  • Tumors of trachea are uncommon and benign tumors are rare in adults. Tracheal tumors are overlooked as a cause of pulmonary symptoms. Neurilemmoma is originated from Schwann cells of nerve sheath, which are characterized by benign, solitary, and encapsulated mass. Although it may occur most frequently in the head and neck region, the neurilemmoma of trachea is extremely rare. We report a case in a 55-year-old man who presented with mild exertional dyspnea and foreign body sensation. The round encapsulated mass was demonstrated in posterior wall of trachea and removed by tracheofissure.

  • The spermatogenesis of pale chub (Zacco platypus) was investigated morphologically. The testis of pale chub contained numerous testicular sacs. These testicular sacs were bounded on neighboring sacs by single layer of squamous cells. Also, differentiated sperms were filled in the sacs. In the stage of spermatogonium, the germ cells had a large nucleus and a distinct nucleolus, and mitochondrial development was prominent. In the primary and secondary spermatogonia, these cells had a round electron-dense nucleus, reduced cytoplasm, and mitochondria were congregated in the side of cytoplasm. The highly condensed chromatin of sperms was electron-dense, the acrosome was not found in the head of the sperm and a motile flagellum consisted of an axoneme with a typical 9+2 pattern of microtubules.

  • This paper presents the signal processing of the panoramic thermal warning system that detects the small target such as aircraft and helicopter from afar. We develope the all round looking thermal imaging system which can scan all the way. This system acquires the panoramic images to reconstruct the IR images by revolving head of sensor typed line sensor at high speed. For detection, where the object of interest may be small, it is sometimes difficult to specify from object and background by conventional contrast enhancement methods. Therefore we use the adaptive plateau equalization algorithm each region to improve the contrast and make the hardware system which consists of the signal processing board for real-time display. We can verify the proposed method by the computer simulation and the hardware implementation.

  • According to Scythian tradition, many burials contained numerous artifacts, from weapons and harness to everyday objects and a multiplicity of personal adornments. Most valuable of all is the Scythian Gold often lavishly decorated with precious stones. The detailed images on these pieces make it possible for us to picture the appearance of the Scythians, their clothes and weapons. Scythian Gold Plaques were attached to the fabric in such a way that when they moved with each movement of the wearer it created what must have been a dazzling sight in bright daylight. Scythian Gold Plaques were divided into several types according to the shape, animal style(curved beast shape, profile shape, head reversed over its back shape), round shape, quadrilateral form, star shape, flower shape, crescent shape, bundle shape, human appearance. Through the antique tombs bequests of Three Kingdom States hereby describe the original forms of their source of Baekje gold plaque were influenced by Scythe style. Like nearly all Scythian ornaments, such gold pieces were designed to maximize various magical powers and to signify the owner's importance relative to his fellow tribesmen.

  • Two cymothoid isopods, Rocinela niponia Richradson, 1909 and Bopyrus squillarum Latreille, 1802, are first reported from Korean waters. Rocinela niponia can be distinguished from its congeners by the following characteristics: the rostral point is round; the eyes are separated from each other; and each pereopods 1-3 has the propodal blade bearing eight robust setae. Bopyrus squillarum is distinguishable from its related species by the following characteristics: the head is separated from pereonite 1, but partially fused on the lateral margins; the first pleonite on the short side is much smaller than other segments; and it is parasitic on the branchial chamber of Palaemon serrifer. Detailed descriptions and figures of these two species are provided in this paper.

  • We describe four cases of feline progressive histiocytosis (FPH) including three females (one intact, two spayed) and one castrated male cat, with a mean age of 5.95 years at diagnosis. Masses were found under the skin of head, lip, neck, and vulva. Histologically, proliferative round cells had ovoid nuclei, foamy eosinophilic cytoplasm, distinct cytoplasmic processes, and numerous mitotic figures. Immunohistochemically, all cases were positive for Iba1 and MHC II (Dako). One case showed cytoplasmic positive staining for E-cadherin. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first documented report of FPH in Korea.

  • Liposarcoma is one of the most common malignant mesenchymal neoplasm, comprising approximately 15% of all soft tissue sarcoma. This is a tumor with an incidence peak between age 40 and 60 years, and is slightly more common in men than women. Although all body region may be involved, the most frequent sites are lower extremities and retroperitoneum but rare in the head and neck region. Liposarcoma can be classified to four subtypes ; myxoid, well-differentiated, round-cell, pleomorphic. The myxoid type is the most common and accounts for almost one half of all liposarcoma. Wide surgical excision with or without radiation therapy has been used to manage this lesion. We report a case of 50-year old man with soft tissue swelling on the left cheek, previously diagnosed as myxoid liposarcoma in the left lower extremity. After radiologic and ultrasonic study and surgical excision with biopsy, the lesion of cheek was diagnosed as myxoid liposarcoma with round cell differentiation.

  • The Mural Tomb of Xu Xianxiu(AD 571), a high ranking official in Northern Qi period, is located in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, China. Despite having been raided, it was still discovered to contain over 530 pieces, such as artifacts and murals, in excellent state of preservation. These murals are noteworthy for their high level of detail compared to other murals from the same era, and are important for understanding the historical context of active East-West and Han-Hu cultural exchange in the $6^{th}$ to $7^{th}$ century. The murals of Xu Xianxiu's tomb depict round-collared and narrow-sleeved garments as well as straight collared robes typical of the Xianbei tribe's attire. Notable are the ermine fur overcoat and a headwear with flares on the left and right thought to be unique to the Xianbei. The wife and female servants show female attire of the Xianbei at the time; this attire can be characterized by narrow-sleeved long gowns and asymmetrical flying-bird buns. Despite the anti-Han policy of Northern Qi, influences such as the right sided gathering of the robes and embellished hair styles remain. The procession also depicts the three-cornered headdress and long-tailed hood of the Xianbei men, which have been recorded in documents. The large rounded pearl pattern containing the palmette, the divine animal, and bodhisattva's head motifs show the influence of the Western China [Xi'yu]. Considering that Northern Qi had more active interactions with the three ancient kingdoms of Korea than with the Southern Kingdoms[Nanchao], the findings of this study call for further research on the correlation between the attire of ancient Korea and Northern Qi.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength between composite resin and glass ionomer cement according to surface treatment methods of glass ionomer cement. Sixty round acrylic cylinders were fabricated. And then, a round undercut cavity(8 mm diameter, 2.5mm depth) was prepared in the center of the every acrylic cylinder. After all cavities were restored by using light-cured glass ionomer cement. A total of sixty acrylic cylinders restored with glass ionomer cement were divided into 4 groups according to surface treatment methods of glass ionomer cement. The surface treatment of each group were as follows : control group : no treatment Group 1 : acid etching Group 2 : sandblasting Group 3 : air-podwer abrasive polishing The composite resin was bonded to glass ionomer cement of each specimens. And the shear bond strength was tested with a universal testing machine at a cross-head speed of 1mm/min and 500kg in full scale. The results were as follows : 1. The sandblasting group(group 2) had the highest shear bond strength with $272.50{\pm}24.96\;kg/cm_2$ and the acid etching group(group 1) had the lowest shear bond strength with $192.89{\pm}29.32kg/cm_2$. 2. The no treated group(control group) had higher shear bond strength than acid etching group(group 1) (p<0.05). 3. The sandblasting group(group 2), air-powder abrasive polishing group(group 3) and no treated group(control group) had higher shear bond strength than the acid etching group(group 1) (p<0.05). 4. The sandblasting group(group 2) and air-powder abrasive polishing group(group 3) had higher shear bond strength than the no treatment group(control group), but there was not significant(p>0.05).
