In this paper, modified two-port time-domain passivity approach is proposed for stable bilateral control of teleoperators under time-varying communication delay. We separate input and output energy at each port of a bilateral controller, and propose a sufficient condition for satisfying the passivity of the bilateral controller including time-delay. Output energy at the master port should be less than the transmitted input energy from the slave port with time-delay, and output energy at the slave port should be less than the transmitted input energy from the master port with time-delay. For satisfying above two conditions, two passivity controllers are attached at each port of the bilateral controller. A packet reflector with wireless internet connection is used to introduce serious time-varying communication delay of teleoperators. Average amount of time-delay was about 190(msec) for round trip, and varying between 175(msec) and 275(msec). Moreover some data packet was lost during the communication due to UDP data communication. Even under the serious time-varying delay and packet loss communication condition, the proposed approach can achieve stable teleoperation in free motion and hard contact as well.

We design a NCS (Networked Control System) where the communication between sensors and controllers takes place over a USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network). In order to measure time delays between sensors and controllers in real time, we design an algorithm to measure RTT (Round Trip Time) between USN nodes, and implement it into TinyOS of USN. By using the measured time delays, we construct the Smith predictor to compensate the time delays between sensors and controllers in real-time. For the real time experiment, we simulate the dynamic plant model, controller, and USN interface using Real-Time Windows Target provided in MATLAB. The USN interface in the Simulink model consists of serial ports, which connect the plant output and controller with USN nodes. The experiment results show that the time delays between sensors and controllers are precisely measured in real time; the Smith predictor appropriately compensates the time delays; and the stability is achieved in the closed-loop of the NCS.

The rapid reconstruction of a transfer path is caused by frequent secession of nodes in many applications using overlay multicast. For this, however, many studies have been proposed, but a study of fast path recovery is required. This paper proposes a new method for fast path recovery to improve the path reconstruction time and for stable path maintain caused by the sudden secession of the parent node on overlay multicast. The proposed method uses the virtual transfer path and the candidate parent node for the fast path recovery. All nodes exchange periodically the RTT (Round Trip Time) information between the other nodes of similar position itself and neighboring node. All nodes have a candidate parent node list, and each node stores the exchanged RTT information on the list. Each node constructs the virtual transfer path to reduce the recovery time after deciding a candidate parent node that is one of them by the RTT order. In this way, when the parent node is seceded, all nodes can recover the transfer path quickly using the virtual transfer path. The simulation result showed that the recovery time of the proposed method is an average 30% faster than the known method.

Widespread use of smart devices accompanies increase of use of access point (AP), which enables the connection to the wireless network. If the appropriate security is not served when a user tries to connect the wireless network through an AP, various security problems can arise due to the rogue APs. In this paper, we are going to examine the threat by evil-twin, which is a kind of rogue APs. Most of recent researches for detecting rogue APs utilize the measured time difference, such as round trip time (RTT), between the evil-twin and authorized APs. These methods, however, suffer from the low detection rate in the network congestion. Due to these reasons, in this paper, we suggest a new factor, packet inter-arrival time (PIAT), in order to detect evil-twins. By using both RTT and PIAT as the learning factors for the support vector machine (SVM), we determine the non-linear metric to classify evil-twins and authorized APs. As a result, we can detect evil-twins with the probability of up to 96.5% and at least 89.75% even when the network is congested.

In this paper, we extend the multiple time scale control framework to window-based congestion control, in particular, TCP This is performed by interfacing TCP with a large tine scale control nodule which adjusts the aggressiveness of bandwidth consumption behavior exhibited by TCP as a function of "large time scale" network state. i.e., conformation that exceeds the horizon of the feedback loop as determined by RTT Our contribution is threefold. First, we define a modular extension of TCP-a function call with a simple interface-that applies to various flavors of TCP-e.g., Tahoe, Reno, Vegas and show that it significantly improves performance. Second, we show that multiple time scale TCP endows the underlying feedback control with preactivity by bridging the uncertainty gap associated with reactive controls which is exacerbated by the high delay-bandwidth product in broadband wide area networks. Third, we investigate the influence of three traffic control dimensions-tracking ability, connection duration, and fairness-on performance. Performance evaluation of multiple time scale TCP is facilitated by a simulation bench-mark environment which is based on physical modeling of self-similar traffic.

In this paper, we propose an asynchronous UWB (Ultra Wide Band) Positioning scheme that can provide precise positioning performance with low complexity and low power consumption. We also present the residual test to improve the positioning performance in multipath channels having heavy NLoS (Non-Line of Sight) components. As compared to conventional ToA (Time of Arrival) positioning scheme that requires round-trip transmissions as many as the number of beacons, the proposed UWB positioning scheme effectively decrease power consumption and processing delay since a single round-trip transmission is only required. Also, as compared to conventional TDoA (Time Difference of Arrival) positioning scheme requiring precise synchronization among the beacons, asynchronous nature of the proposed scheme achieves very low system complexity. Through simulations in LoS (Line of Sight) channel models, we observe that the proposed scheme requires low system complexity, low power consumption, while providing positioning performance of almost the same accuracy as the conventional ToA and TDoA positioning schemes. In addition, the proposed scheme by employing the residual test achieves accurate positioning performance even in multipath channels having heavy NLoS components.

This paper proposes the design of a novel distributed message management scheme using a message-oriented management and analysis tool (MOMAT) for naval combat system (NCS) middle-ware. If a message is not guaranteed real-time of the NCS with each node, it causes the loss of data and decreases the reliability of systems. To solve these problems, improved message management schemes are proposed. Message management schemes are considering a real-time user management scheme and a real-time traffic management scheme. The proposed schemes are simulated with a developed simulation tool, data publisher, and subscriber connected through nodes in middle-ware. The simulation results show improved results in terms of message round-trip time (RTT), End-to-End delay, and throughput.

Recently new periodic markets formed in large apartment areas where consumers live. Before, in the case of peasant periodic markets travelling merchants, consumers and producers met in specific places on decided dates. Closing time of apartment's new periodic markets is later than that of peasant periodic markets, and the number of travelling merchants is fewer than that of peasant periodic markets. The average number of apartment and household for a new periodic market is about ten and 920 respectively, and if neighboring apartment household are included, the number is larger. Apartment's new periodic markets in Cheongju city is included in Daejeon market area. The types of regional trip of travelling merchants can be divided into one round trip of two or three neighboring dongs and larger sphere of more than 4 dongs. The larger sphere round trip consists of one type combining the southeastern, southern and southwestern regions, and the other type combining southeastern and southwestern regions. About 85 percent of travelling merchants visit the periodic market 5 days in a week; about 12 percent of travelling merchants choose to visit on Saturday; only 2 percent of travelling merchants visit 4 days in a week.
A V2X system can be a candidate as a means to increase the stability of autonomous vehicles. In particular, in order to implement a Level 4 or higher autonomous driving system, the application of the V2X system is essential. Wireless communication technologies applicable to the V2X system include WAVE and C-V2X. Currently, the V2X service most used by autonomous driving systems is a service that provides signal phase and timing information and since real-time characteristic is a very important, verification of this service must be done. In this paper, we measured the time delay characteristics for providing signal phase and timing information using WAVE and LTE communication, and proposed a TOD-based signal phase and timing information generation method without using V2X communication system. To analyze the time delay characteristics, RTT (Round Trip Time) was measured as a result of the measurement. Average RTT using WAVE communication was 5.84ms and was 104.15ms with LTE communication. As a result of measuring the error between the signal phase and timing information generated based on TOD and the actual traffic light state, it was measured to be -0.284~3.784sec.
In the wireless network, TCP performs poorly because it was originally designed for wired networks and does not take into consideration wireless characteristics such as mobility, high-loss probability, and hidden-terminal problems. In particular, in the wireless multi-hop networks, a large congestion window increases the probability of contention and packet losses, and TCP performance is degraded severely as a result. So, it is necessary to limit the TCP congestion window size in order keep the probability of contention loss in the system to a minimum. In this paper, we propose a new scheme for determining the maximum congestion window size based on the measured bandwidth and Round-Trip-Time (RTT). Using ns-2 simulation, we show that the proposed scheme reduces the probability of packet contention and improves TCP performance.
