Objectives: The purpose of this study was to confirm the influence of commercially available carbonated water on denture resin by confirming the changes in the denture surface and adhesion of bacteria. Methods: Carbonated water available in the domestic market was used on specimens made of prosthetic resins. The top four products with respect to sales performance was deposited for 30 min, 24 h, and 48 h over the study groups and over one control group. The surface roughness was measured. Candida albicans was inoculated and cultured over these dentures at 37℃ on the study groups of 1 h, 24 h, and 48 h, and the number of colonies formed was measured. Results: As a result of comparing the surface roughness between groups by immersion time, the difference between groups was confirmed at 48 hours. The Trevi group showed a larger Rz than the Samdasoo group. As a result of comparing the surface roughness by time in each group, statistical significance was shown in the Ra value of the Seagram and the Rz value of the Chojung sparkling water (p<0.05). The Ra value of the Seagram was higher for 48 h than for 30 min, and the Rz value of the Chojung sparkling water was higher at 48 h than at 30 min (p<0.05). Candida albicans concentration increased over the course of immersion. Conclusions: It was confirmed that longer the specimen of the denture resin was immersed in carbonated water, more the surface roughness was affected and higher the number of attached bacteria.
This paper is to analyze the surface roughness in wet and dry surface grinding in which working conditions are table feed, cross feed and down feed. FFT analyzer is used to identify the surface roughness and the data of surface roughness are stored and displayed using an interfaced computer. In results, components affecting surface roughness exist within 200Hz with respect the conditions and methods of grinding operation. Also, with increase of table feed, cross feed and down feed, the value of surface roughness increases. Of them, cross feed has first influence on surface roughness. In dry, preciser surface can be obtained than one in wet.
In this study, we estimated, the equivalent roughness using an estimation model, which considered grain distribution on the bed and the protrusion height of the grains. We also reviewed the appropriateness of the estimated equivalent roughness at the Goksung and Gurey station in the Seomjin River. To review the appropriateness of this model, we presented the water level-discharge relation curve applying the equivalent roughness to the flow model and compared and reviewed it to observed data. Also, we compared and reviewed the observed data by estimating the Manning coefficient n, the Chezy coefficient C, and the Darcy-Weisbach friction coefficient f by the equivalent roughness. The calculation results of the RMSE showed within 5% error range in comparison with observed value. Therefore the estimated equivalent roughness values by the model could be proved appropriate.
This paper is concerned with the surface roughness and the bending strength of ground workpiece in ZrO2 ceramic grinding. Surface roughness was measured with surface tracer and bending strength value was obtained by three-point bending test on machining center using tool dynamometer. Grinding experiments were carried out to examine the effects of grinding conditions including diamond mesh size, table speed, and depth of cut on ground surface roughness. The correlation between surface roughness and bending strength was also inspected. The experimental results indicate that the rougher surface is produced as the mesh size of diamond wheel is reduced and table speed is increased, but surface roughness is not affected by depth of cut. The values of bending strength decrease as the values of Ra, Rmax and Ku increase.

As a general index in surface quality of machined products, surface roughness is to measure worker's skill level, a ground product quality and machining accuracy, etc. The surface roughness is defined by a function of rotational speed and radius of a grinding wheel, distances of active grains composed of the wheel, and feed of a grinder's worktable. To predict surface roughness in horizontal surface grinding operations, probability distributions were used. Probability distribution functions(p.d.f.) of surface roughness were found as results when the size of active grains(=the radius of a grinding wheel) is given as uniform, exponential distribution, and the distance between active grains follows the distributions of uniform, exponential. For each pdf case, probabilistic features of surface roughness were also analyzed and presented. This study is a substantial step for determining mathematically the surface roughness instead of using empirical approaches. More works should be presented to develop a general model by which an accurate roughness value can be obtained in horizontal surface grinding operations.
In this study, we study the change of surface roughness during cutting machining by changing the cutting conditions such as feed rate and spindle velocity with chromium molybdenum steel (SCM415) material and TiCN and TiAlN coated end mill tools. The surface roughness value of the test specimen for SCM415, was found to be 3,000 rpm in TiCN coated end mill and $0.634{\mu}m$ in surface roughness at a feed rate of 100 mm/min. In the TiAlN coated end mill, 300 mm/min, the surface roughness was the best at $0.699{\mu}m$. The overall average surface roughness of each coating tool was better than that of TiAlN.
The behavior of rock mass and solute(e.g. groundwater, radioactivity) flow in fractured rock can be directly influenced by joint roughness. The characteristics of joint roughness is also a main factor for the rock classification(e.g. RMR, Q system) which is usually used in tunnel design. Nevertheless, most of JRC estimation has been carried out only by the examination with the naked eye. This JRC estimation has a lack of objectivity because each investigator judges JRC by his subjective opinion. Therefore, it will be desirable that the assessment of JRC is performed by a numerical analysis which can give a quantitative value corresponding to the characteristics of a roughness curve. Meanwhile, roughness curves for joint surfaces which are observed in drill cores have been obtained only along linear profiles. Although roughness curves are measured in the same joint surface, they can frequently show diverse aspects in a standpoint of roughness characteristics. If roughness curves can be measured along the elliptical circumferences of joint surfaces from core scanning images or Televiewer images, they will certainly be more comprehensive than those measured along linear profiles for roughness characteristics of joint surfaces. This study is focus on dealing with (1) extracting automatically roughness curves from core scan image or Televiewer image, (2) improving the accuracy of quantitative assessment of JRC using fractal dimension concept.
The effects of temperature and initial crack length on the impact fracture behavior for the side plate material of FRP ship were investigated. And the effects of the counterpart roughness and sliding distance on the volumetric wear of same material were investigated as well. Impact fracture toughness of GF/PE composites displayed maximum value when the temperature of specimen is room temperature and $50^{\circ}C$, and with decreasing the temperature of specimen, impact fracture toughness decreased. Impact fracture energy of GF/EP composites decreased with increasing the initial crack length of specimen, and this value decreased rapidly when the temperature of specimen is lowest, $-25^{\circ}C$. It is believed that sensitivity of notch on impact fracture energy were increased with decreasing the temperature of specimen. With increasing the sliding distance, the transition sliding distance, which displayed different aspect on the friction coefficient and the volumetric wear loss, were found out. Counterpart roughness had a big influence on the wear rate at running in period, however the effect of counterpart roughness became smaller with sliding speed increase in. Volumetric wear loss were increased with increasing the applied load and the counterpart roughness.
