Rolling speed, roll gap, and cooling pattern in hot strip finishing mill process should be determined before inserting strip into roll. Such parameters are initially calculated by a mathematical set-up model. The technique to find adequate roll speed via a mathematical model has inherently limit because required working conditions are various and rolling process is nonlinear. To improve the accuracy of initial rolling speed for a finishing mill, this paper suggests a correction technology for initial rolling speed. The proposed method was implemented in hot strip mill process. As the results, the magnitude of width error in strip head-end part caused by excessive strip tension was decreased remarkably.

In this study the attitude control of the KOREASAT is investigated. The KOREASAT is a geostationary satellite and its 3 attitude angles, namely, roll, pitch and yaw angles, are stabilized by using the 3-axis stabilization technique. In the pitch control loop, the pitch attitude angle received from the earth sensor is processed in the attitude processing electronics by using PI type control logic, and the control command is sent to the momentum wheel assembly to generate the control torque by varying the wheel rate. The roll/yaw attitude control is performed by activating a magnetic torquer or by firing appropriate thrusters. The magnetic torquer interacts with the earth magnetic field to produce the control torque, and the thrusters are used to control the larger roll attitude errors. In this study dynamic modelling of the satellite is performed. And the earth sensor, the momentum wheel, and the magnetic torquer are mathematically modelled. The 3-axis attitude control logic is implemented to make the closed-loop system and simulations are carried out to verify the implemented control laws.
In this paper. the Joint reaction forces in the suspension system of a passenger car are determined to calculate the deflections and stresses in the damper strut. A mathematical model of the Roll Stabilizer Bar(RSB) is developed to include the RSB forces in the dynamics analysis. Using these RSB forces, the variations of the damper forces and spring forces due to the wheel strokes are determined in a McPherson strut suspension. The graphs of shear force diagram, bending moment diagram, bending stress and deflections are drawn by the calculated joint reaction forces.
The modern version of aircrafts is allowed to guarantee the superior handing qualities within the entire flight envelope by imposing the adequate stability and flying qualities on a target aircraft through the various techniques of flight control law design. Generally, the flight control law of the aircraft in service applies the various techniques of the verified control algorithm, such as dynamic inversion and eigenstructure assignment. The supersonic trainer employs the RSS(Relaxed Static Stability) concept in order to improve the aerodynamic performance in longitudinal axis and the longitudinal control laws employ the dynamic inversion with proportional-plus-integral control method. And, lateral-directional control laws employ the blended roll system of both beta-betadot feedback and simple roll rate feedback with proportional control method in order to guarantee aircraft stability. In this paper, the lateral-directional flight control law is designed by applying dynamic inversion control technique as a different method from the current supersonic trainer control technique, where the roll rate command system is designed at the lateral axis for the rapid response characteristics, and the sideslip command system is adopted at the directional axis for stability augmentation. The dynamic inversion of a simple 1st order model is applied. And this designed flight control law is confirmed to satisfy the requirement presented from the military specification. This study is expected to contribute to design the flight control law of KF-X(Korean Fighter eXperimental) which will proceed into the full-scale development in the near future.
This study aimed at validating the adopted numerical methods to solve two-phase flow around a two-dimensional (2D) rectangular floating structure in regular waves. A structure with a draft equal to one half of its height was hinged at the center of gravity and free to roll with waves that had the same period as the natural roll period of a rectangular barge. In order to simulate the 2D incompressible viscous two-phase flow in a wave tank with the rectangular barge, the present study used the volume of fluid (VOF) method based on the finite volume method with a standard turbulence model. In addition, the sliding mesh technique was used to handle the motion of the rectangular barge induced by the fluid-structure interaction. Consequently, the present results for the flow field and roll motion of the structure had good agreement with those of the relevant previous experiment.
The roll die forming (RDF) process is a new manufacturing technique for producing gear parts such as clutch drum and clutch hub in automotive transmission. In the RDF process, the material is deformed by a roll installed on a die set. Excellent productivity, low forming load and improved dimensional accuracy have quantitatively been shown to be the benefits of the RDF. In this study, the RDF process is applied to manufacture a clutch hub with a gear shaped part. A finite element (FE) analysis was performed in order to investigate the material strain field and dimension of the final product. Based on the result of the FE analysis, a RDF experiment was performed and the dimensional accuracy of the final product was validated. This work demonstrates that RDF is a process capable of producing a sound clutch hub.
In this paper, a finite element analysis technique of rolling stock models for collision-induced derailments was suggested using rolling contacts for wheel-rail interaction. The collision-induced derailments of rolling stock can be categorized into two patterns of wheel-climb and wheel-lift according to the friction direction between wheel flange and rail. The wheel-climb derailment types are classified as Climb-up, Climb/roll-over and Roll-over-C types, and the wheel-lift derailment types as Slip-up, Slip/roll-over and Roll-over-L types. To verify the rolling contact simulations for wheel-rail interaction, dynamic simulations of a single wheelset using Recurdyn of Functionbay and Ls-Dyna of LSTC were performed and compared for the 6-typical derailments. The collision-induced derailment simulation of the finite element model of KHST (Korean High Speed Train) was conducted and verified using the theoretical predictions of a simplified wheel-set model proposed for each derailment type.
We present a series of simple but novel nanopatterning methodologies inspired by traditional mechanical machining processes involving rolling, pullout, and forging. First, we introduce roll-to-roll nanopatterning, which adapts conventional rolling for continuous nanopatterning. Then, nano-inscribing and nano-channel lithography are demonstrated, whereby seamless nanogratings can be continuously pulled out, as in a pullout process. Finally, we discuss vibrational indentation micro- and nanopatterning. Similarly to the forging/indentation process, this technique employs high-frequency vertical vibration to indent periodic micro/nanogratings onto a horizontally fed substrate. We discuss the basic principles of each process, along with its advantages, disadvantages, and potential applications. Adopting mature and reliable traditional technologies for small-scale machining may allow continuous nanopatterning techniques to cope with scalable and low-cost nanomanufacturing in a more productive and trustworthy way.
Magnetometer calibration must be performed before the use of three-axis magnetometers to ensure the accuracy of orientation estimation. Recently, one of the most popular calibration approaches is the ellipsoid fitting technique due to its high performance in calibration. To date, in fact, performances of the existing ellipsoid fitting methods have been evaluated with full range rotation data. However, in case of the calibration of magnetometers attached to vehicles, ships, and planes, it is very difficult to collect the full range rotation data since their allowable ranges in terms of roll and pitch are limited to small. This constraint may result in serious performance degradation of some ellipsoid fitting algorithms. Therefore, to be practical, this paper proposes a weighted least square-based magnetometer calibration method that is robust in roll-pitch limited conditions. Furthermore, the proposed method is a linear approach and thus is free from the well-known initial value issue in nonlinear approaches. Experimental results show the superiority of the proposed method to other ellipsoid-fitting calibration methods.
The Roll-to-Roll system including continuous flexible thin materials and roller has its wide range of applications especially in the electronic printing industry. The industry is growing rapidly and the printing speed is also improving. However, the printing machine based on web and roller system has it own problem. As the web speed increases, the failure to wet the surface may occur and the air entrains between the liquid and the paper web. Air bubbles may remain attached to the paper web causing defects on product surface. With the development of image processing technique, the air airflow around the web and rolls can be visualized and calculated by PIV method. In our experiment, the simple web and rolls system is used to R2R simulator. The flow field is studied at various web speeds and positions. The result shows that the flow field has complicated structure with turbulent characteristic and the main trend of flow is obtained by taking time average of flow field.
