘으로 경로설정 과정에서의 라우팅 패킷 재전송을 제어한다. 그러나 기존의 ERS는 라우팅 패킷 재전송의 기준이 되는 NTT(Node Traversal Time) 계산에 이동성이 높은 네트워크 상황을 적절하게 반영하지 못한다. 본 논문은 NTT 계산에 RREP(Route Reply) 패킷을 사용하고 출발지 노드와의 인접도에 따라 각 노드의 NTT에 가중치를 달리 적용함으로써 라우팅 패킷의 재전송률을 낮추는 방법을 제안하고 ns2를 이용하여 기존의 ERS와 성능을 비교한다.

DSR Based Bluetooth Scatternet

  • Bluetooth technology of cable replacement and infrastructure access is verified enough to be commercialized as goods. But there are a lot of works to implement ad-hoc Bluetooth radio network. for this, scatternet must be formed. We propose routing layer, packet format and link formation schemes for scatternet. The page procedure of the route request and the route reply page eliminates the procedure of the inquiry and the master-slave role switching. The route discovery time could be lower than 50msec within the distance of 50m. Proposed link formation scheme lets master, slave and bridge establish connection automatically and offers active ad-hoc environment. Devices that adopt Bluetooth module of 10m transmission range can communicate with other devices far away without any intervention of users.
