In general, the effect of roll motion is not considered in the study on maneuverability in calm water. However, for high-speed twin-screw ships such as the DTMB 5415, the coupling effects of roll and other motions should be considered. Therefore, in this study, the estimation of maneuverability using a 4-degree-of-freedom (DOF; surge, sway, roll, yaw) maneuvering mathematical group (MMG) model was conducted for the DTMB 5415, to improve the estimation accuracy of its maneuverability. Furthermore, a study on the change in turning performance according to the fin angle was conducted. To accurately calculate the lift and drag forces generated by the fins, it is necessary to consider the three-dimensional shape of the wing, submerged depth, and effect of interference with the hull. First, a maneuvering simulation model was developed based on the 4-DOF MMG mathematical model, and the lift force and moment generated by the side fins were considered as external force terms. By employing the CFD model, the lift and drag forces generated from the side fins during ship operation were calculated, and the results were adopted as the external force terms of the 4-DOF MMG mathematical model. A 35° turning simulation was conducted by altering the ship's speed and the angle of the side fins. Accordingly, it was confirmed that the MMG simulation model constructed with the lift force of the fins calculated through CFD can sufficiently estimate maneuverability. It was confirmed that the heel angle changes according to the fin angle during steady turning, and the turning performance changes accordingly. In addition, it was verified that the turning performance could be improved by increasing the heel angle in the outward turning direction using the side fin, and that the sway speed of the ship during turning can affect the turning performance. Hence, it is considered necessary to study the effect of the sway speed on the turning performance of a ship during turning.
This paper describes a robust model-based roll state estimator for application to the detection of impending vehicle rollover. The roll state estimator is based on a 2-D bicycle model and a roll model to estimate the maneuver-induced vehicle roll motion. The measurement signals are lateral acceleration, yaw rate, steering angle, and vehicle speed. Vehicle mass is adapted to obtain robust performance of the estimator. Computer simulation is conducted to evaluate the proposed roll state estimator by using a validated vehicle simulator. It is shown that the roll state estimator shows robust performance without exact vehicle mass information.
A conceptual design for the movable roll vane system is done for the roll stability control of KSLV-I. The control effectiveness of the roll vanes is estimated using the numerical simulation. The hinge location is selected to minimize the torque requirement at the maximum dynamic pressure condition, and the maximum torque of 3.0 kN-m is found to be required to actuate the roll vanes for the entire range of operation. An electro-mechanical actuator system which is composed of a DC motor, the speed reducers, the battery package and the controller is designed using the given requirements, the maximum torque of 3.0 kN-m, the maximum deflection angle of 25 deg. and the maximum angular velocity of 30 deg/sec. More detailed design to make more compact and highly efficient system will be done in the future.

Tilt and heading angles information of a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) are very important in underwater navigation. This paper presents a low.cost tilt and heading estimation system. Three single.axis rate gyros, a tri-axis accelerometer, and a tri-axis magnetometer are used. Output signals coming from these sensors are fused by two Kalman filters. The first Kalman filter is used to estimate roll and pitch angles and the other is for heading angle estimation. By using this method, we have obtained tilt (roll and pitch angles) and heading information which are reliable over long period of time. Results from experiments have shown the performance of the presented system.

When a camera installed on a vehicle is used, estimation of the camera pose including tilt, roll, and pan angle with respect to the world coordinate system is important to associate camera coordinates with world coordinates. Previous approaches using huge calibration patterns have the disadvantage that the calibration patterns are costly to make and install. And, previous approaches exploiting multiple vanishing points detected in a single image are not suitable for automotive applications as a scene where multiple vanishing points can be captured by a front camera is hard to find in our daily environment. This paper proposes a camera pose estimation method. It collects multiple images of lane markings while changing the horizontal angle with respect to the markings. One vanishing point, the cross point of the left and right lane marking, is detected in each image, and vanishing line is estimated based on the detected vanishing points. Finally, camera pose is estimated from the vanishing line. The proposed method is based on the fact that planar motion does not change the vanishing line of the plane and the normal vector of the plane can be estimated by the vanishing line. Experiments with large and small tilt and roll angle show that the proposed method outputs accurate estimation results respectively. It is verified by checking the lane markings are up right in the bird's eye view image when the pan angle is compensated.

Out of all types of motions the critical motions leading to capsize is roll. The dynamic amplification in case of roll motion may be large for ships as roll natural frequency generally falls within the frequency range of wave energy spectrum typical used for estimation of motion spectrum. Roll motion is highly non-linear in nature. Den are various representations of non-linear damping and restoring available in literature. In this paper an uncoupled non-linear roll equations with three representation of damping and cubic restoring term is solved using a perturbation technique. Damping moment representations are linear plus quadratic velocity damping, angle dependant damping and linear plus cubic velocity dependant damping. Numerical value of linear damping coefficient is almost same for all types but non-linear damping is different. Linear and non-linear damping coefficients are obtained form free roll decay tests. External rolling moment is assumed as deterministic with sinusoidal form. Maximum roll amplitude of non-linear roll equation with various representations of damping is calculated using analytical procedure and compared with experimental results, which are obtained form forced tests in regular waves by varying frequency with three wave heights. Experiments indicate influence of non-linearity at resonance frequency. Both experiment and analytical results indicates increase in maximum roll amplitude with wave slope at resonance. Analytical results are compared with experiment results which indicate maximum roll amplitude analytically obtained with angle dependent and cubic velocity damping are equal and difference from experiments with these damping are less compared to non-linear equation with quadratic velocity damping.

The tracked SUGVs(Small Unmanned Ground Vehicles) are frequently operated in the narrow slope such as stairs and trails. But due to the nature of the tracked vehicle which is steered using friction between the track and the ground and the limited field of view of driving cameras mounted on the lower position, it is not easy for SUGVs to trace narrow slopes. To properly trace inclined narrows, it is very important for SUGVs to keep it's heading direction to the slope. As a matter of factor, no roll value control of a SUGV can makes it's heading being located in the direction of the slope in general terrains. But, the problem is that we cannot directly control roll motion for SUGV. Instead we can control yaw motion. In this paper, a new slope driving method that enables the vehicle trace the narrow slopes with IMU sensor usually mounted in the SUGV is suggested which including an estimation technique of the desired yaw angle corresponding to zero roll angle. In addition, a fuzzy steering controller robust to changes in driving speed and the stair geometry is designed to simulate narrow slope driving with the suggested method. It is shown that the suggested method is quite effective through the simulation.
This paper deals with three dimensional orientation estimation algorithm for an attitude and heading reference system (AHRS) based on nine-axis inertial/magnetic sensor signals. In terms of the orientation estimation based on the use of a Kalman filter (KF), the quaternion is arguably the most popular orientation representation. However, one critical drawback in the quaternion representation is that undesirable magnetic disturbances affect not only yaw estimation but also roll and pitch estimations. In this paper, a sequential direction cosine matrix-based orientation KF for AHRS has been presented. The proposed algorithm uses two linear KFs, consisting of an attitude KF followed by a heading KF. In the latter, the direction of the local magnetic field vector is projected onto the heading axis of the inertial frame by considering the dip angle, which can be determined after the attitude KF. Owing to the sequential KF structure, the effects of even extreme magnetic disturbances are limited to the roll and pitch estimations, without any additional decoupling process. This overcomes an inherent issue in quaternion-based estimation algorithms. Validation test results show that the proposed method outperforms other comparison methods in terms of the yaw estimation accuracy during perturbations and in terms of the recovery speed.

This paper details the result of flight experiment that examines performance of roll angle estimation algorithm of slowly rolling munition taking time delay of measurement into account when measurement comes in delayed fashion. As the measurement is passed through low pass filter for numerical stabilization and de-noising purpose which induces time delay, we design augmented state Kalman filter that incorporates distribution models of stochastic delay over time. Flight experiment was conducted to verify the algorithm at around 250m high AGL(Above Ground Level) conveying velocity of 28m/s from fixed-wing mother plane to the munition. Munition was made spun with respect to its roll axis using internal reaction wheel afterward. Numerical comparison of proposing method's roll estimation performance with that of commercial aerospace graded GPS/INS shows that proposed filter design can effectively compensate time delay of measurement.

This paper introduces feedback linearization (FL) based adaptive sliding mode control (ASMC) effective against ground effects of the quadrotor UAV. The proposed control has the capability of estimation and effective rejection of those effects by adaptive mechanism, which resulting stable attitude and positioning of the quadrotor. As output variables of quadrotor, x-y-z position and yaw angle are chosen. Dynamic extension of the quadrotor dynamics is obtained for terms of roll and pitch control input to be appeared explicitly in x-y-z dynamics, and then linear feedback control including a ground effect is designed. A sliding mode control (SMC) is designed with a class of FL including higher derivative terms, sliding surfaces for which is designed as a class of integral type of resulting closed loop dynamics. The asymptotic stability of the overall system was assured, based on Lyapunov stability methods. It was evaluated through some simulation that attitude control capability is stable under excessive estimation error for unknown ground effect and initial attitude of roll, pitch, and yaw angle of $30^{\circ}$ in all. Effectiveness of the proposed method was shown for quadrotor system with ground effects.
