Effects of double packaging (combinational use of aerobic and vacuum conditions) and antioxidants on physicochemical properties in irradiated restructured chicken rolls were determined. Chicken breast treated with antioxidants (none, sesamol+a-tocopherol) was used to process restructured chicken breast rolls. The sliced rolls were vacuum, aerobic, or double packaged (vacuum for 7 d then aerobic for 3 d) and electron beam irradiated at 2.5 kGy. Color, 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), oxidation reduction potentials (ORP), and volatile profiles of the samples were determined at 0 and 10 d. Irradiation made restructured chicken rolls redder (p<0.05), and the increased redness was more distinct in irradiated vacuum-packaged than irradiated aerobic or double packaged meats. TBARS values of antioxidant-treated double packaged rolls were lower than even nonirradiated vacuum-packaged meat, and those were distinct at 10 d (p<0.05). ORP and lipid oxidation values were lower in irradiated vacuum and double packaged samples than those in irradiated aerobic packaged ones at 0 d (p<0.05). Irradiation of restructured chicken rolls increased the amount of total volatiles. Considerable amounts of off-odor volatiles were reduced or not detected by double packaging and antioxidant treatment at 10 d. Therefore, the combined use of antioxidants and double packaging would be useful to reduce redness and control the oxidative quality changes of irradiated restructured chicken rolls
During rolling, rolling mill rolls endure wear when shaping metal billets into a desired form, such as bars, plates, and shapes. Such wear affects the lifespan of the rolls and product quality. Therefore, in addition to rigidity, wear performance is a key factor influencing the performance of rolling mill rolls. Conventional methods such as casting and forging have been used to manufacture rolling mill rolls. However, powder alloying methods are increasingly being adopted to enhance wear resistance. These powder manufacturing methods include atomization, canning to shape the powder, hot isostatic pressing to combine the powder alloy with conventional metals, and various wear performance tests on rolls prepared with powder alloys. In this study, numerical simulations and experimental tests were used to develop and elucidate the wear analysis mechanism of rolling mill rolls. The wear characteristics of the rolls under various rolling conditions were analyzed. In addition, experimental tests (wear and surface analysis tests) and wear theory (Archard wear model) were used to evaluate wear. These tests were performed on two different materials in various powder states to evaluate the different aspects of wear resistance. In particular, this study identifies the factors influencing the wear behavior of rolling mill rolls and proposes an analytical approach based on the actual production of products. The developed wear analysis mechanism can serve the future development of rolls with high wear resistance using new materials. Moreover, it can be applied in the mechanical and wear performance testing of new products.
This research describes the measurement of roll parallelism by a laser interferometer. Parallelism among rolls is an important factor for improving the precision of printing devices. A laser interferometer, which is a device for the precise measurement of distance, can be utilized to measure parallelisms between rolls. To measure distance between two rolls by using a laser interferometer, the laser must not be severed during measurement. To achieve this condition, a linear motion guide was installed to each roll being measured, and continuous measurement of distance between two rolls was implemented by the simultaneous control of two mirrors installed on the guides. The method to measure parallelism between two rolls presented in this research can be utilized to improve printing precision by enhancing parallelism between rolls in printing devices.
The objective of this study was to assess the physicochemical characteristics of morning rolls containing various levels (0, 2, and 4%) of Makgeolli lees extract powder, which has nutritional and health effects. The results demonstrated that pH, moisture content, volume, weight, and baking loss rate of morning rolls were not significantly different among the groups. In the morning rolls with 4% Makgeolli lees extract powder, the Hunter's color 'a' (redness), but not L (lightness) or b (yellowness), was significantly higher than that in the other two groups. After estimating the texture quality of morning rolls, hardness, chewiness, and gumminess decreased significantly with added Makgeolli lees extract powder, but springiness was not significantly different. The results of the sensory test showed that appearance and texture increased as more Makgeolli lees extract powder was added, and that the overall acceptability score and air cell uniformity score for 2% and 4% Makgeolli lees extract powder morning rolls were significantly higher than those of controls. These results indicate that the texture and sensitivity of morning rolls can be increased by adding Makgeolli lees extract powder without affecting the overall quality.
Production of rolled steel has been growing partly supported by the advancement of rolls and rolling mills. Aiming at the further improvement in roll performance, various new techniques such as centrifugal casting, double poured casting cast steel, special build-up making, etc. have been introduced in the field of roll manufacture in these several years. The present paper describes the development of horizontal cast rolls(sleeve and indefinite chilled roll) made by Hyundai Steel and the results of mill tests. The developed roils are contributing the improvement of final products.
The aim of this paper is to investigate the spectral instability of roll waves bifurcating from an equilibrium in the 2-dimensional generalized Swift-Hohenberg equation. We characterize unstable Bloch wave vectors to prove that the rolls are spectrally unstable in the whole parameter region where the rolls exist, while they are Eckhaus stable in 1 dimension [13]. As compared to [18], showing that the stability of the rolls in the 2-dimensional Swift-Hohenberg equation without a quadratic nonlinearity is determined by Eckhaus and zigzag curves, our result says that the quadratic nonlinearity of the equation is the cause of such instability of the rolls.
Rollers and rolls in the continuous process systems are noes of key components that determine the quality of web products. The condition of rollers and rolls(ex. eccentricity wear) should be consistently monitored in order to maintain the process conditions (ex. tension, edge position) within a required specification. In this paper, a new diagnosis technique is suggested to detect the defect of rollers/rolls (ex. eccentricity, wear) based on frequency domain analysis of web tension signal. The kernel of this technique is to use the spectrum amplitude of tension signal which allows to identify the fault rollers/rolls and to also diagnose the degree of fault in corresponding rollers and rolls. The experimental results proved that the suggested diagnosis technique can be successfully used to identify the defect rollers and rolls as well as to diagnose the degree of the defect of those rollers. The suggested technique can be applied to monitor and diagnose the shape of rollers and rolls in various multi-span web transport systems.
Roll forming process is simulated with a commercial FEM code LS-DYNA. The rolls are treated as rigid bodies rotating with a constant angular velocity. The strip and the rolls are modeled with 4-node plate elements. It is assumed that the nodes along the front end of the strip move along paths given by sine functions. It is found that the analysis can be applied to the optimal design of forming rolls. With these analyses, it is expected that forming defects can be avoided and process development efforts can be reduced.
A macerating technique which can apply to the mechanical production system of the agricultural by-product was developed to increase the utilization of agricultural waste and solve the shortage problem in the forage supply for the livestock production. The macerating method is to shred the agricultural by-product by the two rolls which rotate at different speeds each other. The testing macerator was built and the optimum operating conditions are suggested. Results of this research are as follows: 1. The increase of the base roll speed and speed ratio between two rolls shows the better shredding index but decrease the drying rate. The optimum conditions of the base roll speed and the speed ratio between two rolls for the rice straw are 1200 rpm and 1.7-2.0 respectively. 2. The macerated alfalfa was dried to the 15%(w.b.) within 3 hrs in a field at speed ratio of rolls, 2:1 and base roll speed, 1800rpm. 3. The milled surface and straight knurled surface for the macerating roll have same effect on the drying rate of material. Both rolls have self-cleaning functions during operation.
In the steel marking industry, most companies have adapted the continuous casting process, due to its economical benefit. Casting rolls are utilized for frictional drive and the transport of solidifying slap. Dimensional tolerances, mechanical stability, and surface condition of the casting rolls can affect both the surface and the internal quality of the product being cast. To overcome these problems, the industry now is focused on accelerating the rate of technological improvements. This study has been undertaken for the development of casting rolls overlaid materials (SAW FCW wire), with the addition of Vanadium and Molybdenum to the martensitic stainless steel, in order to increase tensile strength and hardness at elevated temperatures.
